PROJECT COORDINATOR (Deadline for application: 14 June 2013) The British Embassy in Rangoon is part of a world-wide network of 230 posts, representing British political, economic, visa and consular interests overseas. We are currently looking to recruit a Project Coordinator to serve as a key member of the Embassy’s Political / Information Section.
Main Purpose of the Job The Project Coordinator will help to run the British Embassy’s Grassroots Development Programme providing funding to local organizations for projects supporting priority areas such as promotion of human rights, democratic reform and sustainable political solutions to ongoing internal conflicts. This post offers a great opportunity to develop project administration and other skills in a diplomatic environment. Main Duties and Responsibilities • • • • • • •
Coordinate and provide assistance to the Embassy’s project funds, namely the Bilateral Programme Fund and Human Rights & Democracy Programme Fund, in order to achieve the Embassy’s core objectives. Identify and register project proposals and prepare recommendations for the Funding Committee. Provide administrative and budgetary support to the Bilateral Programme Fund and HRD Programme Fund in a timely, effective and efficient manner. Prepare the budget and update monthly expenditure reports for the Bilateral Programme Fund and HRD Programme Fund. Responsible for procurement and payment tasks such as setting up new supplier, raising purchase orders, liaising with the finance department for project payments. Participate and provide input in funding committee meetings. Liaise with implementers, coordinate visits, compile monitoring and evaluation reports and identify opportunities for publicity.

Develop positive working relations and strengthen network of contacts within the aid/donor community and civil society in order to collect, share and analyze information. Keep up-to-date contact information of INGOs, NGOs and CBOs funded by British Embassy/ Provide some administrative and ad hoc support to the Deputy Ambassador (Chair of the GDP committee) and wider Political Section, including the Projects Officer. Assist the Embassy’s information team in delivering wider objectives, including high profile visits.
Minimum Requirements • Experience in project management, including budget administration and reporting is desirable • Good financial skills, including familiarity with spreadsheets and budget management • Good judgment and analysis of project suitability • Good knowledge of Microsoft office applications, especially Excel and must also have strong typing skills • • • •
Fluency in English and Burmese, both oral and written Personal qualities such as organizing, problem solving skills and motivated with a sense of customer focus Good knowledge and understanding of LNGOs/CSOs and current political context in Burma Excellent team player who can work effectively with colleagues and in a team
