Northwoods DREAM Quarterly Report December 2012 – February 2013 Greetings from DREAM! As winter comes to a close, DREAM reflects on the past three months of snow, sleet, hail, and a great term of mentoring! Mentors were on break for the month of December, but January and February were full of adventure. Here is a summary of the happenings from this quarter.

Highlights from the quarter include: •

• •

Katie Gibson and Katie Tai assumed co-chair positions for Northwoods DREAM. Together “the Katies,” as they are affectionately known, led the program with organization, leadership, and dedication to DREAM. Seven new mentors were invited to the Northwoods program on February 13th. They shadowed more experienced mentors during the winter and will be officially matched during the spring term. Congratulations to mentee Keziah Jackson on her acceptance to Howard University and Lasell College! Northwoods mentoring pair Avalon and River was featured as the Mentoring Match Spotlight. The article can be viewed on DREAM’s website here: River and Avalon.

Fridays: • • •

There were no DREAM Fridays in December as mentors were on winter break. On December 1st youth gathered in the Northwoods Community Center to make holiday cards for their mentors. A DREAM staff member supervised the event. The three Dartmouth College Local Programs met on Friday, January 11th to prepare for the winter term. Mentors reviewed DREAM’s Boundaries and Guidelines, elected leadership positions, and welcomed new mentors! Mentoring pairs spent five Friday afternoons at Dartmouth College. One-on-one activities included visits to the Montshire Museum, baking cookies, Wall Ball, basketball, and karaoke.

Special Events for Children and Mentors: •

On February 2nd five teens and five mentors visited Camp DREAM for a day of games and competition at Winter Adventure Camp (WAC). Mentoring pairs met DREAM teens and mentors from seven other Local Programs in Vermont. Six youth and three mentors traveled to Camp DREAM for Winter Adventure Day on February 16th. Mentoring pairs played broomball, cross-country skied, and went sledding. Mentors invited DREAM youth and families to a Community Dinner on February 4th. The group played games, shared stories with parents, and ate a healthy vegetable and pasta dish. Homework Club was cancelled on February 27th due to a winter storm.
