Program –DREAM Quarterly Report Quarter 1 September – November 2016

Greetings from DREAM! The Salmon Run DREAM program has finished up another wonderful semester of activities. Here is a summary of all the Salmon Run DREAM happenings from the last quarter.

Highlights from the quarter include:  School year DREAM started this quarter! Mentors and mentees were excited to be reunited!  Salmon Run mentors joined forces with Elm Street and Riverside for a joint recruitment push. They held several info sessions and a joint DREAM Friday where new recruits could meet the mentees from each of the three communities. Salmon Run has recruited 10 new mentors, doubling their program!  Mentors and mentees began planning a High Adventure trip to Boston for the spring!  Several Salmon Run mentors volunteered at the Ben & Jerry’s Factory in Waterbury, VT during peak weekends. Not only did they receive pints for their service, but also funds for their program!  Mentors from all of the northern programs gathered for DREAMstock, our annual mentor conference. They attended sessions on behavior management, race and racism, and nurturing healthy sexual development. Three teen mentees also did a panel on teen engagement. Weekly Programming:  Mentors kicked off the semester with a field day in the community!  Salmon Run, Elm Street, and Riverside gathered at North Beach for a fun afternoon of      

games. New mentors were able to meet the kids and choose which program they wanted to join. Mentors and mentees participated in a fundraiser at UVM to raise money for their upcoming trip to Boston. After the fundraiser they played games on campus. The group had a blast apple picking! Mentors planned a scavenger hunt for mentees on Church Street. The group was joined by Katarina Lisaius from Senator Sanders office. The group went rock climbing at Petra Cliffs! Everyone got together for a fun Halloween Party at UVM. Mentors and mentees played games, painted pumpkins, and ate lots of yummy food! Salmon Run mentors and mentees gathered at our newest community, Winchester Place, to help them put on their first ever DREAM Friday! They enjoyed a hot chocolate bar and games in the community!
