President’s Message On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Markdale Agricultural Society, we send a HUGE “Thank You” to all the volunteers who help out and contribute in any way, big or small, to create a successful fall fair in Markdale. To our sponsors and area businesses who donate financially – we are forever grateful; your support has added to the longevity and success of our traditional event. Thank you to our exhibitors, without whom we would not have a great agricultural-based Fair. Our Society’s members work together, dedicating time all year-round to put together this small town fair. Then, within a few days, our directors and volunteers change an empty arena and fairgrounds into a showcase, featuring over 1,500 exhibits! They also create space for a silent auction and an entertainment area which will host an opening night variety event where local youth are given the chance to be an ambassador for the Markdale community. “Through the Kitchen Window” – isn’t this an inspired choice for a theme?! Some of us can look OUT a kitchen window to see calves tended by their 4-H owners and heavy and pleasure horses being prepared for the Fair. Others will see field crops and gardens being nurtured so that they grow, ripen and bear fruit/flowers/vegetables, then selected to vie for garnered Fair ribbons. A look IN those same windows will reveal Homecraft and Junior exhibits in their stages of production in the hope that the finished products will be rewarded with prizes. So, all the Markdale Fall Fair exhibits, each diverse from one to another, have a base in the heart of the home – the kitchen! Lastly, it is my privilege to follow a president who has always been a great role model – one who just happens to be my “Mom”, the first person to hold me up so that I could see “Through the Kitchen Window”.

Ruth Ann Hellyer President

Senior Ambassador’s Message Attending the Markdale Fall Fair has always been something that I looked forward to every year - watching the ambassador competition, viewing all the beautiful quilts, seeing the endless amount of crafts, enjoying the entertainment and watching all the livestock. The Markdale Fall Fair is a weekend that everyone in the family can enjoy. There are events for all ages and it is a great way to make lasting memories in our community. This past year, as our Fair’s Senior Ambassador for 2014/2015, I was able to experience the Fair in new and exciting ways – getting to hand out ribbons at all the events, getting my face painted with others attending the Fair, trying new food and spending the weekend with Ella, our Fair’s Junior Ambassador. Being an Ambassador goes beyond the Fair weekend. We get the pleasure of meeting other fair ambassadors at our District meetings and going to the OAAS annual convention as well as participating in the Ontario Miss Midwest Competition and the CNE’s Ambassador of the Fairs Competition. I would like to thank all the people who made my year as Markdale’s Senior Ambassador so special. I also thank the volunteers who work so hard to make the Fair such a great success. I would like to wish the ambassadors to come good luck. This experience has been one that I will never forget.

Christena Carney 2014/2015 Markdale Fall Fair Senior Ambassador

Junior Ambassador’s Message Every year I get excited about the upcoming Fall Fair and all the activities and events you can take in. Year after year I enjoy entering crafts, baking and vegetables from our garden in the Fair. I also enjoy viewing the cattle show, tractor pull and the Friday night Ambassador competition. Being chosen the 2014 /15 Junior Ambassador has been a lot of fun. I especially enjoyed handing out ribbons to all the competitors of the cattle, horse, pet and baby show. As Junior Ambassador I was also given the opportunity to attend the District meetings, where I got the chance to meet other Ambassadors from local Fairs. This year has held many good memories for me with Christena, Senior Ambassador, as we participated in the Markdale Santa Claus parade, took pictures at Hogg’s Falls, and played games at the district meetings. I would like to take this time to thank all the volunteers who work so hard to make the Fair a great event for all to attend. A special thank you to everyone who helped to make my year as the 2014-2015 Junior Ambassador a great year. I wish the next ambassadors for the Fair, good luck and all the best. Thank you again for this great opportunity,

Ella Fraser 2014/2015 Markdale Fall Fair Junior Ambassador
