MAKING THE MOST OF YOUR MOVE Moving can be a hassle. Big League Movers owner Jonathan Greer explains what you need to make your move easier and less stressful. SM: How is cost determined for my move? JG: Generally speaking, the cost is determined based on the items you are moving and where we are moving the items from/to. There are many variables to consider that most customers don’t think about, so our quoting process is very detailoriented and thorough. At Big League Movers, we confront the fear of hidden fees directly by offering transparent pricing in the form of a written quote. It takes about 5 to 15 minutes for us to quote a move over the phone or customers can create their own quote on our website in a matter of minutes. For larger jobs we find that it is more effective for customers’ time to schedule a free onsite survey. We offer 3 types of quotes: Guaranteed Rate, Hourly or Hourly - Not to Exceed. We have additional fees for specialty items, like pianos, pool tables and gun safes. At the same time, we have zero hidden fees. SM: How can I keep costs down during my move? JG: Being involved and knowledgeable of the moving process are the best ways to keep cost down. Packing and unpacking your own items into boxes will save 50 to 60 percent of the cost on a local move. During the planning stage, check with moving companies to see if they offer used materials for free or at reduced rates. See if
they offer reduced pricing based on the day of the week or time of the month. Dis-assembling furniture and moving some of the smaller items yourself, if you are able, are also good ways to keep cost down. Don’t be afraid to ask movers how you can save money. In short, anything that can do to help the movers have less to pack and move or be more efficient are the best ways to cut down on cost. SM: How can I ensure that my belongings will end up in the correct room? JG: Make sure to label your boxes clearly for the movers, and explain your labeling system to your movers. Color coding for each room is a great idea, or consistent shorthand such as DR for dining room, MBR for master bedroom, etc. Also, have a floor-plan, or even a map, in mind for the new location. We will be happy to arrange your furniture at your request in each room.
