PARK SPOTLIGHT
Durham Parks and Recreation has responded to the public’s request to better maintain City parks and trails. Money from the ½ penny for park and trail deferred maintenance, Durham Parks Foundation, as well as money from the capital project planning, have gone into repairs.
On Thursday, October 29, 2020, Durham Parks and Recreation broke ground on the Hoover Road Athletic Park, located at 632 North Hoover Road. The 25-acre athletic park is scheduled to be completed by November 2021 and will include: • Four natural grass, lighted fields • Ample parking with charging capability for E-Cars • A large picnic shelter • Playground and trails For more information on this construction project visit the Hoover Road Athletic Park General Services page. PUBLIC ART AT HOOVER ROAD ATHLETIC PARK
Hoover Road Athletic Park has funding for public art through the City's % for Public Art program. This program allows us to designate up to 1% of the total Capital budget to commission public art. The Request for Qualifications for Hoover Road will be released in late December early January. A selection committee will be formed to review artist applications and select a finalist. This committee will include representatives of the stakeholders of Hoover Road Park such as neighborhood representatives, park users, local businesses, as well as local artists. For more information about the City of Durham's Public Art program visit the Cultural & Public Art Program page.
