“The Huracán EVO Spyder incorporates all the performance, next-generation vehicle control and aerodynamic features of the EVO coupé, with its own unique personality and a driving excitement that only an open-top car can offer” says Stefano Domenicali, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Automobili Lamborghini. “The Spyder continues the Huracán EVO’s evolutionary charge: extremely easy to drive while excelling as a highly responsive, fun super sports car. Particularly with the roof open, the emotive sound of the naturally aspirated engine and the refined, lightweight exhaust system take the sensory experience to a new level. The Huracán EVO Spyder’s design, performance and exhilarating open-air drive experience is literally breath-taking.” The Huracán EVO Spyder combines the option of open-air driving with the prowess of the Huracán EVO’s evolutionary technologies. Rear-wheel steering and a four-wheel torque vectoring system are controlled centrally by Lamborghini Dinamica Veicolo Integrata (LDVI): the Central Processing Unit integrating and controlling every aspect of the car’s set-up and dynamic behaviour, anticipating the next move and needs of the driver and interpreting this through a ‘feed forward logic’. Processing data in real time, the LDVI system monitors and analyses external conditions through its active suspension and all-wheel drive. It also recognizes the driver’s intentions through steering wheel, braking, acceleration, the gear and driving mode selected. Precise inputs are given to the vehicle dynamic system, creating a super-agile and responsive car with unparalleled level of control. The car doesn’t just react, but predicts the best driving set-up for the next moment. The aerodynamic superiority of the Huracán EVO is continued with the Spyder. With roof either up or down, the aerodynamic competency of the EVO Spyder, with more than five times the downforce and efficiency of the original Huracán Spyder, sustains not only the most dynamic handling and performance but the comfort of the occupants. Cabin airflow is minimised and the occupants assured a quiet cockpit environment. Like the EVO coupé, a new front bumper gives the car a low, assertive personality with aerodynamic efficiency improved via the front splitter and enlarged air intakes. At the rear the Huracán EVO Spyder adopts the new rear design evocative of naked race bikes and
12
inspired by Lamborghini Huracán race cars, with the twin outlets of the new sports exhaust system positioned high in the rear bumper. At the upper end of the tail an integrated, slotted spoiler provides enhanced air flow, clearly emphasizing the car’s aerodynamic abilities. The underbody has been shaped to maximize aerodynamic efficiency. The side profile of the Huracán EVO Spyder differs significantly from the coupé, but is equally dynamic with roof up or down. The lightweight soft top carves the top line of the Spyder’s silhouette while up, and is hidden away when down in the most efficient space possible, revealing the athletic and equally powerful lines of the open car. Automatic popup safety bars are hidden away. Whether the roof is up or down, the driver can electronically open the rear window, which functions as a windshield when closed and when open, amplifies the song of the EVO Spyder’s unique aspirated engine sound. The electrohydraulic, lightweight soft top opens via a button positioned on the central tunnel in just 17 seconds up to a driving speed of 50 km/h. As the roof silently lowers, two fins in the same color as the body rise upwards out of the folding roof casing towards the seatbacks and once in place continue the line to the rear, enhancing the car’s low, dynamic appearance. An integrated duct between the fins reduces turbulence in the headroom during open top driving. Interior options include new EVO trim in Alcantara and leather mix, with stitching and trim details to match the body tone. A number of style packages are offered as well as lightweight materials such as Carbon Forged Composite and Lamborghini’s patented Carbon Skin. The new 8.4” touchscreen, located in the center console just above the start button, puts connectivity at the driver’s fingertips, with multifinger gesture control. Governing car functions including seats, climate and the status of the LDVI system in real-time. It also puts all infotainment, such as Apple CarPlay with smartphone integration, at the cabin occupants’ disposal. A multimedia system incorporates connected navigation and entertainment including web radio and video player, with the intuitive interface enabling voice commands. The starting price of the EVO Spyder in Europe is EUR 202,437 excluding tax. Source: Lamborghini

1984 BMW 535i
To the untrained eye this is an old box from way back when Thatcher and Reagan were familiar household names, snackwich machines gave you gourmet like sandwiches and if you were affluent, you made use of a sodastream when your friends came over. A select few that had deep pockets and enjoyed a spirited drive had the privilege of owning a BMW and the luckiest of them had the granddaddy of the M generation of saloon cars, the BMW M535i.
Step in and turn the key to light up that 3.5 litre straight 6 single cam motor. The untrained ear will register that this is something special and those petrol heads amongst us will feel a spine tingling one gets when there’s motoring nirvana lurking by. Headline figures are 160kw, 215bhp and a 7 second 0-100km/h. Not that quick you might say however this is 1984 and if you required something quicker you had to look up exotica from Maranello or Stuttgart. The average family sedan took a week to get to 100km/h and sounded wheezy getting there. The M535i is still warming up at 160. In the early 80’s none of the big names made a super saloon. This was the first sedan from the magicians at M, and is the car that kicked off the range of M cars we are able to savour today. This here is
the original BMW halo car and this particular example from the boys at SMG Collection Umhlanga is pristine beyond belief. The paintwork; the gorgeous deep dish wheels to the Recaro M embossed seats. I have seen cars that are a few months old in far worse condition. This car was cherished by an enthusiast and continues its pampered life at SMG. However, I doubt that it will be there for much longer. Some of the most precious gems can be seen and purchased from the multitude of shopping malls around the corner. Try finding an M535i in this condition, and you will struggle to do so at well-known auction houses from around the world. Some of the best investments today are property, crypto currency and art. Motoring art does not come any better than this. BMW made just 1650 in its life cycle and the M535i was only seen in Germany and South Africa. The front
15
spoiler is a dead giveaway that this is a purpose made track focused machine. Then there’s the Recaro sit-in-me seats that hug you like a wrestler would. The 3 spoke steering wheel is straight out of the BMW M1. That 70’s 2 door coupe that Lamborghini and BMW collaborated to build before BMW decided to do so in-house. Nevermind that the M1 looks a lot like a Lamborghini from the 70’s. That’s a story for another time. Speaking about being track focused, the stance of this car on its sports suspension is menacing and the gearbox is a close ratio dogleg where the first gear is down and to the left. 2nd and 3rd are in line as well as 4th and 5th. The theory behind this was on track, one used the 1st gear for the standing start. Thereafter you would use
16
2nd and 3rd more often through the corners, so they decided that these should be in a straight line which would save you time and reduce the risk of error. Only M could think this up and I am beginning to think that M should stand for Masterclass Magic from Munich. This is a 34-year-old car and the gear shift is slick and precise. There’s no hint that this car packs 160kw and driveability is of ease and fluidity. The slightly heavy feel on the steering wheel is possibly due to those aggressive looking wheels and tyres. The steering feel tends to lighten up while on the move and the pedals are perfectly placed with enough room for size 12’s. If you want to be taken seriously, you have to have the voice. The M535i sounds glorious in every gear through the entire
rev range from a burbly idle to the higher top end. There are only a few factory production cars that sound so good and this is one of them. Its creamy and smooth that only a 6 cylinder can deliver. No need for the period cassette player which many have forgotten and many have no clue about. Who needs one when you have those double pipes singing for you all day? If you like the way something looks, has a drive that gets the senses going and is a sure fire investment, why not? This car has presence that no modern motor vehicle can muster. Is it the original M stripes, the fat takkies or the spoilers front and rear? No, It’s the sum of it all. Bravo M!

