Program –DREAM Quarterly Report Quarter 1 September – November 2016 Greetings from DREAM! The Pine Meadow/Peter Coe DREAM program has finished up another wonderful semester of activities. Here is a summary of all the Pine Meadow/Peter Coe DREAM happenings from the last quarter.
Highlights from the quarter include:
This month DREAM held DREAMstock, our annual mentor conference for DREAM mentors from across the state. Mentors came together and learned about behavior management techniques, addressing racism in their programs, fundraising, learned from a DREAM teen Q&A panel, and more! DREAMers recruited new mentors and mentees this quarter!
Weekly Programming:
This quarter the DREAMers celebrated the return of the mentors with a pizza party in the community. One Friday in September the group went to Lake Dunmore, where they had s’mores, played games, and explored the local trails! One Friday the group went apple picking at Happy Valley Orchard. In addition to the apple picking, they also drank apple cider, ate cider donuts, and played in the treehouse! DREAMers had a blast playing laser tag and bouncing around in the bounce castles at Whirlies World one October Friday! One Friday the DREAMers enjoyed a movie on campus. The group celebrated Halloween with a Halloween party on campus that involved lots of games and treats! DREAMers enjoyed working on some tie-dye and arts and crafts one Friday! The group went to Vermont Sun to use the pool. The mentors and mentees loved it, especially with the waterslide! One Friday the DREAMers went to the Middlebury College gym for kickball and other active games.
Special Events for Children and Mentors:
DREAM hosted its annual mentor conference, DREAMstock. Mentors from Poultney, Bennington, and Rutland got together for a Southern DREAMstock. Mentors from Champlain, Saint Michael’s, UVM, Johnson State, and Middlebury got together for a Northern DREAM Stock. This year mentors were able to collaborate with each other to learn about other programs and brainstorm new ideas. Mentors were also trained in a number of areas thanks to outside presenters.
