Selfies are so much a part of our life today that demand for dental work is steadily rising. We all want to look great for our snaps, but you don’t really need cosmetic surgery to take perfect selfies. Just read and follow the five simple tips below to ensure your selfies get more likes than you’ve ever thought possible.

Hold the camera slightly above and angle it down: this usually makes your face look its best. You’ve probably seen tons of party pics where groups of people are looking up at the camera, and those pictures are usually pretty good. If your arms aren’t long enough (which they aren’t for most of us), grab a selfie stick. Don’t like the idea of carrying one around? Buy a stick that folds up and pack it away. And remember: don’t go overboard. Any extra effort you put into making a great selfie should not be obvious. No duckfaces please! Experiment with tilting your head, smiling in different ways, and so on. Do it until you find a great natural look that won’t give away what it cost you.

The photo-in-a-photo trick is an easy way to get your travel pictures to stand out. You can take day and night photos, or black-and-white and color photos of the same location and combine them this way. Or bring along a photo from your previous visit to the same area and include it in today’s pic. A Fujifilm INSTAX Mini 70 camera has a selfie mode and is great for both group and individual travel. If your main camera is your iPhone’s, you can take, edit and print photos from your smartphone with Fujifilm's INSTAX Share app and use the wireless INSTAX Share Printer to instantly print your shots.

Did you know that there is a time of day that makes your skin look glowy, so photos turn out especially nice? It’s the time when the sun is near the horizon: sunset or sunrise hours, when the sky is a pretty golden pink color. This kind of lighting makes your face brighter and reduces shadows. If you are taking a selfie indoors, be sure to avoid fluorescent lights. It is the worst kind of lighting to take selfies in – they will look just awful.

Natural is better. Try not to edit your selfies too much. If you’ve followed the tips above, editing should not be really needed. If you do want to use a filter, don’t overdo it. Most people will easily tell when filters were applied to try to make a person look more beautiful. And one last point: aren’t you beautiful enough as is? After all, selfies are for showing who you are.

Instagram @annybakhireva With selfies being so popular, the market has seen a lot of various gadgets and props designed to make selfie-taking easier. You can use a USB fan to get a professional hair-blowing look, or a selfie remote to take snaps from as far as 10 meters away. Explore the options and try some of them to add some natural-looking special effects.

Remember that in the end it’s just a selfie. It shouldn’t add stress to your life. You probably won’t be able to get absolutely everyone to like your photos, regardless of how great your selfies turn out to be. We all know that what’s good in one person’s eyes may not be that good in another’s.

Selfies are truly a form of modern art. Put your creative cap on and have fun!
