Willowbrook DREAM Quarterly Report June-August 2013 Greetings from DREAM! Summer brought warm weather and plenty of DREAMing this quarter. Youth participated in activities in their community, trips to nearby attractions, and sessions at Camp DREAM. They are sad for summer to end, but excited for the mentors to return in the fall. Here is a summary of Willowbrook DREAM happenings from the summer: Highlights from the quarter include:  Four Willowbrook youth attended sessions at Camp DREAM, where they swam, gardened, played games, and met new friends from other Local Programs!  Two Willowbrook teens attended the Time of Wonder sailing trip in Maine.  The Willowbrook Local Program celebrated the end of summer with an afternoon of group games, snacks, and crafts. Weekly Activities with Youth:  DREAM youth had an ice cream party to celebrate the start of summer. During the party, youth brainstormed ideas for summer activities.  Youth played group games in the community center.  DREAM youth learned about insulation during an experiment to see who could keep an ice cube from melting the longest.  DREAMers took two trips to Willow Park, where Summer Community Intern Britaney challenged them to travel around the whole playground structure without touching the mulch below.  Willowbrook youth enjoyed several trips to the pool at the Bennington Recreation Center.  Youth cooled off with a trip to the Dairy Bar to get ice cream.  DREAMers ate breakfast together.  Willowbrook youth made salsa together and played group games.  Five Willowbrook youth spent an afternoon baking delicious cookies and brownies.  The group enjoyed splashing around and swimming at Lake Paran.  The garden interns at Bennington College’s Purple Carrot Farm led a day of planting seeds, learning about the garden, and picking some beans.  Craft Day was a hit with a group of Willowbrook youth, who painted with watercolors, learned to make lanyards, and tie-dyed t-shirts!