The new Porsche 911 Cabriolet looks wider, more self-assured and altogether more muscular than its predecessor. Wider wings arch over the large 20-inch wheels at the front and 21-inch wheels at the rear. The rear-wheel-drive models now match the bodywork width of the existing all-wheel models. The rear axle has grown by 44 millimetres, whilst the 45 millimetres wider front end revives a traditional feature from earlier 911 generations: a forward-extended bonnet with a distinctive recess in front of the windscreen. Both elements lengthen the front of the vehicle and give it a dynamic look. The rear is dominated by the significantly wider, retractable spoiler and the continuous, seamless light bar. With the exception of the front and rear sections, the entire outer skin is now made from aluminium. The interior is distinctive, with clear, straightlines and recessed instruments defining the dashboard. As it does in the original 911, the new dashboard covers the entire width between two horizontal wing levels. Alongside the centrally positioned rev counter, two thin, frameless freeform displays deliver information to the driver. Now 10.9 inches in size, the centre screen of the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) can be operated quickly without causing distraction. As a world first, Porsche has developed the Wet Mode, which is included as standard. This function detects water on the road, preconditions the control systems accordingly and warns the driver, who can then opt to set up the car

with a focus on safety, by simply pushing a button or using the mode switch on the steering wheel available with the Sport Chrono Package.
The camera-based warning and brake assist system, also fitted as standard, detects the risk of collision with vehicles, pedestrians, or cyclists, and initiates a warning or emergency braking procedure if necessary. A Park Assistant system, including reversing camera, completes the standard configuration of the convertible. Options for the 911 include Night Vision Assist, with thermal imaging camera, as well as adaptive cruise control with automatic distance control, stop-and-go function and reversible occupant protection. The open-top 911 continues a long tradition, established when Porsche unveiled the prototype of the first 911 Cabriolet in September 1981 at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt. A year later, the first 911 convertible rolled off the production line. Initially available as the 911 Carrera S Cabriolet and 911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet the latest softtop versions of the brand’s iconic sports car include all the innovative features of the Coupe, along with convertible-specific elements, such as new hydraulics responsible for opening and closing the roof quicker than ever before. The open-top version of the iconic sports car echoes the modern lines of the Coupe, though it remains unmistakably a Porsche 911 in Cabriolet form.

True to the legendary abilities of one of McLaren’s greatest racers, every element of the McLaren Senna has an uncompromising performance ethos and a raw focus that delivers the purest connection between driver and car; this is the most responsive and engaging road-going McLaren ever. To this end, the appearance of the car is deliberately aggressive; organic shapes have given way to a design language that is purposely fragmented in its pursuit of absolute performance with downforce and aerodynamic balance the guiding principles. The McLaren Senna is the strongest expression yet of McLaren’s ‘form follows function’ philosophy. Always at the forefront of vehicle aerodynamics, McLaren redefined supercar performance in the 1990s with the McLaren F1, the world’s first ground-effect road car. The bar was raised once again with the first Ultimate Series, the McLaren P1. Now with the McLaren Senna, ground-breaking active front and rear aerodynamics and RaceActive Chassis Control II combine to raise

