Traditionally the Bikini Top has been the “go to” accessory for shade, and still works really well. However it does require a little extra work to put on. Most all bikini tops require some sort of header bar that must be mounted to the windshield frame above the sunvisors and then has Velcro straps that wrap around the roll bars. They also completely block all light and weather (just like a soft top) and run about $120-$170 depending on which one you purchase. The Spyder shade, however is a material best described as a trampoline type material, that blocks the UV and heat from the sun, but still lets you see through it and maintains that open air feel. These tops are made to go on with no additional hardware and are available in about 10 different colors, and come with bungee straps that wrap around the roll bar and can be left mounted under hard and soft tops. These things can be installed or removed in less than a minute, and for a 4 door JK run about $100. Trail Doors If you are like me, and have children, you are always a little skeptical to run around town with now doors. Trail doors slide into your factory door mounts and can latch or lock depending on which model you get, and provide a little more protection for your family. Most are simple tube doors that are nothing more than a tube frame, but some newer models are true half doors with full inner and outer door skins. (in other words, looks like you took a full factory door and cut it in half.) Trail doors are available in several styles and start about $300 per pair. Mirrors Once you remove the doors, you loose your factory side mirrors. It is an Arkansas State Law that every vehicle must have side mirrors. There are several different style aftermarket mirrors that simply bolt on and work well and have a starting price of $50 a pair. But another option for JK owners that is very cheap and effective, is going to an auto parts store or walmart and find some little 1” round mirrors with double sided tape on the back, ($2.00) and peel the tape and stick them on the round AC vents on either side of your dash, and … your legal! And they work!! These are just a few of the bigger things you might want to take a look at now, before the warmer weather gets here to stay!
