ANNA (337-070) Living Space: 2,576 SF Sturdy brick trim, along with durable lap siding, project a sense of permanence to the 2,576 square foot Anna (337-070). This is a classic beauty that any growing family would be proud to call home. The handsome exterior is just a prelude to the highly functional interior design. A covered front porch, welcoming to your guests, will be a favorite spot to spend a summer evening. The long entry leads directly into a big family room brightened by multiple skylights.

Anna

To the left of the entry is a nice cozy living room. Here, with a substantial fireplace to keep things warm, entertaining friends in style will be effortless. Built-in shelves are over the fireplace with a wood box underneath. The isolated master suite has a spacious sleeping area and a secluded patio for privacy while enjoying the sun. The master suite also has a built-in entertainment center, huge walk-in closet and its own skylit bathroom equipped with a spa and twin basins. The walk-through kitchen is situated where the cooks in the household will admire the convenience. There are more skylights here, along with two eating bars and all the built-in appliances. The kitchen, for easy serving, is between the raised breakfast nook and the front dining room. The secondary bedrooms are both quite large, with a full bathroom between. These bedrooms have plenty of closet space and one or the other could easily be converted into guest accommodations, sewing room or den. An office, with private entrance, is located at the front of the Anna. It has built-in shelves and a closet, but still leaves enough room for a PC, chairs, cabinets, etc. A skylit utility room completes the main part of the floor plan. There is a big sink here and room for a freezer. The attached two-car garage is fitted with a liberal shop area. For extra storage, the Anna offers an additional 418 square feet of attic space.

6 style tips to prepare

Your home for the

Holiday

season

This luxurious cabin in the woods themed powder room designed by Anne Marie Design Studio weaves in holiday spirit through subtle, eclectic seasonal accessories and floral arrangements. The bathroom features tile and natural stone from The Tile Shop, including a Hampton Arabesque shaped marble wall mosaic, Legno Luce travertine stone wall with a texture resembling real wood grain, Royal Amber mix brushed chiseled small Versailles pattern marble floor and a Movila faux wood ceramic wall featured behind the toilet. Bored with the whirlwind of red and green decor that inundates every home during the holiday season? This year, more homeowners are thinking beyond the traditional when decorating for winter celebrations. Expert insight into the year’s top decor trends can help anyone create impressive, elegant holiday style with minimal effort.

“Red and green will always be classic, but when it comes to holiday decor, rules are meant to be broken,” says Kirsty Froelich, design director for The Tile Shop. “Anyone can use inventive color schemes, fun patterns and smart home updates to create spaces that embrace the essence of the season.” Froelich notes six top trends to keep in

1. Feel festive with florals An easy first step to bring your home into the holiday season is to add festive fresh or dry floral arrangements. Evergreens and poinsettias always convey the essence of the season, but blooms in hues of rich purple, crisp white and even funky fuchsia will add cheerful energy to any room. A small floral arrangement on a bathroom vanity, for example, adds warmth and color - a particularly nice touch if you’re hosting guests.

2. Beautify with backsplashes Tiling your backsplash is an easy update that instantly upgrades a kitchen or bar space, and serves as a great conversation starter for guests. Start this project in the fall so you have plenty of time to finish before the thick of the holidays. A backsplash also can be a relatively inexpensive project with a stunning impact.

3. Be merry with metallics To create a show-stopping visual effect, use metallics in details throughout your home. Chrome and nickel are hot, and there’s a current resurgence of brass and gold. If you have metal in your backsplash tiles, add a centerpiece in the same metal to tie the entire room together. Keep in mind that less is more. Thoughtful touches of holiday decor will have bigger visual impact than an overload of figurines and frills.

4. Get jolly with geometric patterns

The fireplace is often a focal point during any holiday. Designed by KTM Architect, this fireplace renovation has a neutral color palette that integrates seamlessly as holiday decor changes throughout the year. Seasonal embellishments like greenery, accessories and a stunning gold mirror complement beautifully crafted tile patterns to highlight the hearth and facade. Featured product from The Tile Shop includes Multi Smooth Rectified stones (mantel wall), Noir Listello and Noir Honed Travertine (mantel surround) and Capri Mosaic Inserto (floor).

