Dear Reader, What a special July we had with the return of Kenya’s most famous son, the President of the United States of America, Barack Obama. This occasion provided us Kenyans with a reason to celebrate as Obama’s visit signified the normalization of ties with the West, a sign of the continued progress that Kenya is making. The talks were centered on trade, not aid, at the Global Entrepreneurship Summit, which we are excited about as we look forward to see what our countries budding entrepreneurs have to show us in the coming years ahead. The Drive Kenya team decided to take a closer look at the US leader’s Presidential limo - The Beast, as it is affectionately known. This vehicle is a remarkable feat of engineering and is essentially a White House on wheels! It generated quite a stir when it was being driven on the remarkably quiet and empty streets of Nairobi. In the drool factor this month, we are showcasing the Tesla Model S. This vehicle, according to us, is the future of automobiles, being all electric and powered by clean energy (hopefully). It’s a remarkable vehicle that has pushed the boundaries of electric car design & performance. It is beautiful to look at, futuristic and performs incredibly well, the sort of stuff that we really like! In the fast lane this month we are enthused about the Moto Guzzi Eldorado. This is one beautiful bike! Moto Guzzi’s are a boutique manufacturer with a rich history of producing unique machines. In the technical take we zoom in on and explain the alternator, while the Kenya Car Guy continues with his explanation on Engine oils from the previous month, alongside a deeper explanaton of your car battery and what they mean for you. Our safety expert, Uncle Bob, writes about what to do with your child safety seats in the event of an accident. Rounding it out is the local & international motoring news & Motorsports results - MotoGP, F1 & Rallying. We hope you enjoy the ride & do support our advertising partners who make this beautiful magazine possible! Wishing you well, Drive Kenya Team.

Tesla Unveils “Ludicrous Mode”
Fiat Chrysler Recalls 1.4 Million Vehicles after Wired Jeep Hack Story
‘Zero to 60 miles per hour (97km/h) in 2.8 seconds.’ That’s what the upgrade package for the Tesla Model S does. That puts it in the same league as a Lamborghini Murcielago. Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla, the world leader in electric sports cars, said on unveiling the new upgrades, “People have loved insane mode. It’s been extremely well-received. It’s incredible fun! It’s like having your own private rollercoaster!” he added. The acceleration on the vehicle is officially 1.1G, which Musk added was, “faster than falling”.
In the biggest car news story, Chrysler announced on 24 July 2015, that it was ‘recalling’ a staggering 1.4 million vehicles for a software update that may be vulnerable to hackers. In the ‘recall’, owners will be sent a USB drive with a software update that they can then install through the port, on their vehicle’s dashboard to protect against hacking. The reason Chrysler did so, was after WIRED magazine broke an exclusive and frightening story, on how Chrysler cars can be hacked wirelessly. Charlie Miller and Chris Valasek were the two hackers described in the WIRED story as the author and guinea pig of that story. Andy Greenberg wrote, “As the two hackers remotely toyed with the air-conditioning, radio and windshield wipers, I mentally congratulated myself on my courage under pressure. That’s when they cut the transmission. Immediately, my accelerator stopped working. As I frantically pressed the pedal and watched the RPMs climb, the Jeep lost half its speed, and slowed to a crawl. This occurred just as I reached a long overpass, with no shoulder to offer an escape. The experiment had ceased to be fun.”
Musk also revealed that Tesla is heavily investing in the R&D of self driving software, alongside automobile company, Daimler and tech-giant, Google.
Jaguar Land Rover Executive Rejects Driverless Cars Wolfgang Epple, the head of JLR research and development, has argued that the company will not develop vehicles that completely eliminate the driver’s role. “We don’t consider customers cargo,” the executive recently told reporters, as quoted by Automotive News. “We don’t want to build a robot that delivers the cargo from A to B. People want to use the emotional side of the brain and autonomous driving does not generate that experience,” he added.
Further along in the story he writes, “Miller and Valasek’s full arsenal includes functions that, at lower speeds, fully kill the engine, abruptly engage the brakes, or disable them altogether. The most disturbing maneuver came when they cut the Jeep’s brakes, leaving me frantically pumping the pedal. as the 2-ton SUV slid uncontrollably into a ditch. The researchers say they are working on perfecting their steering control—for now they can only hijack the wheel when the Jeep is in reverse. Their hack enables surveillance too. They can track a targeted Jeep’s GPS coordinates, measure its speed, and even drop pins on a map to trace its route.” This is pretty stunning news for an auto industry that is looking to integrate greater and greater connectivity into the automobile.

