Poultney DREAM Quarterly Report December 2012-February 2013 Greetings from DREAM! This quarter, mentors and mentees ended the fall semester on a high note and returned for the spring energized and ready for another great semester of DREAM. Mentors from Green Mountain College and mentees from the town of Poultney had a great quarter! Here is a summary of DREAM happenings from this winter.

Highlights from the quarter include:   

Beth Hobbs joined Kristen DeSantis as co-chair for the Poultney DREAM program. Welcome, Beth! Two mentors and three mentees attended Winter Adventure Day at Emerald Lake State Park. They enjoyed winter activities including sledding, broomball, and making fairy houses. The Poultney program welcomed 6 new mentees into the program!

Weekly Programming with Children:     

Mentors and mentees celebrated the final DREAM Wednesday of the fall semester by playing NERF capture-the-flag in Bogue Hall. The lack of snow moved DREAM indoors, where mentors and mentees played games and celebrated their first DREAM Wednesday of the spring semester. Mentors and mentees spent an afternoon indoors watching a movie. Mentors and youth made piñatas out of papier-mâché and balloons. Rain moved the group indoors, where they did arts and crafts and played games.

Special Events for Children and Mentors: 

Two mentors and three mentees attended Winter Adventure Day at Emerald Lake State Park. They enjoyed winter activities including sledding, broomball, and making fairy houses.

Capacity Building and Fundraising:  

DREAM mentors welcomed six new mentees from the town of Poultney to DREAM! DREAM’s 2012 Annual Appeal officially came to a close at the end of February. This year’s appeal raised more than $100k from 210 donors!

Mentor Training and Workshops: 

Mentors held a discussion about behavior management techniques to use with their mentees.

Camp:  

DREAM staff members were busy this quarter preparing, collecting forms, and talking to families about Winter Adventure Camp (WAC), which took place over several weekends in February. Three Camp Work Days occurred in December and January. DREAM staff and volunteers prepared for WAC by moving hay, setting up tarps, and building a warm space (nicknamed the Zombie Apocalypse Shack) at Camp DREAM.
