SHA DREAM Update 1st Quarter Report 2013-2014 Program Year (September-November) The SHA DREAM Program began the Fall Semester with a bang. The youth were extremely excited to be reunited with their mentors after the summer break. DREAM Weekly programming: DREAM Programming happens every Friday afternoon that the Tufts’ mentors are on campus and in classes. • 09/20 (16 youth, 13 mentors): For the first DREAM Friday of the semester, the group programmed in the park across the street from Clarendon Hill. The older kids played capture the flag and the younger kids played games at the playground. • 09/27 (8 youth, 11 mentors): All of the youth participated in field games at the park across the street from Clarendon Hill. Games included capture the flag, wiffle ball, and tag. • 10/04 (14 youth, 11 mentors): Mentors and mentees broke into small groups. One group remained near the community and played games in the park. The other three groups went back to Tufts for programming. On campus activities included playing basketball in the Tufts fitness center, visiting the Crafts Center, eating snacks in the dining hall, and playing pool and ping-pong in the Campus Center. • 10/11 (15 youth, 13 mentors): Mentees were split into small groups again. Activities included a campus tour of Tufts, yard games in the park across from the community, and getting snacks in the Tower Café at Tufts. Teen matches did one on one programming. • 10/19 (15 youth, 13 mentors): The group held their make up culminating experience from the spring semester. Everyone traveled from the community to the Franklin Park Zoo for a funfilled day of seeing and learning about different types of animals. • 10/25 (8 youth, 12 mentors): Due to many youth leaving for weekend trips, this Friday had low mentee attendance. Because of this, instead of doing small groups, the mentors decided to keep the mentees as one big group and brought them all back to campus. They played football and other yard games on the campus fields. • 11/01 (13 youth, 12 mentors): The mentors divided the youth into three groups. One group watched a movie in the Tisch Library, one played wiffle ball on the field across from the community, and one played games in the playground across from the community. The teen mentees went with their mentors to do individual programming such as getting frozen yogurt and walking around Newbury Street in Boston. • 11/08 (10 youth, 9 mentors): The group did programming all together this Friday. The group returned to campus and played games in the Campus Center and then on the football field at Tufts.