Safety First! After a Crash By Uncle Bob In the unfortunate circumstance that your car is involved in an accident, the inevitable question that follows is what do you do with a car seat after a crash?
Can I keep using my car seat after a car crash? Probably not. Crash forces are extreme; they’re strong enough to bend the steel frame of the car, and can easily damage a car seat too. Even though you may not be able to see the damage, the plastic in the car seat could be weakened by these crash forces and may not protect the child properly in a 2nd crash. But my child wasn’t in the seat, do I still need to replace it? YES. The car seat will still take some of the crash forces even when a child is not in the seat. Therefore, if the manufacturer says to replace the seat, it should be replaced regardless of whether the child was or was not in the seat.
Someone tapped my bumper in the parking lot… do I still need to replace the car seat? Minor taps in a parking lot – which typically don’t even damage the fragile bumper of the car – are likely not going to damage the car seat either. If you need to replace your car seat, remember: Most insurance companies will reimburse you for the new seats. You will likely need to show them the receipt for the new seat. If the insurance company has “trouble remembering” that they’re supposed to cover the replacement of the car seats, show them the instruction manual to your child’s car seat where it states that the seat should not be reused after a crash. If you don’t have the instruction manual, you can usually download one online or call the company and have them email you one. You are not required to replace the crashed car seat with the same exact model. For example, if your child was just about to outgrow his infant seat, you could replace the crashed infant seat with a convertible seat.
Can I recycle the car seat? Depending on where you live, recycling the car seat may be as simple as putting it out with the rest of your curbside recycling. See here to learn more (http://recycleyourcarseat. org/wheredoirecyclemyseat/) about ways to recycle a car seat. If there is textile recycling in your locale, they may accept the fabric cover. Others have repurposed the covers as dog/cat beds and the straps for carrying firewood. If recycling is not an option, make sure to take the seat apart in a way that no one will pick it up out of the trash and try to reuse it. Remove all the fabric, foam, and straps – and throw them away separately. Using a permanent marker, write on the plastic shell of the car seat “NOT SAFE. DO NOT USE”.
What do the car seat manufacturers say? Only a handful of manufacturers allow you to reuse the seat after a crash, and, among those that allow reuse, there are caveats. Please carefully check your car seat instruction manual to see what the manufacturer has to say on this subject. About the author: Uncle Bob is Kenya’s leading child safety expert and has been working with Parents’ to ensure that children who travel in cars are safely secured in an appropriate car seat. Uncle Bob also trains parents on how to properly install and use their childrens’ car seats.

Technical Corner Alternator An alternator is a vital component of your car’s electrical charging system, it is the generator of electric power when your engine is running and it charges the vehicle’s battery as a result. It also provides supplemental power to the electrical system within the car. An alternator is attached to the engine via the drive belt, and is largely a maintenance free unit, that is supposed to last about 10 years. If an alternator fails, the car will run on battery power, but as soon as the charge is depleted, the car will cease to function. A typical alternator has two windings, the first is known as the rotor (rotating inner winding), and the second is known as the stator (stationary outside winding). The voltage is carried through the voltage regulator to the rotor winding, which energizes it and turns it into a magnet. The rotor is subsequently revolved by the engine via the aforementioned drive belt. The magnetic field generated by the revolving rotor induces an alternating current (AC) in the standstill stator winding. Diodes are then used to convert the alternating current into the direct current (DC) that is used in the car’s electrical system. The output voltage is then
6 DRIVEKENYA.CO.KE | AUGUST/SEPTEMBER 2015
regulated by the in-built voltage regulator, typically at 12V. The most common causes of alternator failure include worn carbon brushes, worn contact rings, a damaged voltage regulator and bad inner & outer bearings. Alternators may fail prematurely, when an engine undercover or shield is damaged or missing in action. As a result, dust and water from the environment can get inside the alternator and cause it to wear faster. A coolant or oil leak can also cause harm to the alternator’s functioning. The most frequent warning sign of a failing alternator is the red battery-shaped icon warning light. Normally, this light comes on when you turn the ignition key and disappears as soon as the engine is started. If it stays on, there could be a problem with the alternator or the battery. Sometimes, when the alternator is failing, you might notice that your car’s headlights and dashboard lights become dim at idle rev, but get brighter at higher revs. When you notice this, it is best to let your mechanic do further testing.
