All children deserve to have friends. Friendship are an important part of life and a key to happiness. If you know a child who struggles socially then he, or she, would be a great candidate for the Where I can Be Me social skills program. It is the safe place where your child is guaranteed to have fun learning to make friends and maintain relationships — or I will give you all of your money back! It doesn’t matter if your child needs a little help or a lot, my unique placement process makes sure your child will be with peers who are a good match! You will never have to worry about child being grouped with children who are either too advanced or not advanced enough. This is important because chil-

dren learn from modeling the behavior of others. That is why I will carefully evaluate your child’s strengths and needs to make sure he (or she) gets to join a group of children who will help bring out his fullest potential. What’s more is that you can rest easy knowing that you are not risking a dime. If at any time before the start of your child’s 5th class, you decide you are not absolutely thrilled with the program I will give you all of your money back, without hassle — guaranteed. If this sounds like something that would benefit your child then I encourage you to request more free information now. You may do so by calling 914.243.11119, or be visiting www.WhereICanBeMe.com. Children enjoy hands-on fun at the Westchester Children’s Museum.

Museums

Many museums today are not hallowed halls of antiquity. They are vibrant, hands-on, interactive venues that can inspire, delight and amuse. Just don’t tell the kids they will be learning too! Westchester Children’s Museum Rye Playland, Rye. 421-5050. discoverWCM.org. It’s been a long time in the making, but Westchester County finally has its very own Children’s Museum. The first phase of the Westchester Children’s Museum has opened with 6,000 square feet of interactive hands-on exhibits. While construction continues on other parts of the Museum, vibrant and colorful galleries overlooking the Boardwalk and Long Island Sound have open their doors to visitors. Exhibits allow visitors to create a roller coaster, work with KEVA Planks, explore wind

tunnels and sand. There’s also a cozy, quiet area to enjoy books and share stories. Spaces for creating works of art or engineering inventions are scattered throughout the Museum. Learn more about the special Museum programs, such as Museum Minis, Drop-In Workshops and Museum Detectives by visiting the website. Stepping Stones Museum for Children 303 West Ave., Norwalk, Conn. 203-899-0606. steppingstonesmuseum.org. No parent will ever have to say, “don’t touch,” because this museum encourages hands-on exploration for all children ages 10 and under.

Special Needs Stepping Stones Museum for Children recognizes that children with special needs can benefit from dedicated time to explore the Museum at their own pace and interest. They created Accessibility Day, where families of children with special needs are admitted free from 9 to 11 a.m. on select Saturdays. Contact the Museum for details. You’ll find more than 100 hands-on activities plus family programs and special events. Be sure to see the landmark exhibit “Energy Lab.” Here kids learn all about science and energy in a wet and wild environment. There’s also fun learning about solar energy and the power of wind. The real draw is the water play table that appeals to kids of all ages. Infants and toddlers are often overlooked in the museum world, but not at Stepping Stones. Tot Town is a soft play space for infants and toddlers that has a gated entrance so no fast crawler can escape. Babies interact with toys, games, sounds and each other.

Camping

Westchester parks and nearby areas can accommodate campers in search of anything from comfortable cabins with all the amenities of home to sites where you can truly “rough it.” Either way, it’s an economical vacation and a great way to enjoy the outdoors. Roughing It Ward Pound Ridge Reservation Rtes. 35 and 121 South, Cross River. 864-7317. westchestergov.com/parks. With its rich history and wildlife preserves Ward Pound Ridge Reservation in Cross River is the largest park in Westchester County, boasting an ample 4,700 acres of wide-open terrain. Since RV and car camping are not permitted, this is the place to go if you seek a rustic camping experience. Reservations are necessary for overnight camping. The park offers Adirondack hard-walled leantos (a shelter with three walls), but you’ll want to pitch a tent for an overnight stay either within the lean-to or in the designated open campsites. Bathrooms are nearby, but there are no showers on site. Water spigots are available for drinking and washing your cookware and dinnerware at the campsite. Grills and fireplaces are located near the picnic tables. To keep the children occupied during the day, Ward Pound Ridge offers many activities. There

are more than 35 miles of hiking and nature trails, two streams, a wildflower garden and a Trailside Nature Museum with exhibits and American Indian artifacts. Maps, available at the Trailside Museum, are essential and use of a compass is recommended. Fishing is permitted in the Cross River with the required New York State fishing license. HELP YOUR CHILD STAY IN THE GAME THERE ARE MORE WAYS TO PLAY THAN EVER BEFORE – AND YOU CAN GET INVOLVED!

Junior Team Tennis

Junior Tournaments

Kids can get active, have fun and make friends by playing tennis on a team. Junior Team Tennis allows kids to enjoy the sport for a lifetime from the very first day of play. Parents, why don’t you help manage a team? No tennis experience is required and it’s a great way to share a positive experience with your child.

Advance your game by getting on the court, learning from the best and connecting with your friends. Competing in Junior Tournaments will help take your game as far as you want to go – high school, college or the pros.