Travel Chapters in a Porsche Boxster GTS When moods count, it’s the car that takes you there… 2 a.m. That telephone should be banned from my bedside. After all, a beeping mobile phone has no place next to an Anthony Bourdain book, a set of keys and a bottle of Evian. But, maybe I was just waiting for this call. And she called. In that characteristic drawl, she only told me three things. “Fetch me from the airport at noon. I’m coming home. Make it count.” That’s her. That’s always been her. No concept of time or pleasantries. I glance at the Bourdain book, wondering if all writers were such tempestuous beasts. But elegance is attitude, that I know. Back in Durban, after a book tour to New York, this one was a friend who I suffered with relish. Always arriving with anecdotes, I was sure I could counter hers with my own. But, mood pensive…what would she be wanting now? I had fetched her from the airport dozens of times before. Who knew what mood she would spout? Who cared? Maybe she had pushed my friendship a bit too far with those requests to do her bidding. Useless arguing, I’d never be able to say no to this woman. I flick through the Bourdain book. A quote jumps out at me, catches me by the throat: “One of life’s terrible truths is that women like men who seem to know what they are doing.” Thank you Mr Bourdain. May you Rest in Foodie Peace. I’ve changed since she last saw me. I certainly know exactly what I am doing now. The glint of the keys on the table. She’s getting the Porsche. Why? Because she is a classic with a vocabulary to match the class of German engineering. She never misses a beat. And that Porsche doesn’t either. I am too late. She flops into the front seat, dark glasses and a scowl. She had been watching the Porsche from the airport windows. Windows don’t do this car justice. She’d just have to taste the whole apple. I am nonchalant. She complains, commands. That pout, and I know this lady always travels light. Those bags fit neatly into the boot space. Front and back. Martha Stewart would have applauded my graceful effortless stowing of her bags. “Take me to some ocean or another,” she growls,“I’ve been craving the sea. The Durban coastline.” Let me show her what a growl sounds like. Key in, I start the Porsche. That growl turns heads. It turned hers. She never takes off those dark glasses. She’s going to need it, and I know she doesn’t care about messed up hair. Eighteen hours on a flight, from New York and this girl’s got to let that hair fly wild. I let the top down on the Porsche. “Like the colour?,”
24
I ask as the engine roars us out of the airport. “Grey. Like my mood,” she answers. It’s going to take some work, and I know. I fly along the bends and sexy curves, heading north. I pride myself on being prepared. I know where I am taking her. It becomes a quest. Change that hard-core New York woman into the girl from Durban. Lucky me, the traffic means nothing. What traffic? We only see blurs. But I’ll ease her in gently. When she least expects it, I reach over. My fingers have found that one spot. The button. The Porsche roars like a wolf separated from her pack. Sport Plus and Porsche Sports Exhaust, you have my respect. That red lipstick pout smiles slightly. She thinks I don’t notice. “Music,” she mouths. I don’t hear her above the roar and the breeze from that Indian Ocean becoming a backdraft wind that blows our hair into halos. But, we’re no angels. I overtake. Smooth as the white chiffon blouse she is wearing. I could grip this steering wheel for days, it asks my palms to caress it. She doesn’t care that I didn’t hear her. Taking things into her own hands, she runs a long nail on the console, pretending she is only looking for the radio. But, all she’s doing is enjoying the feel of the leather. I know her. “Don’t bother,” I tell her, it’s all pre-programmed. The swells of Bach’s Goldberg Variations swell from a Fugue. Look, no offence, but Bach must only be a cello man. It’s that simple. Some things just work. Some things are timeless. That steering wheel is butter. It is like an extension of my brain. I curve that roundabout like the Porsche and I are twins on a magic carpet. Down a leafy grove near Westbrook she commands,“Park it.” Before I can ask, she’s out the door. The Porsche, a watcher and a beacon watches her. She kicks off her Prada boots, drops that signature red handbag, rips off that black Gatsby necklace, and she’s flying onto the sand. Free-wheeling, dropping the appropriate, wild on the sand. I stand with my back to the Porsche. I have a call to make. Nick takes my call on the second ring. Christine on my first. This writer wants ocean. I’ll give her what she wants. I take out my tripod and take some shots. I know she hates being photographed, she’s sick of all that. I just click that car. Tripod forgotten, we head out further north. “I forgot my tripod,” I almost curse out loud as we reach Ballito. She looks at me with annoyance and jet-lag. Those tired eyes look better in the overcast sky than ever. “Relax, I’ll go back and get it. In this Porsche, it’s a short ride.” I tell her. “In this Porsche, a ride is a ride.” she laughs. She’s softening. It’s the car, it’s the music, it’s the top-down, it’s the ocean. Slowly, she’s peeling away layers and my friend is coming home. Tripod retrieved, we head to the Canelands Beach Club and Spa. Tucked away in an enclave, you wouldn’t know Salt Rock is
25
hiding this gem. But, like all good things, it’s best to tease them out from nowhere. Nick has done his deed. A signature dessert awaits us, but we can barely notice him. Parking the Porsche, Lungi appears like an angel at my side, assuring me our luggage will be taken to our rooms. Yeah, I booked two rooms. This is one friendship I want to leave to linger. That’s a tough ask in this place. It screams romance. The spanning view of the sea, and a long turquoise pool and I can see her body relax, her lips open in awe. I know. I have won this quest. She wanted worthwhile. Well you don’t get more worthwhile than this. Poolside, we sip on iced cranberry juice and Nick brings in the signature dessert with a flourish. I had told him to make it a dessert as classic and timeless as a Porsche, but with a dramatic flair of the contemporary. And like the car that never goes out of style, we sample smooth lime cheesecake, a skyscraper of a cinnamon tuille and raspberry coulis plated like a Dali painting. Suran, our waiter is unobtrusive, but we know he is there. Miraculously appearing when we need anything. Green tea for me, a strong espresso for her. The sun goes down on the rocks, and the cobalt clouds come rolling in. “Dinner?” she says, and suddenly I am ravenous. “After a drive like that, I have an appetite,” she says and there is something cryptic in her voice. Suran ushers us into a dining hall decorated with an African fusion chic which somehow the designers have combined with a nautical beachy vibe that works. The chandelier is all she can look at. Twinkling lights, and a dinner for two. Can you say no? Dinner for her is a grilled Dorado with lemon butter sauce. Suran reminds us that the Dorado was caught fresh and ethically sourced. She checks. It’s on the green list. The salad she orders is organic and locally sourced from farms in the area. She checks on these things. I know. I go for the magnificent seafood platter. Unctuous (and Nigella can spank me with a wooden spoon for stealing her work). But unctuous is all I can say. My meal gave “seafood platter for one” a whole new meaning. I sat there in awe as I felt a piece of the ocean was presented to me. It was a family of shellfish that made my mouth water the moment it hit the linen tablecloth. The freshly grilled baby crayfish accompanied with a langoustine, queen prawns and the locally caught line fish. I swear I thought I saw them catch the fish that afternoon. It doesn’t stop there, the
26
sautéed lemon and herb Falkland calamari and local mussels in a creamy garlic sauce was to die for. I don’t know when was the last time I sunk my teeth into something this tantalizing. The drive, the sea, the tartly sweet lime cheesecake and the dinner has melted this woman. Her hooded eyes ask for a bed. “Pity the spa is closed,” she tells me. We had perused the extensive menu of spa options at the Canelands Beach Club earlier on. A foot rub or a back massage with Healing Earth products would have been the business – taken those airplane blues away. Another day, another drive for a pamper session at The Canelands Spa. Or more… We slowly and languorously head upstairs. A group of raucous diners look at us. They have arrived for a Conference at the Canelands private Conference Room. Perhaps they know where we are heading? But do I? She lingers at the landing at the top of the stairs. Kate Winslet in Titanic, I the rustic Leonardo look up at her framed by the African artwork. “Keys,” she whispers, and I fumble. Handing her room keys, I walk down the passage to my room. “Sleep like a baby,” she says, and disappears into her seafacing room. Inside my room, a hot bath, laced with Epsom salts awaits me. As I lie in the bath, reflecting on the day, I knew one thing was certain, I made her smile, I made her laugh I gave her that Durban spice she craved. And like the Epsom bath I achieved what I needed to do for her, reduce her stress and discomfort from her travels. All in all, and dare I say, it wasn’t all just about her, I needed this small break from city life. I ogled at the bed, turned down and tempting, subtle nougat nibbles on pillows meant for stressed heads to lie. The bed was designed just for me that night, fit for a king. I pounce on it as I let its tenderness swallow me whole. As I drift off, I see her red handbag on my floor. Someone had left it there by mistake. Was it a mistake? She may come looking for it later as she takes her stroll on the direct access beach late at night. My eyes close to that cherry colour. “Well, there’s always the drive back in that Porsche tomorrow.” I say. Some things can be better than others. The gentle sound of the ocean in the background made waking up a privilege. I rise up, stride to the curtains, slide them open, and watch as the grey horizon welcomes me to yet another day. I gather my belongings and reach for the Porsche key. It’s time to return to reality. Suran, doing his Alfred Pennyworth impression, is at our beck and call. He tells us a wedding is booked for next week and winks. We both laugh. The Canelands Beach Club would be the
place if we ever…. Well, never mind that. Suran loads the car and sees us off. There was nothing to be said. I just focused on the drive in the rain. Needless to say, the weather didn’t dampen the fact that I had raw power in the palm of my hands. The car handled the road the same way I handled this feisty woman beside me, with much love and respect. We arrive at her gates, she opens the door, glances at me and gives me that all too familiar smile. It spoke volumes as I knew I would be seeing her again soon. As she gently slams the door shut, I catch a glimpse of that cherry bag. I smile and know that this whole journey was, like the Porsche, nothing less than wunderbar. We would make that drive again, to the superior destination. Zahir Bassa and ZP Dala for DRIV3R.world
Mini Review Porsche Boxster GTS Fun Factor Performance Rarity Investment Value
ooooo ooooo ooooo ooooo
DRIV3R.world has had the luxury of having had eight different Porsches’ as part of its long term fleet, including three 911 Carreras and yet, this Porsche Boxster GTS has been the most fun and most engaging to drive. Maybe its the incredible handling of this mid-engined sportscar, maybe it’s the Porsche sports exhaust mated
Special thank you to Canelands Beach Club and Spa www.thecanelands.co.za
to a normally aspirated high performance engine, maybe its the looks that have borrowed styling cues from the iconic Carrera GT hypercar... one thing’s for sure this car punches way above its weight on the ‘drivers car’ scale. McLaren
Supercar feature
MP4-12C Spider
What may have started off as just another ordinary Saturday morning was about to be intercepted by an experience like no other. I remember getting out of my vehicle only to be blown against it like a ragdoll. It was windy. So windy that I thought I saw birds doubling back mid-flight and trees were definitely way past swaying. Strands of my hair stuck to my lip gloss and the feeling of the scorching summer sun made no apologies as it bore down on my skin. I was ecstatic to be there. I had not been to the Virginia Airport in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal for nearly a decade. The reason for my visit pulled in stealthily and found itself nestled impeccably between two bold white lines in the diminutive parking lot. I was in absolute awe. I think my jaw unhinged as I unwittingly stopped breathing and blinking for a few seconds. I really believe I forgot how to at that point. Glossy magazines and high definition screensavers do absolutely no justice to this magnificent piece of machinery. As the dihedral doors went up, I was convinced I was in the presence of perfection. The conception of the McLaren MP4-12C Spider gives us yet another glaring reason to feel honoured and privileged to be part of an evolutionary species armed with stark creativity, genius ability, unbridled talent and insurmountable passion gravitated towards her with an inexplicable desire to just soak in her flawlessness. The colour, solid frame and delicate free flowing lines, commanded respect and claimed its uniqueness with such ease. I could not wait to jump in.