Each month, our car guy gives you solutions to the problems you face with your car.
Mobile: +254 733 666 597 - E-mail: info@kenyacarguy.com In a follow up to last months write-up on en-gine oils, the Kenya Car Guy got the following question sent in by a reader: Q) What do the different numbers on the oil containers mean? There are many numbers on the oil bottles found at most fueling stations. Letters and numbers such as SAE 40, AP, 5W40, 10W30 are the type of letters and numbers commonly seen. They refer to oil viscosity, based on a scale established by the Society of Automotive Engineers (which is where the “SAE” comes from). The scale rates oil from a low of 5 to a high of 50. As you have probably noticed, most automobile motor oils have two numbers. These are multi-grade oils. The first number describes viscosity at low temperatures. The second number refers to viscosity at normal engine operating temperatures. For example, the “5” in a 5W30 motor oil will protect an engine, down to an air temperature of about 25 degrees Fahrenheit. The “10” in a 10W30 is good if the lowest temperature where you live, is likely to be in the neighborhood of 10 or so. As for the “30,” that is well-suited for the typical temperatures that most cars operate these days. If you are driving a racing car, or pulling a heavy trailer on a hot summer day, you might want the higher-temperature protection afforded by motor oil with a second number of, say, 50. (As for the “W,” it indicates that the oil is designed to work well in cold weather). We then asked KCG to write about the Bat-tery, as it corresponds well with our Tech-nical Take on the Alternator. He responded below. Electrical systems in today’s cars are just as important as the engine and gearbox. At the heart of the electrical system, is the battery of a car. The automotive battery does not actually store electricity, as is often believed. It converts electrical energy to chemical energy, which is stored until the battery is connected
to an external circuit. The stored chemical energy is then converted back to electrical energy, which flows from one battery terminal, through the circuit, and back to the other battery terminal. The primary functions of the automotive battery include; operation of the starter motor, provide current to the ignition system during cranking, supply power to the accessories and electrical accessories, when the engine is not operating, act as a voltage stabilizer for the complete electrical system and to provide electrical current, when the electrical demand exceeds the output of the charging system. All automotive wet-cell batteries operate because of the chemical action of two dissimilar metals in the presence of a conductive and reactive solution, called the electrolyte, because this chemical reaction that produces electricity, is called an electrochemical reaction. There are 4 main types of automotive batteries currently in use: Vent-cap (requires maintenance), Low maintenance (requires limited periodic maintenance), Maintenance free (requires no maintenance), Recombinant (requires no maintenance) The performance and life of any wet-cell is mostly affected by: • • • • • • •
Electrolyte level in the battery. Corrosion. Over charging. Undercharging and sulfating. Cycling. Temperature. Vibrations.
Classic Car VW Beetle The VW Beetle has earned its place in automotive legend. More than 21 Million of these naturally aspirated, twodoored, 4-passengered, rear-engined, rear wheeled drive cars, were produced and sold between the years 1938 and 2003. The need for this sort of a car was first visualized by Adolf Hitler who wished for a cheap, easy to maintain, mass produced car, suitable for traveling at sustained speeds of upto 100km/h on the road network of Germany, at the time. Porsche was contracted to build the Beetle in 1934 and Ferdinand Porsche’s team of engineers took until 1938 to finish working on it. Although designed by 1938, it was not until 1945, that significant numbers were mass produced. The Beetle was designed to be as mechanically simple as possible, with a flat-four cylinder engine, that was initially 995cc that
generated 25-hp. The suspension design used compact torsion bars instead of leaf or coil springs. Post WWII, the VW factory was to be dismantled and shipped over to Britain, under American de-industrialization plans for Germany, but interestingly, no British manufacturer was interested in the factory. The factory survived by producing cars for the British Army in the interim, until America changed its plan to reduce Germany to a ‘pastoral state’ around 1947. In later years, the Beetle was available in 1100 cc, 1200 cc, 1300 cc, 1500 cc and 1600 cc versions. Production for the Beetle subsequently surged and peaked in 1971 at 1.3 Million vehicles, while the last Beetle was produced in Puebla, Mexico, in July 2003. In the 1999 Car of the Century competition, the Beetle took the fourth position, overall.

