Riverside DREAM Monthly Snapshot March and April 2012 Program Happenings and Highlights Mentors and mentees enjoyed a culminating adventure to VINS (Vermont Institute of Natural Science) and the Ben & Jerry’s factory in Waterbury. VINS was a wonderful and educational experience for the DREAMers, who learned about ‘Raptors’-birds of prey, and got to meet a few feathery new friends. Riverside mentors & mentees held several bake sales during the kids school break on campus, raising nearly $200 for the program! A crew of Riverside mentee’s starred in their elementary school production of Willy Wonka, and were duly embarrassed by the enthusiastic support of a large group of proud mentors! The production was a huge success. We’re expecting a call from Broadway any day now! The DREAM office put on our annual Teen Retreat, inviting teens from all Vermont DREAM Programs to the King Street Youth Center for a weekend of educational workshops, and, of course, plenty of fun! Teens attended workshops on appropriate use of social media, financial responsibility, and leadership styles. Additionally, a DREAM teen worked with an office staffer to help lead a fun and interactive workshop on finding your passion!

Weekly Programming with Children There’s nothing like a game of Capture the Flag to celebrate the coming of Spring, and Riverside DREAMers enjoyed one such game during a Friday early in March! Luckily, the advent of Spring doesn’t take away from fun winter time activities like ice skating! Riverside took over a local rink one Friday, and several mentee’s were excited to teach their mentors how to skate. DREAMer’s spent one Friday tie dying on campus at UVM.

Riverside mentors coordinated with the UVM soccer team to provide an exciting Saturday afternoon field day for their energetic mentees! DREAMer’s spent one Friday hiking Mount Philo. The group enjoyed an end of semester potluck at Riverside with mentors, mentees, and families!
