SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

Durham Parks and Recreation offers free, drop-in programming and activities Monday-Friday for all teens between the ages of 13 and 18 years old.

From gardening, video game tournaments, and indoor hockey to park clean-ups, crafts and job readiness, we are providing a place for the teens in our community to have fun, hang out, and be active!

Come participate in a variety of fun activities including billiards, foosball, darts, and board games.

Video Game Lounge

Do you think you’re the best gamer in Durham? Come put your skills to the test at W.D. Hill Recreation Center. We will have a different tournament each week to determine who is the best gamer. Games that will be featured are Madden and NBA 2K.

If you are interested in tapping into your creative side, we are offering various arts and crafts opportunities for mature adults, ages 55 and better. This month, we’ll focus on crocheting.

There are lots of things we can do when we “Get Together.” So this program is planned based on your interests and feedback. Anything from a checkers tournament, guest speaker or discussion group, to movie and popcorn. Your help in planning and leading is always welcomed, so “Lets Get Together!”

Dominoes

Dominoes for seniors is a very helpful way to help stimulate brain activity, since it requires focus, attention, concentration and the use of strategy techniques. Dominoes is a family of tile-based games played with gaming pieces commonly known as dominoes. So if you're interested, come out and fellowship and enjoy a game of dominoes!

Some people describe Chapel Hill as a “little slice of heaven.” Some describe it as where “Duke’s dreams go to die.” Mature Adults are invited to have lunch at a Chapel Hill restaurant. Participants will be notified of the venue and menu prior to the outing. Transportation to and from the restaurant will be provided and each participant will be responsible for his/her/their meal costs.

Raleigh is where it is sometimes a challenge to define what the state government is up to, what the State Fair is serving up, and if the Wolfpack is having an up or down season. Transportation to and from the restaurant will be provided and each participant will be responsible for his/her/their meal costs.

Nc State Fair

The entertainment, rides, food and fun -- it is fair time once again. Join us for Senior Day at the NC State Fair. There will be giveaways and all of the usual fair experiences! Fair admission (only) is free for ages 65+. All others must pay admission charge at gate. Admission does not include rides, exhibits, food, etc.

Southern Supreme Fruitcake Factory

We’ll tour the Southern Supreme Fruitcake Factory in Bear Creek, NC, and taste delicious fruitcake and a multitude of other holiday goodies! We’ve built in time for shopping and a leisurely lunch (not included in the price) on the way home. We will depart from Campus Hills Recreation Center. Please arrive by 8:45 a.m.