Germany Germany’s Sachsenring hosted the ninth round of the MotoGP calendar. This circuit is favoured by Honda and defending World Champion, Marc Marquez, started from pole with Honda teammate Dani Pedrosa in second. This is how the race would finish as well, with a Honda one-two. At the start of the race though, it was Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo who took the lead at the first corner from the two Hondas. Valentino Rossi quickly overtook Ducati’s Andrea Iannone for fourth, and the battle between the Hondas and Yamahas had begun. The Hondas were fitted with hard tyres, while the Yamahas had gone with the asymmetric front tyres for the race.
few times, Rossi was clear of Lorenzo and set to challenge Marquez, a battle which never materialized. Meanwhile though, Pedrosa overtook Lorenzo on lap 10 and steadily closed in on Rossi, in the second place. With 12 laps to go, Pedrosa tucked under Rossi and fought valiantly to keep second place for the rest of the race. Marquez won by a time of 2.226 seconds at the checkered flag. It was a Honda one-two for the first time this year. “I am happy this weekend because we made first completely, and I am happy going into the holidays with this win, but we continue to work hard, as I want to be better for the second half of the championship,” spoke Marquez at the end of the race.
By lap 3, Marquez was at the heels of fellow Spaniard Lorenzo and smoothly overtook him, and in no time at all, had gained a significant distance at the front. Simultaneously, Rossi had caught Pedrosa and claimed third place and was challenging Lorenzo for second. After changing places a
Atop the leaderboard at the half-way stage, still sits Italian legend, Valentino Rossi, who now has a 13 point overall lead over teammate, Jorge Lorenzo, who is 2nd overall in the championship standings.

British F1 The race results were predictable, but the race certainly wasn’t. It was a thriller in the British summer! With a Mercedes one-two finish, Lewis Hamilton secured his fifth win of the F1 season and the third British Grand Prix victory of his career, while teammate and championship rival, Nico Rosberg, scored a second place finish. Hamilton now extends his lead atop the leadership standings to 17 points. The race got off to a dramatic start when the Williams duo of Felipe Massa and Valterri Bottas swept past pole-sitter, Lewis Hamilton in the early moments of the race. Eager to get back to the first place, Hamilton stuck to the inside line and overtook Bottas for second place, at just the third corner on the 1st lap, before he locked his tyres and ran wide onto the grass, while challenging race-leader Massa. This left Hamilton in third place with the Williams duo, engaging in an exciting battle at the front. Hamilton bided his time and pitted on lap 19 for a fresh pair of tyres and subsequently set the fastest lap of the race with a blistering pace. Williams had to respond, Massa came in on lap 20 and Bottas came in on lap 21. By the time they rejoined the race, Hamilton had a clean track at the front. Hamilton looked to be cruising to victory, but the ever delightful British weather decided to join the fray, as the rain started to frolic with the circuit, causing Hamilton to go offcircuit at the 265km/h Copse corner. Hamilton and Rosberg, though, still decided to risk, staying on the faster dry-weather tyres as long as they could.
decisive victory over Rosberg, Massa and Bottas, who all pitted in the subsequent lap. At the end of the race Hamilton was quoted saying, “I think it’s the first time in my Formula One career that I made the perfect choice about coming in,” he explained. “I could see more rain coming. It was one of the trickiest races I’ve had here.” For Williams, the race got even more frustrating, as Massa and Bottas emerged from the pit lane. They were now, not only behind Rosberg, but also the Ferrari of Sebastien Vettel, who had pitted on the same lap as Hamilton and thus gained a significant track position, advantage to emerge third, overall. Massa was quoted as saying, “It could even have been possible to win the race if it had stayed dry, but it was a shame to have lost position in the rain.” After the checkered flag, 140,000 British fans celebrated by waving flags, banners and paying homage to Hamilton.
