The Orchard Gardens DREAM Update June 2012 DREAM Summer Programming: Mentoring Night at Fenway: On June 7th four matches attended Mass Mentor’s Mentoring Night at Fenway Park. They had a great time at the ball game. Summer Programming: The Summer Community Interns started on June 11th and after a week of orientation began programming the week of June 18th. Turn out has been good and we are excited for a great summer of on-site activities and off-site adventures. Community Collaboration: The Record Co.: On June 1st Suzeth Dunn, Orchard Gardens Director of Resident Services, and I took a group of teenage boys to the Record Co. on Mass Ave. for an introduction to the recording equipment to prepare for their week long session in July. New Management Meeting: I attended the meeting on June 18th to meet the Trinity Management team that will be taking over the management of Orchard Gardens at the end of the month. It was amazing to see so many residents present. Orchard Gardens Safety Meeting: Jasmine Little, Orchard Gardens DREAM Summer Community Intern, and I attended the Orchard Gardens safety meeting at 25 Ambrose St. on the 4th floor on June 18th. Dudley/Roxbury Corridor Safety Task Force: Rachel Lieberman and I attended the Dudley/Roxbury Corridor Safety Task Force meeting on June 21st community room in the B-2 Police Station. DREAM Office: New Regional Director: Rachel Lieberman, the new Regional Director of the Boston DREAM office, officially started this month. Massachusetts Promise Fellow Hiring: We continued interviewing applicants for the Program Empowerment Fellow position that will start in August. Additional Summer Opportunities: In addition to programming run by the Summer Community Interns, DREAM partners with other organizations to offer additional programming opportunities to youth. This summer we will be inviting three Orchard Gardens youth to participate in City to Saddle, a weeklong horseback riding day camp at Liberty Hill Farm in Lancaster, MA. Additionally mentees in the school year DREAM program ages 13 and older will be invited to attend a Time of Wonder Sailing trip, where youth will travel out of the Boston Harbor for a three night sailing trip on a 60ft sail boat.
