The Putnam Gardens DREAM Update May 2014 School year DREAM ended with a successful trip to New York City on May 3rd and 4th. Summer DREAM begins the week of June 16th with half-day activities until the end of the school year. The first full week of Summer DREAM will occur the week of June 30th. DREAM Programming:  5/3 -5/4 (9 mentees, 6 mentors): The program’s hard work fundraising and planning all semester paid off. For their end of semester Culminating Experience, the program went on an overnight trip to New York City. The group left Cambridge early Saturday morning and returned Sunday evening. During their time in the city, the group visited Central Park, Ground Zero, and Times Square. The trip was a great success and all mentees and mentors thoroughly enjoyed it. Alumni Involvement:  Alumni Grant: As a follow-up to receiving the Alumni Grant that helped fund their trip to New York, the Putnam Gardens mentors will need to submit a report detailing their trip to the Alumni Council.  Alumni Welcome: At the last meeting of the semester, graduating seniors were formally welcomed into DREAM’s Alumni Network. Each was presented with an official DREAM Alumni t-shirt, personalized welcome card, and information on ways to stay involved after graduation. DREAM Office:  Summer Community Interns: The two Summer Community Interns this summer will be Sydney Durand and Sharldine Desire. Together with the support of the Program Staff, Sydney and Sharldine will be supporting all five communities and providing on-site activities and off-site trips for DREAM youth throughout the summer.  Summer DREAM trips: This summer looks promising with several trips to the New England Aquarium and the Boston Harbor Islands already locked down. DREAM is also excited to announce that we will be able to send 25 youth sailing on the Roseway from July 14th -18th. We are currently in the works of planning additional field trip opportunities.  Mentoring Night at Fenway Park: On Thursday, May 28th, 2014 a group of Northeastern matches, two mentees from Somerville Housing Authority, and two DREAM staff members attended the Mentoring Night at Fenway Park. These tickets were generously donated to DREAM via Mass Mentoring Partnership. Keep DREAMing! Katie Purcell Program Empowerment Director Mass Promise Fellow/Americorps Katie@dreamprogram.org