The gentleman, who happily drove the McLaren to the location, watched me amusingly as my extreme exuberance to get in was met with a lesson on how to actually do so. I eventually backed my butt up first onto the leather bucket seat as I was instructed to and followed through with what I would deem, was an elegant attempt at getting my legs to align with the rest of my body inside the supercar. She immediately felt like home. I was emotionally riveted and felt somewhat invincible. Said gentleman turned on the ignition at the push of a button and she roared. I was exceptionally thankful to have my sense of hearing manipulated by such a captivating sound. Thereafter the retractable hardtop made its way rather quickly, smoothly and silently into its designated space also with just a mere push of a button. The interior design boasted toned down uncomplicated panels with clear markings. We were only allowed to run this exotic car at a mere 30km/h passed the hangars to get to our spots of choice for the photo shoot. She desperately wanted to break free like a bullet through the chamber of a gun. We had to however settle for having the hazards on as a standing rule of the airport and just simply rolling onto grassy plains along the runway. The hefty sliding door to a very unassuming hangar was opened by one of our curious photographers. We gasped with delight as it housed a grandiose King Air aircraft. The McLaren held her own like I knew she would next to the sky beast. I felt her resonate with such pride and she maintained her majestic disposition even in the company of the jet.
Shooting this smouldering beauty was anything but your run off the mill picture taking session. Our camera crew even though having spent a few solid hours capturing her authoritative stance through their lenses from angles that probably have not even been discovered as yet, simply could not get enough of her. At one point, a group of young men strolled by and peered through the holes of the steel fencing to make sense of all the frenzy. She enticed them to come closer and they seized their opportunity to take several pictures on their mobile devices. Their glazed over eyes and expansive smiles proved just how stunned and remarkably mesmerized they were by her presence. As storm clouds began to gather, the top was brought back up. Soft water droplets fell squarely on her and she smugly gleamed and glistened. That was our cue to make tracks. Two and a half hours spent ogling at her, felt like an even further compressed nanosecond. The McLaren had to be returned and I left with a sense of both overwhelming sadness and triumph. I was afforded an amazing and memorable opportunity to get up close and personal with one of Britain’s most revered inventions which left an indelible mark on the part of my soul that fell head over heels in love with this supercar. On the other hand, the dire need to have one fit in my Christmas stocking this year was definitely going to be a far cry from reality.

Expert opinion
Is the McLaren 12C a timeless supercar ? DRIV3R.world had the absolute pleasure of catching up with charming and charismatic 36 year old Sales Manager at SMG Umhlanga, Aseed Mthini. With 17 years of experience in the motor industry and having driven almost every supercar available in South Africa, Aseed gave us his views on the McLaren MP4-12C. Here’s what he had to say... “The McLaren 12C was the first production car designed by McLaren since the F1 model in 1998. The car’s final design was introduced in 2009. Frank Stephenson was the designer of this particular supercar and he began this project in 2007. Most of the components used in this car is carbon fibre which means, the lighter the vehicle, the faster it is. McLaren secretly purchased a Ferrari 360 as a mule when they started to design this particular model. Clearly they had their sites on beating the then benchmark in the category. At a design and technology level, every single component in this particular exotic car is there for a reason and contributes to the culture of the motor vehicle eg: the buttons, the lights, the stitching on the seats and much more. All these elements are designed to enhance the experience and aerodynamics of this particular model and many in turn, enhance the performance. It is certainly a supercar that you can drive everyday. In fact in normal mode the car drives like a BMW 5-Series... that says it all. Looking after it is just like any other car, you need to make sure it is really warmed up before you hammer it and make sure it’s serviced on time. Parts are easily available in South Africa and in a worst case scenario, there will be a 10 working day wait to bring in components from overseas. The design lines and the aerodynamics of this car truly stand out and I would rank it in the top 5 cars in its category. There are approximately twenty five cars in South Africa today for just over R2.6m... and with 441kW of power, 600Nm of torque and 0-100 in 2.9 seconds, it makes for a car that is out of this world and beyond any imagination.”

