Adventure in nature with your preschooler at West Point on the Eno Environmental Education Pavilion or Sandy Creek Park! We’ll read a nature-themed book, then take a walk on the wild side to find the nature right outside our door. Children must be accompanied by a parent, and of course, wear boots or sneakers that can get a little dirty! Please only register for one per week, as we are offering the same program at West Point on the Eno as at Sandy Creek Park. Parents must accompany children. Pre-registration is required. CAVING TRIP

Come scramble, slide and squeeze through warm eastern Tennessee caves on this day trip. Safety equipment will be provided. Participants will leave and return to Morreene Road Recreation Center, they will also need to wear clothing that can get muddy and a change of clothes. Please note this program is weather dependent. BOTANY BAR CRAWL

Join Durham Parks and Recreation and one of our local breweries or distilleries to learn how plants are used in the creation of adult beverages. We’ll venture outdoors for a lesson in the botany behind our favorite drinks before returning to the brewery or distillery for a tour and tasting highlighting the science behind the libations. LAKE MICHIE CLEAN-UP: PERSONAL MOTOR BOAT LAUNCH

Be a part of Creek Week and come out to Lake Michie with your own boat to help clean up trash found around and in the lake. Free admission will be provided for people who come out willing to pick up trash, come by anytime between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. Trash bags and pickers will be provided. We will pick up trash throughout the park while members from the Audubon Society will be present to help identify the birds and the ecosystem. Equipment, bags, pickers, and boats will be provided. SPRING EQUINOX SUNRISE HIKE

Celebrate the first day of spring by getting outdoors with DPR! We will hike at West Point on the Eno and enjoy a sunrise over the forest and river. STARLIGHT PADDLE

See a different side of Lake Michie with an evening Starlight Paddle. With its dark sky, Lake Michie offers excellent sky-watching opportunities, especially on the water. We will provide canoes and kayaks as a group to enjoy the beauty of the night sky over the lake. DPR Outdoor Recreation will provide the equipment; you bring weatherappropriate clothing and closed-toe shoes. Youth under 16 must be accompanied by a registered adult. SUNSET FAMILY PADDLE

Savor a sunset on Lake Michie with this Sunset Paddle. We will paddle canoes and kayaks after closing and enjoy the peaceful sunset over the lake. DPR Outdoor Recreation will provide the equipment; you bring weather-appropriate clothing and closed-toe shoes. Youth under 16 must be accompanied by a registered adult. FAMILY LAKE DAY: KAYAKING

This class is geared towards beginner paddlers to learn the basics of kayaking in a fun and safe environment. We will teach you basic water safety and strokes and feel free to stay after and paddle on your own in order to explore all that Lake Michie has to offer. BIRD ISLAND PADDLE TRIP

Join us for a trip to Bird Island along the NC/ SC coastline. We will paddle through the marsh and work our way out to the coast. Expert ornithologists from the Audubon Society will be there to help identify the diverse and beautiful birds found near the coast. After our paddle we will go out for a seafood dinner. The paddle will involve; paddling across the intercostal waterway, paddling against the tide, and paddling in windy conditions. Equipment and boats will be provided. Dress for the weather. Participants will leave and return to Morreene Road Recreation Center. Please note this program is weather dependent.
