Every weight loss plan I’ve ever been on has you drinking tons of water. How much water should I actually be drinking? Most of the current research shows that you should build up to drinking about one half your body’s weight in ounces of water each day. So if you weigh 200 pounds, you should drink approximately 100 ounces of water per day. Start out approximately one third of your weight in ounces and work your way up over the course of 2 to 3 weeks. Water that is run through an alkalyzing water machine is best. It absorbs through the cellular membrane 6 times faster than bottled water. You will also increase cellular absorption by increasing your consumption of trace minerals. If you don’t have sufficient trace minerals in your body, you simply spend half the day drinking a bunch of water and the other half of the day flushing it down the toilet. I like the liquid trace minerals. The brand “Concentrace” can be purchased very inexpensively off of amazon.com. I’m going through menopause. I think this is the main culprit causing my weight gain. What can I do to naturally restore healthy hormone levels? The building blocks that your body uses to manufacture hormones are fats. Not all fats are created equal. Do not eat fats like vegetable oil, peanut oil, canola oil, margarine or other chemically altered fat. Choose fats like coconut oil, real butter or olive oil. Also animal fats from healthy sources as well as foods that contain high levels of Omega-3 like fish are also very good sources of healthy fat. Limit your caffeine to one or two cups in the morning only. Too much caffeine can wreak havoc on your endocrine system, especially if there are other strong sources of chemical or emotional stress in your life. TURN OFF THE TV AND GET SOME SLEEP! Every hour of sleep you get prior to midnight carries twice the regenerative power of
sleep that begins after midnight. Finally, if you have a hard time winding down and getting to sleep at night, try using some magnesium citrate. The brand I recommend is Natural Vitality Calm. You can make a hot drink using 1 teaspoon in a cup of hot water just before bed. Add a little honey for flavor! I’m considering using phentermine. What is it and how does it work? There are many websites that go into great detail about phentermine. Drugs.com, WebMD and ConsumerAffairs.com. All these sites have good detailed information about risk factors, common side effects, and failed long-term effectiveness of this drug. Phentermine is very similar to amphetamines. It acts as an appetite suppressant by irritating the central nervous system. There are many specific warnings given to people with any history of cardiovascular disease or high blood pressure. Common side effects noted on the above websites include: insomnia, irritability, memory loss, tremors, dry eyes and mouth, decreased memory and depression. Most of the folks I’ve talked to who have tried phentermine tell me they felt like a squirrel on caffeine. The biggest question I would ask is, “what’s going to happen to me after I stop taking this drug? Will I have to take it for the rest of my life?”

What themes do you pursue in your art? Everything that I paint or sculpt, I do so with intentionality and in my own unique style. It is all inspired by someone or something. Sometimes my art will take the form of abstract blends of bold colors and shapes, sometimes it will take very primitive, organic textures and forms. Whatever form it takes, my work expresses the philosophical conclusions I’ve made based on my life’s experiences as well as through my study and practice of medicine. I work under the belief that the mind, body and spirit are unified, and that through every art form, we must embrace beauty, celebrate emergence, and find new ways to change the world one viewer at a time. Where can I view and purchase your artwork? Most of my paintings and sculptures can be viewed at my studio in Eads, Tennessee. There will be an official gallery opening on April 21, 2016, that will be open to the public. Some of my most prestige pieces will be on display
and available for auction. One of my personal favorites that honors my late wife will be displayed on the lawn of the gallery. Some of my pieces are also available to view and purchase at Doris McLendon’s Fine Jewelry (9387 Poplar Avenue, Germantown, Tenn.). Is your gallery available to rent for events? I want my art to truly belong to everyone. My hope for my art is not only for people to connect with it personally, but also that it has functionality. I think that a gallery itself is a special art space that can function to bring people together. My vision is to offer my gallery as a rental for special events, shows, lectures, small weddings, or even anniversary or birthday dinners for two. The gallery can hold up to 125 people, but groups of about 75 would be a more comfortable capacity. Rental inquiries can be submitted on my website.

How and when did Doris McLendon’s Fine Jewelry begin? My passion for jewelry began when I was a junior high teacher filling my summers off working at a jewelry store. When I moved to Memphis, I worked as a manager/buyer at a local store, built my rapport with the venders, and worked my way toward my dream of owning a jewelry store. With only $5,000, a line of credit from a local bank, and an immense passion for jewelry, I opened my store in 1992. It has since enabled me to travel to markets all around the world in pursuit of the finest designs to fill my Germantown store. What is your favorite part about being a jeweler? My favorite part about being a jeweler is helping customers select engagement rings. The decision to spend the rest of your life with someone is momentous itself, so deciding on the rings that will symbolize that devotion is a very special process. My knowledgable staff and I are available to help hopeful fiancés navigate the vast range of engagement ring options, narrowing them down to the pieces that suit both her unique personality and his budget. Who are some designers you carry? Sophia, William Henry, Demarco, Fredric Sage, and Ariva to name a few. What is the current trend for engagement ring styles? Recently, trends have shifted away from the traditional simple white diamond and toward stones with color. We have a variety of stones including sapphires, champagne diamonds, emeralds, and rubies for the modern bride. Whatever designs, styles, or trends suit the bride’s taste, her options are limited to what already exists – my staff and I offer custom design services in order for our customers to curate the ring (there really is such a thing as the ring). What other services do you offer? Along with our custom design jewelry, we are able to provide professional repair and appraisals by a graduate gemologist.
