Program –DREAM Quarterly Report Quarter 1 October – December 2016
Greetings from DREAM! The Riverside DREAM program has finished up another wonderful semester of activities. Here is a summary of all the Riverside DREAM happenings from the last quarter.
Highlights from the quarter include:
Mentors have continued to implement successful teen programming on Wednesday nights! Mentors from all of the northern programs gathered for DREAMstock, our annual mentor conference. They attended sessions on behavior management, race and racism, and nurturing healthy sexual development. Three teen mentees also did a panel on teen engagement. Riverside mentors joined forces with a UVM business class and held a benefit concert for DREAM! Mentors left for their winter break but can’t wait to start DREAM again in January!
Weekly Programming:
Mentors and mentees had fun playing games in the community. The group had a blast apple picking at Shelburne Orchards! Mentors and mentees painted pumpkins in the community. They were joined by Kevin Veller, a representative from Congressman Welch’s office. To celebrate Halloween, mentors planned a scavenger hunt at UVM for their mentees. The mentors held a Thanksgiving potluck in the community for their mentees! Mentors visited the community and did one-on-one activities with their mentees. The group went bowling at Champlain Lanes! Mentors and mentees enjoyed a winter carnival for their last Friday of the semester. Teen programming this quarter included bowling, a pasta dinner, and homework help at UVM.
Special Events for Children and Mentors:
DREAM hosted its annual mentor conference, DREAMstock. Mentors from Poultney, Bennington, and Rutland got together for a Southern DREAMstock. Mentors from Champlain, Saint Michael’s, UVM, Johnson State, and Middlebury got together for a Northern DREAM Stock. This year mentors were able to collaborate with each other to learn about other programs and brainstorm new ideas. Mentors were also trained in a number of areas thanks to outside presenters.
