Club tour of the Royal Botanic Gardens on Sunday 9 January 2022
On a pleasant and mild summer Sunday morning members of our club along with family and friends met at the Visitor’s Centre of the Royal Botanic Gardens for a two hour guided tour in the very capable hands of Nada Stojkovic, a volunteer guide at the gardens. Nada, who is a trained horticulturalist, spoke to our club in 2021 via Zoom during our lockdown so it was a real pleasure to actually meet her in person in a place that she clearly loves and of which she has a remarkable depth of knowledge.
We had planned this visit for some time and thanks to some great organising by Russell Stuckey we were able to make it happen. Nada took us for a circuit of the gardens and pointed out some significant species, their characteristics and history, the range of microclimates and the historical background to the gardens. Some of the highlights of the walk were the Perennial Border, the Children’s Garden, the Temple of the Winds, Fern Gully, the Gondwana pines, Guilfoyle’s Volcano, the Lakes, the pre European landscape and the Cactus Garden. The Botanic Gardens are truly one of Melbourne’s great gems and, given the times, a wonderful place for a safe and restorative outing in a range of stunning landscapes. Our thanks go to our excellent guide Nada, to Russell for organising the walk and to Emma for setting up the TryBooking link. It was a really delightful way to start 2022!

Our Guest Speakers
Moreland Rotary Club invites speakers to our club both from our local community and further afield. They come from a wide range of backgrounds and are invited because they hopefully inform and stimulate our members and guests. We feel that this is of value in fostering a deeper understanding of our diverse community and even providing guidance as to the types of activites and projects our club may engage in. However the opinions expressed by our speakers do not necessarily reflect any official viewpoint of Moreland Rotary nor those of individual club members. Irrespective of this we always offer a warm Rotary welcome to all of our speakers.
