Dear Friends, It is almost time to get back to normalcy for our school community, so I thank you from the bottom of my heart as you join us in our virtual effort for the Warrior Gala 2021---our 49th effort begun by Fr. Dickson and his team in order to secure the financial health of Walsh Jesuit. Father passed away last November 24, but I know so many of you will hold him in your hearts forever. In true Warrior spirit, we have adapted the name of our special event to honor those tribes who actually hold a pow wow as an important part of their indigenous culture. We are not trying to be politically correct or canceling a culture; we are respecting the sacred community moments of a people who have long been on the margins of American life. Please join me in adopting our new name for this great event. Our chairs and the in-house team have worked so hard to continue the tradition begun back in 1973 and have held to the standard and spirit of those who planned it before them. While we could not have predicted the global pandemic that began over a year ago, we have found ways to celebrate the WJ can-do attitude and been in person throughout this school year, all the while the team was working to find a way to raise mission-centered funds. I am so grateful to the Mohlenkamps (for a second year!) the Hardings, and the Zieglers for their dedication and creativity during the Zooms, calls, and for their joyful spirits---as we moved from a traditional dinner-auction to our second year of Plan B! Vice President for Advancement Patti Clair and Patti’s right hand fundraiser, Marion Drake, have added new team member BreeOnna Springer. Together they have supported the chair couples and brought us to this night, all while conducting our first-ever virtual Zone Parties and providing many other great surprises. Whether you are in Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Stow, Chicago, Seattle, or Honolulu, here’s to a fun night as we continue our streak of 49 Warrior Galas assisting the many families at Walsh Jesuit who are in need of financial assistance and supporting all of our outstanding programming! We thank the Ron Marhofer Auto Family as they return as title sponsor of the entire event and have donated a 2021 mid-engine torch red Chevy Corvette for the raffle that someone will win at the conclusion of our event tonight! We are also so grateful to current WJ parents Tim Burke and Kevin Sloan as they have committed KeyBank to be the “Live” Auction Sponsor tonight. We are so grateful to all our corporate sponsors, all of whom continued their support of Walsh Jesuit even as they experience continued financial uncertainty in their own businesses. Thank you for celebrating our great young Warriors who live the mission of the school each day and for your support from wherever you are. As alum John Kempel ‘69 said in his promotion video, “We are Warriors across the nation!” Thank you for joining us for Warrior Gala 49 as we again thank God for our many blessings and look forward to the BIG 5-0 back on campus in the newly renovated Romanini Family Dome next year! My deepest thanks for your generosity and especially your care for our mission during these challenging times. A.M.D.G. and GO WARRIORS!,
Karl Ertle President

TUITION ASSISTANCE AND SCHOLARSHIPS
THE ARRUPE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
EMMAUS SPONSOR A STUDENT PROGRAM
Pedro Arrupe was the 28th Superior General of the Jesuits following Vatican II and has been called the “second Ignatius.” He is known for his passion for social justice. Arrupe challenged Jesuit alumni to be “men for others,” which has become the hallmark for Jesuit schools across the globe.
The Emmaus Program is designed to help students who begin their journey at Walsh Jesuit in the greatest need of tuition assistance. Need is determined by family income and expenses, including Catholic school tuition. With this program, the journey through Walsh Jesuit is made possible through the combined efforts of the student, his or her family, the school and a tuition sponsor. The sponsor’s tuition commitment is generally a full or partial tuition.
Walsh Jesuit’s Arrupe Scholarship recognizes students who score 95 – 99 on the Walsh Jesuit admissions/ placement test. Recipients earn a scholarship between $3,000 - $5,000 annually and must maintain strong academic and behavioral standards to earn it each of their four years.
THE XAVIER SCHOLARS PROGRAM The Xavier Scholarship is available to students from ethnically diverse backgrounds. This unique program promotes academic excellence, fosters unity, and provides leadership and service opportunities. Students earn credits up to $3,000 as they serve and commit to growth in their spiritual and intellectual development. They are renewable each year and are contingent upon a student’s acceptable grades, service and behavior. 72
THE WARRIOR FUND The Warrior Fund is Walsh Jesuit’s annual campaign to support the school. Funds raised through the Warrior Fund help offset the difference between the actual cost to educate a student at Walsh Jesuit and our tuition. Gifts to the Warrior Fund benefit all students of Walsh Jesuit, and proceeds from the Warrior Gala go directly to the Warrior Fund.
FUND FOR TUITION ASSISTANCE Each year the Warrior Fund bridges the $2,540 tuition gap for all Walsh Jesuit students, and provides much needed tuition assistance to our families.
For more information regarding these scholarships, contact the Walsh Jesuit Advancement Office at advancement@walshjesuit.org
