ight Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas, the country’s first indigenously designed, developed, and produced fighter jet achieved the Initial Operational Clearance (IOC) on 10 January 2011, when the Hon’ble Raksha Mantri, Shri AK Antony handed over a formal ‘Release to Service Certificate’ of Tejas aircraft to the Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal, PV Naik. Congratulating the Tejas team for their dedication and hard work, he stated that ‘a state-of-the-art indigenous combat aircraft would go a long way in enhancing national security and the Pride of the Nation towards building our own combat aircraft capability’. Speaking on the occasion, Dr VK Saraswat, SA to RM, DG DRDO, and Secretary, Defence R&D, who is also the Director General, ADA, stated, ‘It is a red letter day in the history of Aeronautics in the country’. The ‘Release to Service Certificate’ prepared by the Regional Centre for Military Airworthiness (Aircraft), an organisation under Centre for Military Airworthiness and Certification (CEMILAC), after thoroughly scrutinising the entire design, development, testing, and the results of flight tests of all the systems of Tejas over the last several months was handed over in a grand ceremony.
