Who do you want to
You’ve been asked where you want to go to school a hundred times. Drake University Housing
Suddenly, you have a little place to call your own— to call home. For the next year, this room will be your safe place to recharge, to create, to have movie nights with friends. It’s also where you’ll learn a lot of life lessons like doing your own laundry and budgeting your finances. With independence comes a mixture of challenge and excitement. It’s something you’ll share with new friends from across the hall and across different backgrounds.
To help you build your Bulldog community quickly, we use your first-year seminar schedule to place you in residence halls with familiar faces. When it comes to roommates, you can request to live with a fellow first-year you know, or we’ll find a roommate for you. You might spend hours with your new roomie binging your favorite shows. You might help one another study all night. You might argue over mini fridge space. You might become best friends. It’s all part of the journey.
Take a closer look at drake.edu/residencelife and see the residence halls firsthand when you come to visit.
Hungry for more?

STREET PAINTING
Finding yourself isn’t always some deep discovery. Sometimes you learn by letting loose. And Drake students love doing just that during Relays week. You can celebrate by taking in the track meet, swinging into a tent party, stopping by the student concert, cheering for your favorite pooch in the Beautiful Bulldog Contest, or tying up your laces for an all-ages mile run through the heart of downtown Des Moines.
But the No. 1 tradition? That’s the annual student street painting party. You’ll likely wear almost as much paint as the street, but that’s the fun of it!

You’ll see him at many University events, and you might even spot him getting his favorite puppachino at the campus Starbucks.
IT’S ALL IN THE NAME
Griff II is named after John L. Griffith, the organizer of the first Drake Relays in 1910. But the Relays aren’t the only tradition he started at the University. His beloved English bulldogs were the inspiration behind our mascot. Before Bulldogs, Drake teams were referred to as Ducklings, Drakes, Ganders, and Tigers … oh my!

John Dee Bright College DIFFERENTLY DO COLLEGE
If you’re interested in pursuing an associate degree, John Dee Bright College at Drake University is a pioneering path forward.
Bright College has rewritten the formula for the two-year associate degree. Unlike most two-year program experiences, Bright students participate in dynamic discussions on thoughtprovoking issues, gain hands-on experience in an energizing environment, and work with engaged classmates who support and push one another toward their passions and pursuits.
And with a consolidated schedule and enhanced financial aid, your education can fit into your life, not dominate it. Although the approach is different, the results are powerful: an education that can launch your career or serve as a springboard to a four-year bachelor’s degree from Drake.