Electrifyingly fun to drive The brand with the four rings presents its first fully electric series production model, the Audi e-tron. The full size SUV combines sportiness and everyday usability. Its two electric motors together with electric all wheel drive provide for awesome performance and agile handling. The large high voltage battery lays the foundation for a range of more than 400 kilometers in the driving cycle. In combination with a comprehensive range of charging options for home and on the move, customers can enjoy fully electric driving without having to compromise. Two electric motors drive the electric SUV powerfully, free of emissions, and almost silently, with a system output of up to 300 kW and 664 Nm of torque. The maximum drive torque is available within fractions of a second and provides enormous pulling power. The Audi e-tron completes the standard sprint in 5.7 seconds. Top speed is an electronically-limited 200 km/h. A new quattro generation – electric all-wheel drive – provides for superlative traction and handling on any terrain and in any weather conditions. It ensures the continuous and fully variable regulation of the ideal distribution of drive torque between the two axles – within a fraction of a second. In most cases, the electric SUV tends to use its rear electric motor to achieve the highest efficiency. If the driver demands more power than it can supply, the electric all wheel drive redistributes torque as required to the front axle. This also happens predictively even before slip occurs in icy conditions or when cornering fast, or if the car understeers or oversteers. The dynamic talents of the Audi e-tron are especially apparent at low coefficients of friction, such as on snow. The entire driver’s area has a driver bias, and the two large touch response displays are angled in the driver’s direction. They replace nearly every conventional switch and control. The Audi e-tron will be the brand’s first model to allow customers to add certain functions online whenever the need for them arises. This will be possible from mid-2019 onwards. For example, the LED headlights can be upgraded to matrix LED headlights with intelligently controlled high beams, and assist systems or infotainment extras such as DAB+ digital radio and the Audi smartphone interface can be added. The Audi e-tron will be arriving in European dealerships in early 2019. The starting price of the electric SUV in Germany is 79,900 Euros. Source: Audi

The new Supra is the first global model of TOYOTA GAZOO Racing’s GR sports car series. Ever since first competing in Germany’s 24 Hours of Nürburgring endurance race in 2007, TOYOTA GAZOO Racing has been aiming through its motorsports activities to develop its cars and people, with the goal of “making ever-better cars.” The knowledge and know-how it has built up over the years have been funneled into bringing the Supra back to life in the form of the “GR Supra,” as a car that people all over the world will find fun to drive. Toyota President Akio Toyoda, who is also a master driver, said: “Back in the day, I spent countless hours driving an old Supra at Nürburgring to become a master driver. Supra is like an old friend that holds a special place in my heart. While other manufacturers were putting their beautiful new prototypes which they were going to introduce through the paces, I was driving an old Supra that was no longer in production. So even though Toyota had no plans to make a new Supra, just like a lot of other die hard Supra fans around the world, I secretly wanted to make it happen. The new GR Supra was born through testing at Nürburgring, and I can honestly say that it is a car that is fun to drive and better than ever.” The all-new fifth-generation Supra marks the end of a 17-year hiatus since the conclusion of production of the previous generation in 2002. Ever since the Supra’s inception in 1978, all generations have been front-engine, rear-wheel-drive vehicles powered by an inline sixcylinder engine. The latest rendition is no exception. This time around, extensive attention has also been paid to the three fundamental
elements of wheelbase, tread, and center of gravity, thus achieving handling performance befitting a pure sports car, horsepower and circuit lap times, we emphasized sensitivity performance, such as the degree to which driving could be felt to be fun, with car and driver becoming one.” Packaging in pursuit of the fundamental origins To achieve excellent handling and a stable cornering stance, the three elements of wheelbase, tread, and center of gravity were positioned as the most important factors in pursuing the ideal conception of a pure sports car. Being straightforward about the model being a two-seater, at 2,470 mm, its wheelbase is 100 mm shorter than that of the 86. The relatively short wheelbase results in a wheelbase-to-tread ratio of 1.55, one of the smallest ratios among mass production sports cars, contributing to excellent turning performance. All-out efforts were made to lower the center of gravity, resulting in a lower center of gravity than in the 86, which features a horizontally opposed engine. An ideal 50/50 distribution in front/rear weight balance, which is one of the crucial elements in determining cornering
performance, was achieved. Exterior highlights Side packaging that emphasizes the presence of the wheels and tires, thanks to a short wheelbase and large-diameter wheels. A two seater appropriate, close fitting cabin and a super-wide stance born of a wide tread. The long nose, short cabin silhouette of an inline 6, front engine and rear wheel drive sports car. Interior highlights The space of a quintessential front engine, rear wheel drive sports car created by a vertically slim instrument panel and a high, wide console. A driver’s seat oriented, close fitting, new generation cockpit layout resulting from a shift by wire gearshift, an 8.8-inch gauge display, and a large, full color headup display. By fully leveraging the sports car packaging and layout characteristics described above, efforts were made to achieve sports styling suitable for the first global model of the GR series.
New Car preview A high-rigidity body for a higher state of driving performance With a skeletal structure that employs both aluminium and steel, and by pursuing ways to increase bonding strength among materials of differing composition, body rigidity up to 2.5 times higher than that of the 86 was achieved. Maneuverability honed on the roads of the world With importance placed on the environments in which customers drive in the real world, proving runs were thoroughly and repeatedly conducted on regular roads during various stages of development.
Such runs naturally included racingspeed drives at NĂźrburgring. But numerous tests were also held on a wide range of roads throughout the world, such as country roads in Europe, the Autobahn in Germany, snow covered and ice covered roads in Northern Europe, highways in the United States, and winding roads in Japan. The result is tuning aimed at enabling drivers to experience the joy of driving the new Supra even in everyday situations. Source: Toyota

