The formation’s goals All observations and current research show that humanity has reached a point in its history where it affects the planet and its ecosystems on a global scale. Our ability to precipitate irreversible and abrupt environmental change raises profound questions about the living conditions of our generation and its descendants.

The physical and human consequences of these profound environmental changes imply a complete reconsideration of the way we build architecture and our cities.

The dpea post-carbon architecture, energy and materials program hypothesizes that acquining better knowledge on the subjects of the physical and material aspects of a project would strongly benefit today’s architects.

Their essential contribution to solving environmental problems will be facilitated by learning new technical concepts that will complement their initial architectural training.

The specific skills of the architects, their ability to think and manipulate form, to organize relevant information from an eclectic corpus, and to articulate culture and technique, remain be the founding principles of this curriculum.

This program is prospective and exploratory. Its innovative approch combines architecture and technical thinking while teaching the practice of architecture in a way that articulates two forms of interrogation and practical application of knowledge: the quantitative and the qualitative.

This program combines the acquisition of theoretical and analytical tools, with the implementation to projects emanating from specific demands from the construction world. Each of them involve schools and external partners from the client.

Job opportunites After graduation, students go find a large device of opportunities to work for: architecture practices, consulting firms, non-governmental organizations, research laboratories, owners… both in France and abroad.

The alumni association (La Fabrique post-carbone) keeps on active network of former students and individually sponsors new students.

Organization and timetable The curriculum lasts three semesters (18 months).

Semester 1 and 2 The first two semesters take place at the School of Architecture and at the École des Ponts ParisTech. It starts with a month of intensive training meant to bring every student up to speed in sciences.

A first exercise allows the students to acquire the skills and reflexes necessary for a responsible transdisciplinary concept. From October on, practitioners, experts and researchers from both schools offer courses in three fields of expertise: . Materials and their transformations, . Construction techniques and structures, . Energy and the environment.

The courses are supplemented by seminars, studies, field trips as well as all the lectures take place on the Descartes campus. Two team research projects for emanating from core themes of the program take place during the year by corporate sponsors.

Semester 3 The curriculum includes five months of professional training in a firm or ngo. During this professional experience the student draws up a dissertation that he will then present to a jury of professors and professionnals in June.

Registration This program is meant for architects who already hold a diploma.

The tuition is 2 200 euros for three semesters .

Registration takes place throughout the year and ends July 10, 2017.
