WOMEN’S SUFFRAGE MONUMENT Behind Cecil C Humphreys School of Law
This public memorial honors Shelby County leaders who participated in the nonviolent efforts to win the right to vote for American women. Tennessee is important to the movement, as it was the final state to ratify the 19th Amendment, with which women won the right to vote.

CENTRAL BARK DOG PARK 540 S. Main St.
Central Bark Dog Park is a pop-up dog park, located on a prominent corner in the South Main district. By elevating the use of this previously vacant 0.15acre parcel, the Downtown Memphis Commission was able to provide a desirable neighborhood asset – a very active community gathering space for dogs, dog-owners, and neighbors – and create a better overall pedestrian experience for residents and visitors.

SOUTH MAIN WINTER ACTIVATION October - February
Faced with an unexpected budget issue - what to do with event grant funds that couldn’t support events during COVID - the DMC worked with 26 propeties (and 14 property owners) to turn South Main into the the most beautiful block in the region. The installation recieved so much love (and positive press) in its first season that we have committed to make the light show an annual activation.
Stronger. Better. Faster. Smarter. Our future Downtown.
THE MOBILITY CENTER The Mobility Center is being built on a 1.3 acre parcel at Main & Beale, previously used as a surface parking lot. The building will be a concrete structure with aluminum paneling. It will be six stories with a seventh level parking deck. Ground floor parking will be partially screened by retail uses. The structure will be more than a parking garage, it will be a transportation hub for shared-transit and peoplepowered-mobility options. It will utilize smart parking technologies, EV charging stations, and will feature the city’s first public bike-parking facility.
GROOVE ON-DEMAND Groove On-Demand works like a minibus that comes when you want, where you want. Book a ride straight from your phone, get picked up in minutes, and access all of Downtown, the Medical District, South City, and New Chicago. Service hours: 6am-10pm – 7 days per week. Price: $1.25 per ride
Download the Groove On-Demand App Now! First 10 Rides are Free!!!
SMART CITY EFFORTS
The internet of things and smart tech can help improve lighting solutions and solve problems like “where should I park?”
Current vehicular traffic on Union Ave, derived from cell phone data
Smart Trash Cans being deployed in the Core district, Spring/Summer 2022.
TECH AS A TOOL: SMART DOWNTOWN Downtown Memhis is home to a growing residential population (currently 26K), a vibrant and growing workforce, thanks to employers like FedExLogistics planting their corporate flags in the CBID, and more than 4.5 million visitors this past year, alone. Our smart city efforts are focused on using technology to improve Downtown life. We will utilize cameras to improve safety, and help you find a parking space easier. We will take advantage of the internet of things to help us know when street lights are out and when trash cans need emptying. And free public wifi will improve access to information, while it provides insight into who is visiting our districts. Information that we can use to create a better Downtown experience for everyone.