New Car preview
Aston Martin has made a significant and symbolic stride towards the luxury brand’s first SUV - now officially confirmed as being named DBX - with the first development prototype being put through its paces along a demanding Welsh Rally stage in the hands of the company’s Chief Engineer, Matt Becker. This first test for DBX signifies the start of an extensive testing programme. This first prototype drive in Wales signifies the start of ‘real world’ testing, in which the SUV will be subjected to a punishing regime that will ultimately see development prototypes of the all-new machine tackle some of the world’s harshest environments, from the frozen Arctic and scorching deserts of the Middle East to high Alpine passes and the high-speed demands of the German autobahn and Nürburgring . The unique nature of DBX in the Aston Martin range means it requires a dedicated test programme; one that features new processes, procedures and standards that reflect its allpurpose role. So, while it will perform with the verve and poise of a true Aston Martin, its dynamic envelope has to extend into areas
previously off-limits to the marque’s sporting roots. Naturally this includes impressive multi-terrain and towing capabilities as befits a state-of-theart SUV. Speaking of his drive in the DBX development prototype, Aston Martin Chief Engineer, Matt Becker, said: ‘We have already developed and tuned DBX in the driving simulator, which has enabled us to make excellent progress in advance of the first physical prototype cars being available. Still, it’s always a big day when you get to put the first actual miles on an early prototype and I’m delighted with the near perfect correlation between the simulator and this prototype. As an engineer, it’s genuinely exciting to get a feel for the car you’re working to create. DBX is a very different kind of Aston Martin, but we will be testing it in all conditions and across all terrains to ensure it delivers a driving experience worthy of the wings badge’. DBX is scheduled to be unveiled in the last quarter of 2019 and will be built at Aston Martin Lagonda’s St Athan facility; a state-of-the-art luxury manufacturing plant. Source: Aston Martin

A MEANDER THROUGH THE MIDLANDS I am still very relaxed from my week spent in the Midlands (long may it last) and I was very blessed to be able to return to Midlands Saddle & Trout again this year. Last year I had a wonderful time with my Mother and Sister exploring new places along the Midlands Meander. Unfortunately my Sister could not join us this year due to family commitments. We drove up on a Monday and made a stop in Hilton to look at the Hilton SPCA and then to have coffee at Ground Coffee House. We always try to stop over at the Hilton SPCA when driving to the Midlands or Drakensberg. I was very pleased to discover a pile of Ideas magazines for my sister but didn’t find anything for myself this time. I follow Ground Coffee House on Instagram and I have had their coffee through the Discover Great Coffee Club, but this was the first time I had visited the shop. Such a lovely little shop and it was busy! People popping in for takeaway coffee, people having meetings, people working on laptops and people just sitting and enjoying the sun with a cup of coffee (Mom and I). We enjoyed cappuccinos and freshly made lemon poppy seed muffins (divine). I bought two bags of coffee beans, their Cerrado and Mutana beans. It was so relaxing drinking coffee whilst enjoying the warm Winter sun. After Ground Coffee House we stopped in Merrivale to look at Stanley’s Trading Co. (I found a beautiful Corningware dish here before) and then visited the Merrivale SPCA. Nothing to buy this time so we got back on the freeway to Mooi River. It was just after 3pm when we arrived at Midlands Saddle & Trout. After a quick check in we had a delicious cup of butternut soup that was available for guests at reception. We then drove to our unit and unpacked our food and clothes. The units are all self-catering

but there is a restaurant on site if you don’t feel like cooking. I also placed the wood in the fire place so that it was ready for the evening fire. After wrapping up warmly we took a walk to the restaurant so that we could have a cappuccino. Midlands Saddle & Trout restaurant is supplied by Skyline Coffee. We relaxed on comfortable chairs in the corner of the room and slowly sipped our cappuccinos. Then we made our way back to our unit and had a relaxing evening watching TV and enjoying the warmth of the fire. The best thing about staying at Midlands Saddle & Trout are the
Coffee stop glorious sunrises. Sitting outside on the veranda wrapped in a warm blanket and clutching a mug of coffee while waiting for the sun to appear on the horizon is magical. Tuesday’s sunrise was over a valley completely covered in mist. We had to wait for the mist to clear before we could drive through Mooi River and then onto Nottingham Road. First visit of Tuesday was to The Collective, which is a fascinating second hand/vintage store come coffee shop at the Junction in Nottingham Road. We spent at least a half an hour looking at all the furniture and other bric a brac. I bought a Consol glass jar filled with coffee beans before we left. After deciding where to go to next , we then drove

Then it was a short drive to Piggly Wiggly. I bought 2 x room sprays from The Lavender Co., 2 x bottles of chili sauce (for husband) from The Pantry, a humerous book from Huddy’s Books and then went to collect the leather knife roll that I won through Cookin about a month ago. If you have never visited Piggly Wiggly before, you must add them to your list for the Midlands Meander.
It was now late afternoon so we headed back to our cosy unit at Midlands Saddle & Trout. We managed to get back before the sun set, so we took a walk down to the stables to see the horses.
By this time we were feeling rather hungry and our choice for lunch was at the Bistro at the beautiful Granny Mouse Country House & Spa. It was so hard trying to decide what we would like to eat. I was in a pasta mood so I finally decided on Pulled Lamb Tagliatelle and Mom was in a fish mood and she decided to order the Fish of the Day which was Sole. As always the dishes were beautifully
Wednesday morning sunrise – only half the valley was misty. After waiting for the mist to clear from the valley we again drove the back route to reach Nottingham Road. First on our list was a visit to the newly opened Midlands branch of Craig Charity’s Lineage Coffee. What a fabulous building and sweet little centre with some very interesting shops. The centre has been there for many years but the Lineage Coffee building is new and the centre has been re branded as Coffee & Life. I was surprised to find Craig there and
it was great to have a short chat with him. We found a comfortable couch and enjoyed our superb cappuccinos made by Mfana who is now based at the new shop. I only planned for us to have coffee and blueberry cheesecake (signature dish) at Blueberry Cafe but by the time we reached the cafe we were feeling very hungry. We were both very keen to have the soup but were extremely disappointed to find that the menu had been changed and there was no more soup! We settled on toasted chicken & mayonnaise sandwiches and they were delicious. The blueberry cheesecake was divine as always and the cafe is such a lovely place to sit and enjoy the scenery. I have always driven past Fordoun Hotel & Spa, but not this time. We decided to go have a look before heading back to Midlands Saddle & Trout. The property used to be a Dairy – the reception and restaurant was the managers house and the dairy itself was converted into an indoor heated swimming pool. We were also given a guided tour of their incredible looking Spa. All the buildings have beautiful stonework. Fordoun is so tranquil and peaceful and I just love the avenue of trees when you enter and exit the property. Thursday morning sunrise with no mist but a lot of frost. We decided to spend the day at Midlands Saddle & Trout and we walked over to the shop just before 10am so that I could pay for a horse ride for 12pm. After paying we went over to the restaurant for tea/coffee and biscuits. So relaxing to sit outside in the warm Winter sun. Then back to the unit so that I could change for riding. I was given a beautiful big horse called Commando to ride. He was big because he was a Thoroughbred x Clydesdale. My guide was Nathi and he told me that the resort has 42 horses and they even train horses for other resorts. Definitely the best looking horses that I have ever seen at any resort and he told me that the resort has 42 horses and they even

