Franklin Square DREAM Quarterly Report April 2013 - June 2013 Greetings from DREAM! This spring held a lot of exciting events for Franklin Square DREAM mentors and youth including their culminating experience to Petra Cliffs, the Teen Identity Retreat, and the start of summer DREAM programs. Please read below for more information about events and highlights for Franklin Square DREAM this quarter.

Highlights from the quarter include: • • •

DREAM teens attended the Teen Identity Retreat hosted by the Vermont DREAM staff. Teens explored Church Street, discussed healthy relationships, and practices hula hooping. 12 Franklin Square mentors and one teen were welcomed into DREAM’s Alumni Organization at the end of the semester. Congratulations are in order for Maura Pitluck, Lauren Barone, and Rebecca Bessette who will join Emily Sundstrom as co-chairs for the fall semester. A special thank you goes to Elizabeth Watts, Molly Spillane, and Charlotte Gavell for their wonderful work as co-chairs this past semester Mentors and mentees had a great time during their year-end culminating experience to Petra Cliffs. After a day of climbing, mentors and youth returned to the Franklin Square community for a dinner with DREAM families. th Summer DREAM activities officially began on June 25 . One Franklin Square teen attended Camp DREAM’s teen session from June 25-28.

Mentors and mentees enjoyed an afternoon of ice-skating at Leddy Arena. The Franklin Square DREAM program made blankets to donate to local hospitals through the charity Brady’s Blankets. th Mentors and mentees spent April19 at St. Michael’s College’s mentoring day. The MOVE Office sponsored bounce houses and food for all of the mentoring programs on campus. For the final Friday of the year, Franklin Square mentors hosted a barbecue on campus to honor the graduating seniors. For the month of May, there were no regular DREAM events as summer interns planned and prepared for the summer. th June 20 marked the launch of summer programs in the Franklin Square community. Summer interns introduced themselves to the youth they will be working with and surveyed kids to find out what activities they would like to do this summer. Youth made tie-dye shirts, played kickball, and visited the North End Farmers’ Market. Franklin Square DREAMers made posters and baked goods for a bake sale. Two groups of children visited North Beach for a day of fun in the sun. A group of DREAM youth attended the launch of the Burlington Public Library’s summer program. Franklin Square kids enjoyed making friendship bracelets and magazine animals.