On lap 43, Hamilton decided to make a pitstop for a fresh pair of intermediate tyres (used in wet conditions). It was perfectly timed and executed, as it set him up for a clear and

“Merci Jules, c’est a toi,” spoke Sebastien Vettel in remembrance of his late French colleague Jules Bianchi after his victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix. He also added, “Thank you Jules, you will always be in our hearts; this win is for you.” The race itself began with an emotional tribute, where the F1 drivers formed a circle and paid tribute to the late Bianchi with a minute of silence. Bianchi, a former Ferrari academy driver, died July 17th this year, from injuries he had incurred when he had collided with a recovery vehicle in a torrential downpour at last October’s Japanese F1 race. The race, in fitting tribute, was ferocious, and broke the mold of recent Mercedes one-two wins. Mercedes infact, didn’t feature on the podium for the first time this season. Ferrari’s Vettel was blazing quick and drove tenaciously in a dominating performance for his second win of the season and the 41st of his illustrious career, to equal the late Ayrton Senna. “I left it all on the track today. I gave it everything and I owe my race to Jules. I gained extra strength today and I owe that to him,” spoke Vettel, in an emotional tribute at the end of the race. Red Bull’s 21-year old Russian driver, Daniil Kvyat, finished in second for the first podium of his career. The race began with Lewis Hamilton on pole and Rosberg on second, but Vettel surged along with teammate Kimi Raikkonen, to sweep past both on just the first lap. Hamilton was down to fourth on just the 1st lap and afterwards attempted to pass Rosberg and ran wide across a gravel trap at the chicane, which left him even further down in tenth place. From there on, he did make a challenge for it and made it all the way to fourth by lap 30. At the halfway stage, it was Vettel, Raikkonen & Rosberg in the top 3 spots before 20 DRIVEKENYA.CO.KE | AUGUST/SEPTEMBER 2015
Raikkonen suffered more bad luck and lost power in his car, which forced him to slow down before eventually retiring on lap 53. Thereafter, India driver, Hulkenberg, lost his front wing on the straight and crashed directly into the barriers at Turn One, in a scary incident on lap 43. A virtual safety car was deployed immediately. Following this, Rosberg and Hamilton pitted for harder medium tyres in an attempt to retake the lead. On lap 49, Rosberg challenged and overtook Raikkonen for second, while Hamilton struggled against Red Bull’s Ricciardo, who was on softer tyres and subsequently, collided with him on turn one and in the process, lost his front wing end-plate. Hamilton later pitted on lap 52 for a new front wing and re-joined in 13th and was given a drive through penalty for the incident. He eventually finished in sixth, while teammate Rosberg, who was second, suffered a late puncture to drop to eighth overall, while he was battling Red Bull’s Ricciardo, who was just behind him, in third. The two collided on lap 64, as Ricciardo was attempting to overtake Rosberg, forcing both into the pits. This allowed Red Bull’s Daniil Kvyat to emerge in second position, while Ricciardo ended up finishing third, after changing his front-wing. Great Race!

WRC Poland Ogier nets back-to-back Poland wins!
start to my holiday.”
Sébastien Ogier repelled team-mate Andreas Mikkelsen’s fierce challenge to secure his second consecutive LOTOS Rally Poland victory on Sunday and net his fifth FIA World Rally Championship success in seven rounds.
Tänak, who led briefly on Friday afternoon, and Jari-Matti Latvala, fought tooth and nail for the final podium place. They started the last stage separated by 1.1sec, but the Estonian secured third in a Ford Fiesta RS, when Latvala hit a tree with a handful of kilometres left.