No mist again but there was a bit of frost We packed up, checked out (very sadly) and got straight on the freeway, as we had a few more stops to make before heading home. We took the Curry’s Post turn off and drove past Terbodore and then parked outside the little church of St. Paul’s.
STEAMPUNK “We drove down to Steampunk coffee in Lion’s River. My husband’s request was for a large bag of their coffee beans. I bought 1,5kg of their Zephyr blend and two cappuccinos which we enjoyed drinking whilst people watching.“
After taking a walk around the church (hoping one day that we can see inside) we drove just down the road to the Old Halliwell Country Inn. Mom had never visited before but I had been there on a snow day with the family a few years ago. We sat on the veranda and enjoyed divine scones with jam and cream, a cappuccino (for me) and Earl Grey tea (for Mom). So ended our fabulous Midlands Meander. Nicola Meyer for DRIV3R.world

AMG GT R PRO
At its debut four years ago, the AMG GT confidently sought out competition on the world-wide sports car scene - and conquered a large part of the market. The top athlete from Affalterbach now comes to the starting line honed further, and with the new limited edition AMG GT R PRO. The new limited-edition top-of-the-range model AMG GT R PRO is characterised by yet further improved driving dynamics, in particular on the racetrack. The experience from the AMG GT3 and AMG GT4 racing cars entered into the development. The measures from motorsport can be clustered in four areas: suspension, lightweight construction, aerodynamics and looks. The special status is also underscored by the car wrap with racing stripes running over the bonnet, roof and hatch as well as along the sides of the vehicle. This car wrap is light green exclusively in combination with the selenite grey paint finish. For all other colour variants, the stripes come in dark-grey matt. Optionally, the car wrap can also be omitted completely. The AMG GT R PRO was modified in numerous details to deliver even more racetrack performance: The optimised specific power, the new suspension, the aerodynamic fine-tuning resulting in even more downforce overall, lightweight-design bucket seats and lightweight-design wheels contribute to the enhanced driving dynamics and faster lap times on the racetrack. The AMG GT R PRO does not only drive like a racing car, it also looks the part. The standard-fit Carbon Package
with front splitter, fins in the wings, trim strips in the side sills and a diffuser with high-quality clear-coated carbonfibre finish emphasise the proximity to motorsport, as does the redesigned carbon-fibre roof with lowered centre. Even before the world premiere, the new AMG GT R PRO had impressively demonstrated its performance potential on the racetrack: In early November, AMG brand ambassador and AMG GT3 racing driver Maro Engel completed a circuit of the Nürburgring North Loop in exactly 7.04.632 minutes driving a still disguised AMG GT R PRO. This considerably bettered the previous time for the AMG GT R – and at an autumnal ambient temperature of 12 degrees, it demonstrated the great potential of the current AMG flagship model. “The agile responses to all driver commands and the overall performance now deliver even more of that incomparable feeling that our racing drivers experience on the track”, says Tobias Moers, Chairman of the Management Board of Mercedes-AMG. The driver gets a very authentic driving feel with high cornering dynamics and optimum traction as well as high stability and predictable handling. Even experienced drivers receive optimum assistance without feeling patronised by the system. Based on the pilot-control principle it is possible to anticipate the vehicle behaviour on the basis of the driver’s actions and the data from the sensors. The control system reacts in this way even before the driver – and with no noticeable or intervention of the system. Source: Daimler

Movie review
Bumblebee is the latest installment to the Transformers film franchise, and prequel to the 2007 Transformers film. As fans of Transformers and lovers of all things Autobot or Decepticon, DRIV3R.world could not wait to visit the cinema, grab a popcorn and immerse ourselves into Bumblebee. First known as B-127, the yellow Autobot (voiced by Dylan O’Brien) lands on earth seeking refuge for the Autobots after fleeing from Cybertron, from the war between the Decepticons and the Autobots. Once landing on earth in 1987, B-127 encounters sector 7 which sees him as hostile and transforms into a yellow 1967 Volkswagen Beetle. After escaping and successfully hiding B-127 meets and befriends 18 year old Charlie Watson (Haliee Steinfeld), whom names B-127, Bumblebee. Decepticons soon find out that Bumblebee is on Earth. Upon arrival the decepticons form an alliance with sector 7 in order to use their equipment to find Bumblebee. Together Charlie and Bumblebee then fight to protect earth from the decepticons and from sector 7, trying to capture bumblebee. Overall the movie had a good plot and the action scenes were captivating. However, the fact that Bumblebee did not connect properly to the first film Transformers, was rather disappointing leaving plot holes in its path and enthusiats rather upset. Still, we recommend you emmerse yourself into the world of robots once again...

The vintage BR-X1 R.S.18 is an invitation to get behind the wheel of a racing car and experience the extreme sensation felt by the driver, for whom a watch is not only a tool, but also an ally at each and every moment of the race. This model immerses us in the world of motor racing adopting Formula One racing codes. It features a 41 mm case in satin-finished steel, a carbon fibre dial in black and yellow in reference to the colors of the Renault Sport Formula One team. The BR-X1 R.S.18 has a yellow internal minute track and two counters, one in red for optimal legibility of the chronograph function. This complication, invented to measure short periods of time, is the king of motor sports functions, since it enables the performance of vehicles on the track to be measured with great accuracy. The bezel also features a tachymeter scale which allows a car’s speed to be instantly calculated over a given distance. This chronograph model evokes the sporting world of race tracks and paddocks, with its numerals adopting the typography used for the Renault Sport Formula One team. It is powered by a Swiss mechanical caliber with automatic winding. The sapphire case-back bears a metallized depiction of the Renault car and its serial number. DRIV3R.world was enabled by Bellagio Jewellers to feature this incredible timepiece that has been created in the love of Formula One.

