DP ARCHITECTS started as an architecture practice that made a conscious effort to create architecture of excellence that enriches the human experience and spirit. Today, DP exists as a group of companies that cover a spectrum of services, across a comprehensive global network comprising 1,300 professionals in 17 international offices and 8 associated specialist consultancies: DP CONSULTANTS, DP DESIGN, DP ENGINEERS, DP FACADE, DP GREEN, DP LIGHTING, DP SUSTAINABLE DESIGN, DP XPERIENCE. DP recognises the potential of specialisation within architecture and the need to hone specific skills as our practice becomes broader and more encompassing. Specialisation encourages early integration of services in our pursuit of a holistic design solution to meet the challenging demands of the world today. This integration is facilitated within the group of companies through a common design belief and methodology. The specialist services are based at the company’s headquarters in Singapore, and each performs as an internal resource for our 17 international offices. Our design work benefits from the close collaboration and synergy between the various disciplines to strengthen our delivery of fully coordinated, context-appropriate and innovative design solutions. With the diversified talents and capabilities, and an interdisciplinary approach, we provide clients with a large breadth of specialist knowledge in the fields of architecture and urban planning, project management consultancy, interior design, engineering, façade design and engineering, landscape architecture, lighting and visual planning, sustainable design, and environmental branding. An understanding of the needs of the people we are designing for is essential to create a built environment that is purposeful and liveable. This lies at the core of each and every one of DP’s design work. We believe in collective and concerted effort. Our ability to listen, to hear and to harness the strength of partnerships – with its people and project collaborators – is the reason for the firm’s growth and success over the last 50 years. We bring this synergetic spirit – teamwork with clients, consultants, contractors and fellow DPians – to every project that we undertake.

DESIGNING URBAN SPACES Guided by our founding philosophy to create architecture of excellence that uplifts the human spirit, DP Architects aims to create localised, delightful and meaningful spaces for present and future generations to enjoy. Our architecture is designed to last and benefit the human experience while fostering a strong sense of community and invigorating the local context. Since its first major foray into the realm of public architecture, DP Architects has been involved with urban projects of immense scale and an increasing diversity of function. The firm’s works are some of the largest of their type in the world – Singapore Sports Hub, the world’s largest hub ecosystem that bridges sports and the community, with venues to cater to world-class sporting events and everyday participation; The Dubai Mall at 550,000sqm is a ‘city within a city’; Resorts World Sentosa is a mixed-use complex in Singapore comprising a Universal Studios theme park, a marine life park, a maritime museum, a casino and six hotels; and a series of 16 retail projects along Singapore’s Orchard Road that redeveloped an entire shopping corridor. Like cities, these urban projects are massively complex systems. Sites of this scale take years to complete. Each involves monumental construction efforts and management undertakings, reshapes hundreds of thousands of square metres of ground space, demands close attention by scores of designers, and often engages millions of visitors over the period of its use.

This design ecosystem leverages on the power of ‘we’: the collective design experience and knowledge of DPians. This spirit of designFIRST crystallises into a foundational framework of four Ds – drivers, database, discourse and digitalisation.

Shanghai | Beijing | Guangzhou | Shenzhen China was a key market in DP Architects’ early overseas expansion. Taking advantage of the wave of optimism in the region in the 1980s, DP made its first foray into China. Qingdao Hotel (1983) and Yan Shan University (1984-1987) were among our first projects in China. Both are in full operation today despite the accelerated construction in China over the last decade. The mid-1990s saw the completion of a series of high-profile commissions including a prestigious office tower in Hong Kong Central, The Centrium. Today, DP is well-entrenched in the Chinese market with offices in Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Beijing. Despite the speed and scale at which urbanism is occurring in China, we continue to push out designs of excellent form and function across different typologies and varying scales. Attesting to this are Foshan Arena Centre, Wuhan Yulong Financial Centre, Nanjing Fu Ying Tower, Nanjing Software Park Chuan Yuan Tower, and Dalian Meilihui Mixed-development, and Beijing Lippo Plaza. Massive in scale, each features distinctive architecture and design that is thoughtful to people-space relation and user-experience. As a firm of creative professionals working in the fiercely competitive local market and designing for a rapidly changing urbanscape, the team is constantly recalibrating our tools and strategies from the outset of each project, specialising in concept and schematic design and design development. Our designers have acquired in-depth experience in master plans of vibrant and attractive commercial and business districts, as well as the design of large-scale residential and commercial complexes. Our design capability is further strengthened through DPA’s multidisciplinary approach and One Global Studio concept. Fully interconnected and supported by a comprehensive network of shared global experience, we tap into DPA’s unique design methodologies and extensive knowledge in typology research to deliver design excellence. To date, DPA China has collectively commissioned and completed more than 350 projects of different typologies throughout China. | 343

A professional consultancy managed by locally registered architects, DP Architects Sdn Bhd is based in Malaysia with offices in Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru. Like our Singapore-based parent company, DP Architects, we are also founded on a deep-rooted belief in design and service excellence. This spirit of excellence has been and remains paramount in our delivery process. Over four decades, DP Architects Sdn Bhd has consolidated our resources and developed consummate professionalism in providing holistic design solutions. Our dedicated and competent team is well-equipped to undertake projects of varying scales and complexities, and deliver projects in accordance with international quality standards. Beyond architectural design, we also play a key role as a consultant on planning and design issues across a diverse range of building typologies. At the core of our work, DP Architects also believes in building relationships. We recognise the importance of understanding the stakeholders’ corporate values and requirements. In return, the trust from stakeholders has been rewarding, as many are repeat clients. We have also expanded our portfolio of works to include design projects for retail shopping centres, hotels, work places, high-density residences, religious institutions, recreational and mixed-programme developments. | 351
