Happy Anniversary! By Heather Baker

This time last year, I was “running on fumes” as the saying goes. We had just finished up our first issue of Drive Arkansas and the weeks of preparation had me, and my team, worn out! It had always been a dream of mine to start my own automotive magazine. I took a leap of faith toward my dream in 2012 and haven’t looked back. This year has certainly had its ups and downs but I wake up every day knowing I have accomplished my dream and I get to work with some of the greatest folks in the automotive industry. It wasn’t a pretty start though, I have to be honest. Leading up to our premier issue, my team and I would pack into my home office, each with a laptop, and necessary caffeinated beverage and get it all going. After many Sonic Happy Hour runs, and many (too many)

packs of Nerds candies later, we sent 52 pages of ads to the printer. Now, 52 weeks later, Drive Arkansas is still alive and kicking in Central Arkansas. We are so grateful to our clients and readers for supporting us and I look forward to many, many more anniversaries in the future! A Year in the Rear View Well we have made it! Arkansas Jeep Owners Society has been together for just over a year now! And what an INCREDIBLE year it has been! Here are just a few of the highlights from events we have shared over the past year. First the Meet and Greets. These small get togethers where we meet at Steve Landers Jeep in West Little Rock, have proved to be a crucial part of our club! This is where we get together for a couple of hours and really get to know each other and meet new members as they venture out to see what we are all about. We have learned several mods including poly filling the soundbar, turning your side marker lights into blinkers, how to install lights and winches, and many more. We have also demonstrated the proper ways to get ready for the trails, and how to attack obstacles the correct way. These have also been useful as a trouble shooting opportunity, for issues some members were having, as well as group planning meetings. Top Jeep. This was one of the biggest highlights of the year! We brought out over a 100 Jeeps to compete in an offroad course and learn winch and recovery tactics. Plus everyone competed in a HUGE Show and shine, and we gave away TONS of really cool prizes! It was also a chance for us to give back, and part of the proceeds were donated to Arkansas Children’s Hospital. Toys for Tots. After battling the weather, we still were able to get about 30 families together and come out with their Jeeps loaded down with toys, and roll over to Toy Hill and help the Marines and local Dodge dealers make sure that some children had an amazing Christmas that otherwise would not have. Finally the Trail Rides! This is what it’s all about. Every month we have grown and taken more and more families out and taught them what their Jeep is capable of and how to use it properly off road. It’s amazing to see how families from all walks of life come together at these events, have a great time, and suddenly become friends that will be in each others lives for years to come. One of the biggest joys for me, is seeing a new family come out in a bone stock Jeep and not have a clue what they are in for, then white knuckle it through a couple of trails, and watch them get HOOKED on the Jeep way of life! It truly is amazing.