Game review Need for Speed Payback is a prime example of the apple not falling far from the tree. Need for speed (2015) did not live up to the fans' high expectations of EA's 23 year old racing series and its successor, Need for Speed Payback, just like it's big brother, is a bitter tale of disappointed hopes. Payback has managed to repair and fix all the flaws that came with its predecessor. For example, NFS (2015) gave us a short and unsweetened story with almost no extra activities to do around the map. The world was almost empty and the pause menu didn't even pause the gameplay. Payback has managed to redeem itself in these areas of concern. The graphics have improved and now you can actually pause the game, revolutionary right? Need for Speed Payback introduced us to the new way of upgrading your car using "Speed Cards" which have attributes that improve different parts of your car depending on the card you received. This is where EA took a gamble with an idea and lost hugely. This system is completely based on luck because you as the player don't get to choose what attributes you receive on each card. It all depends on the slot machine from which you can receive cards or the tune up shop from where you can find overpriced cards that never fit your needs.
So when you’re wondering why your car is flying down the straights but takes corners like a tractor does, you know what to blame. The old system of individually upgrading certain parts of your car to fit how you want it to feel was perfect and there was no need for a change. One of the reasons as to why Need For Speed is a fan favorite is its ability to make you feel like a rebel. Creating unrealistic, enjoyable cop chases and escaping them in free roam gives you that satisfaction that you will unfortunately never experience in this game as there are no cops in free roam. On the bright side, at least they’re in the missions. I found myself mainly using cars that I acquired in the early stages of the game. The reason for this is because when a new car is bought, it is like essentially starting the game again. Grinding through races I have already completed to unlock speed cards to pamper it to a competitive level is a bit time consuming. Through all these imperfections and flaws I still managed to enjoy the racing aspect and I must say , Need for Speed still does give you that phenomenal street racing experience it is known for that you wouldn’t find anywhere else... IS CHARLES LECLERC THE NEXT F1 CHAMPION? Leclerc fell in a love with karting at the mere age of three. From there onwards he became the French Champion in 2009. In 2010 he then won the Monaco Kart Cup, and the CIK-FIA Academy Trophy. In 2011 he won the Junior World Cup. Leclerc continued to produce outstanding results until 2013. In 2014 Leclerc was a top rookie in Formula Renault in his first season as well in Formula 3. Charles then raised the bar for himself when he won the the 2016 GP3 Series, as well as dominating the 2017 season of FIA Formula 2. Leclerc joined the Ferrari Driver Academy in 2016 and made his Formula 1 debut by driving for Alfa Romeo Sauber team. After having an outstanding first year in Formula 1, he was chosen in 2019 to drive for Ferrari along side 4 time world champion, Sebastian Vettel. 2019 SEASON: The 2019 season of Formula 1 has kicked off, and we are already a few races in and Charles Leclerc is showing promising signs of becoming the 2019 season champion. It was in the second race of the season, in Bahrain where Leclerc showed outstanding results. Dominating practice 1 and 3, and qualifying on pole. Making it Leclerc’s first pole in Formula 1. RACE DAY: Leclerc did not have the best start losing first position to his teammate and dropping on to third. By lap 38/57 Leclerc found himself back into first place and remained there. In an unfortunate turn of events for Leclerc in lap 46, his car had an engine problem which caused him to become a “sitting duck” as Hamilton in second and Bottas in third overtook him. However Leclerc still managed to finish in third, making it his first podium in Formula 1. Leclerc also had the fastest lap of 1:33:411, which gained him an additional point to the 16 he received for third place. If not for the engine problem it looked like Leclerc would have finished on pole and been the second youngest pole winner. This surely looks like a new Formula 1 champion in the making.

Dealership showcase
The SMG Collection The SMG story started in 2003 when Sean McCarthy made the bold but calculated decision to break away from McCarthy Retail Limited with the intent to create his own dealership group. And now, 16 years later The Sean McCarthy Group (SMG) has a network of 15 branches, representing BMW, MINI, Jaguar, Land Rover and Toyota, and 4 Approved Repair Centres situated across KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape.
the dealership is about, they also provide premium preowned cars and even a few classic models. Now in 2019 SMG Collection has matured into its own exclusive indoor showroom situated in the hub of Umhlanga Rocks directly above our very well know SMG Rocks dealership. Come in and have a look at the beautiful cars they have to offer and enjoy a refreshing cappuccino or latte with one of their sales executives. There is always something new and exciting on display here, like a custom 1000hp Supercharged SMG Collection began in 2008 and started off as a BMW M3 that you can spend hours just staring at. showroom within a showroom in SMG BMW Durban above their Used Car Showroom floor. It grew and truly flourished into a brand of its own and in 2013 when SMG built and opened their first Jaguar Land Rover Dealership in Hillcrest SMG Collection really started to show itself. With the leadership of a skilled mentor, Aseed Mthini, the brand developed into something spectacular and in 2015 when SMG acquired the BMW Umhlanga franchise Aseed and his team moved in and it did not take them very long to remind everyone about SMG Collection. With high end sports and luxury cars from Rolls Royce, Bentley, McLaren’s and Ferrari’s being sold from the showroom on a monthly basis it was becoming apparent that there was a new big player in the game when it came to these kind of cars, SMG Collection. But this is not all that
Passion and dedication have always been key concepts in the SMG culture and this is no different at SMG Collection where they have created a welcome atmosphere with a premium touch. Have they filled a gap in the market...? or created something unique... at DRIV3R.world we think the latter. Well done SMG Collection !!! Luke Sander for DRIV3R.world

Collectables for sale Not many can make a car as iconic as the BMW M3 more special. A few got it right, AC Schnitzer and Hartge were among the European favourites. In South Africa Rob Green Motorsport or RGM as they are fondly known nailed it! This 2009 E90 M3 is one of the very few that received the full blown RGM treatment. This car is not for the fainthearted! Its’ race car looks emphasised by massively flared wheel arches and additional air intakes are matched by a supercharged V8 monster of an engine, producing 1000bhp,

Forget car of the year, the original Beetle was car of the century! No car looked liked it before 1938 and no car has looked like it since production finally stopped in 2003. The last 10 years has seen values of these cars steadily go up and at DRIV3R.world we think this is only the start.
1974, VOLKSWAGEN, BEETLE 1600cc 131,000KM, R79,990
This particular example has been resprayed to reflect the fun personality of this car. Together with the Beetles unique engine sound, a light weight body and manual gearbox, it is well worth having some fun with. Even more so if you fancy a punt on this cute car being worth its’ weight in gold in the next 10 years. Maybe if you’re lucky, it could turn out to be the real Herbie under the skin. Available at The SMG Collection
Footballer’s wives know a lot about fashion.... Even fashion in cars. They also often chose Range Rover as their daily drivers and will tell you that one of the best ways to accessorize the already sexy Range Rover Sport is to dress it up with improved aerodynamics courtesy of a body kit from Lumma.

Getting your hands on a pre-owned example with the Lumma treatment in South Africa is not easy. The boys at SMG Collection currently have this one available and we thought it worthy of being highlighted in this mini review. If you like Louis Vuitton and Armani this may just be the car for you.
