Elm Street DREAM Monthly Snapshot July 2014 Program Happenings and Highlights • •

On June 30th, Elm Street youth attended Camp DREAM’s Teen Session. Kylie Edwards, the Elm Street Program Coordinator, worked with Summer VISTAs to strengthen already great summer programming. She also organized many activities of her own! DREAM’s College Road Trip took a group of Vermont teens to New York City, where they toured colleges, navigated the Metro, and took lots of great pictures! DREAM thanked Julia Dillavou, Laura Burnham, and Vanessa Sproates-Horl for a summer of great programming at their End of Service Celebration on August 1st.

Weekly Programming with Children • Elm Street youth participated in Face Time at the Winooski O’Brien Center. • Mentees hiked up Mount Philo, where they saw a great view of Vermont! • Summer VISTAs organized a teen girls’ night at Elm Street, where they watched a movie, • • • • • • • • • • •
made bracelets, and ate popcorn. Mentees went on multiple swimming excursions to the swimming pool and beach. Mentees made DREAM Tibetan flags. Teen DREAMers attended Taco Tuesday for a day of alliteration. A Winooski rapper from A2VT taught mentees how to write and perform rap. Summer VISTAs took mentees to Summervale. Mentees spent a day baking cookies, making paper crafts, and offering up random acts of kindness on Church Street. Summer VISTAs facilitated a “Sensational Science” presentation, followed by a trip to the Echo Center. Mentees played multiple games of basketball with Summer VISTAs. Mentees participated in yoga on the green, followed by a chicken dinner. Elm Street mentees made hand art, visited Adam’s Berry Farm, participated in Kylie’s Snapchat Challenge, and visited the Summervale—all in one day! Elm Street and Birchwood mentees joined together for a Burlingtion-area bus scavenger hunt.

Kylie organized grilling and games at Battery Park. Mentees spent a full day visiting Sterling Pond. Elm Street youth made henna hand designs and organized a waterballoon war. Teens went to Oakledge for outdoor cooking, games, adventures, and sunset viewing. Summer VISTAs took mentees to Sandbar State Park, followed by a teen Church Street walk. Elm Street enjoyed a culminating day of water games, food, fun, and celebration.