From gift wrap to seasonal fabric, geometric patterns are on trend for the upcoming holiday. A gorgeous geometric tablecloth is the ideal backdrop for a big family feast. Geometric mosaic backsplashes, like the Penny Round Gloss White Porcelain Mosaic Tile, leave a lasting impression during the holiday season and into the new year. Finally, geometric wrapping paper in vivid colors like teal or chartreuse, make for an extra stylish tree.

5. Wow with window treatments Don’t overlook the potential of your windows when adding holiday pizzazz

to your home. By using fabrics that feature a festive theme or pattern, you can easily create temporary window treatments that bring a space together. Simply visit your local craft store, pick out a bolt of two of fabric that blends with your holiday aesthetic, and have the appropriate lengths cut. Then simply drape and enjoy.

6. Give your fireplace a facelift A fireplace is the quintessential gathering spot for friends and family during holiday celebrations. A sleek stone makeover will update any drab or dated fireplace into a stylish focal point in your home. Add extra ambiance with candles, flowers and other simple decor on the mantel to make the space feel special.

“There’s no better time to let your home shine than the holidays,” says Froelich. “Adding holiday greenery, a few metallic touches and whimsical window updates will make your home feel festive. Now’s the perfect time to get that tile project done that’s been on the back burner, so you can show off your hard work and the amazing new space to all visitors.” For more home design inspiration as you prep for this holiday season, view the 2015 Fall/Winter Design Book or visit one of The Tile Shop’s more than 100 showrooms.

Organize

room by room

While resolving to lose weight or quit smoking are popular New Year’s resolutions, many people decide the dawn of a new year is a great time to get organized.

Men and women who want to get organized can consult with a professional organizer or tackle the job on their own, potentially enlisting the help of others in the household.

The holiday season can interfere with one’s ability to stay organized. The arrival of new gifts, decorations decking the halls and overnight guests can make it seem like rooms have been turned upside down. But the end of the holiday season provides a great chance to sort through belongings and start organizing in earnest.

Step 1: Assess the damage. It can be difficult to get organized without first taking inventory of your home. Go through all of the rooms in the house and decide what your goals for each room are, jotting those goals down as you go. See if the rooms have more storage potential than you’re utilizing,

Step 2: Set up a sorting plan. Organizing may involve sorting through belongings and getting rid of things you no longer use. One of the easier ways to handle sorting is to purchase three different containers or make three different piles. The first one will hold items you will keep, the second includes items that can be sold or donated and the last will house items that you will discard or recycle. Separating belongings in this manner can help you stay on task and remove some of the stress from getting organized. Simply move the containers that are no longer needed from the room when you’re ready to organize the remaining belongings.

Step 3: Schedule your cleaning days. It may take a couple of sessions to get certain rooms clean, so plan ahead for that. For example, you may need a day to sort and toss items, another day to prep the room with organizational enhancements and yet another to put everything back. Separating tasks into manageable sessions will help you reach smaller goals that eventually add up to your larger goal of getting more organized. Plan project days when you can devote time with few, if any, distractions. You may want to ask a friend or family member to take care of your children or pets for a few hours while you are tackling your tasks. Organizing around the trash pickup schedule can help, too. This way discarded items are quickly out of sight and out of mind.

Step 5: Reward yourself. Every time you finish an organizational session or goal, treat yourself to something nice, such as a dinner out or a massage. Choose something relaxing that makes you happy.

Step 6: Repeat the process. When one room is organized, establish your plan for the next room. Once you see the success that comes from the first room, you can use that as motivation to do the others at your own pace.

Step 4: Prepare your day. Have all of your necessary equipment on hand in advance of Day 1. This eliminates having to go on the search for supplies, which can prove distracting. Make sure you are well rested and have eaten a hearty meal. Set an alarm for how long you want the organizational session to go. If you work until you reach the point of fatigue, you may not be inclined to finish on another day.