He won by 11.9sec after almost 300km of super-fast action in north-east Poland, leaving his Volkswagen team-mate still searching for his maiden victory. Ott Tänak equalled his career-best result in third, after Jari-Matti Latvala crashed in the final speed test. Ogier’s victory was achieved the hard way. As road opener for the first two legs, he was disadvantaged by cleaning gravel from the sandy tracks for most of the rally and had Mikkelsen breathing down his neck from the moment he took the lead on Friday afternoon. The Polo R duo were split by 2.1sec after the opening leg. Ogier had eked his advantage out to 5.6sec by last night and completed victory with a flourish today, by claiming maximum bonus points for winning the final live TV Power Stage. Blistering heat saw the thermometer top 33˚C, and tyre choice became decisive. Mikkelsen’s decision to opt for hard compounds on Saturday afternoon, gave him the best opportunity to overhaul Ogier, who chose softer rubber, but the Norwegian has hampered by hanging dust. “This year I’ve had many great wins, but this one is very special,” said Ogier. “For 90 per cent of the rally, I opened the road, so this is amazing! I had to push from the first metre to the last. I have a small break now and this is the perfect
The impact broke the radiator on his Polo R, and he worked furiously on the liaison section, after the stage to make repairs, to ensure he could drive to the finish (bottom). However, a 40sec penalty for checking in late, dropped him to fifth. The beneficiary was Hayden Paddon, who followed his stellar performance in Italy last month, with another great drive, to finish fourth in a Hyundai i20. He headed Latvala by 10.1sec with team-mate Thierry Neuville, completing the top six 19.8sec further back. Neuville rolled in the penultimate stage, but was quickly back on his wheels to finish ahead of Kris Meeke. The Ulsterman struggled for confidence after Thursday’s shakedown roll, but moved ahead of Robert Kubica, when the Pole punctured in the final stage. Mads Østberg surrendered second in the championship to Mikkelsen, after finishing ninth, while Dani Sordo completed the leaderboard. Latvala wins fastest WRC rally, ever!
Jari-Matti Latvala won the fastest event in FIA World Rally Championship history, when he claimed his third victory at Neste Oil Rally Finland on Sunday afternoon. The Finn triumphed in an event, affectionately known as the ‘Finnish Grand Prix’, at a remarkable average of 125.44kph, eclipsing the previous best of 122.89kph, set at the same rally in 2012 by Sébastien Loeb. Latvala headed Volkswagen Polo R team-mate, Sébastien Ogier, by 13.7sec after a thrilling duel over rollercoaster gravel roads, near Jyväskylä. The Win, his second of the season, and 14th of his career, promoted Latvala to second, in the championship behind Ogier. Ogier and Kris Meeke, both led before Latvala, moved to the front midway through Friday. Ogier refused to allow the Flying Finn to break clear, by more than a handful of seconds, and only when he took a chunk out of a wheel against a rock on Saturday afternoon, could Latvala breathe more easily. “This was one of the greatest drives of my life,” said a delighted Latvala, who was greeted at the end of the final stage by father Jari. “I’m proud to be a Finn today; I’ve had a tough season, but winning my home event, is like winning half a world championship.” “I’ve focused fully on this rally for three weeks! After my disappointment at the last round in Poland, I decided my 22 DRIVEKENYA.CO.KE | AUGUST/SEPTEMBER 2015
title hopes had gone and concentrated fully on preparing for Finland. It paid off today,” he added. Ogier, who took the maximum three bonus points by winning the final live TV Power Stage, extended his championship lead to 89 points and could clinch a third title at ADAC Rallye Deutschland later this month. “It was an amazing battle and the show we delivered this weekend, was fantastic for the sport. I have no problem being beaten by Jari-Matti when he is this strong!” he said. Citroën’s Mads Østberg secured his third podium of the season in third, 1min 23.1sec behind Ogier. The Norwegian inherited the place when team-mate Kris Meeke broke his car’s suspension yesterday, after hitting a tree. Thierry Neuville finished fourth in a Hyundai i20, a feat that seemed impossible shortly before Thursday’s start, when his team faced a race to rebuild the car, after the Belgian crashed heavily in the warm-up stage. Fifth went to Ott Tänak, who recovered well after driving most of Friday with a broken damper on his Ford Fiesta RS, after clipping a rock. Juho Hänninen completed the top six in another Fiesta RS. Martin Prokop was seventh and headed WRC 2 winner and runner-up Esapekka Lappi and Pontus Tidemand, with Lorenzo Bertelli taking his first point of the season in 10th. KCB Machakos Rally The flying Finn Tapio Laukkanen had a dominant performance at the KCB Machakos Rallt on Saturday, the 8th of August to register his third win of the 2015 KNRC season. Going into the race Laukkanen was the favourite and he didn’t disappoint his fans by setting the fastest stage times in nearly all the stage sections. Laukkanen has quickly gained recognition as one of the fastest drivers ever to set foot in Kenya. It was an even more impressive win when you consider that Laukkanen had a major gear transmission problem after one of the stages and was only able to use transmissions four and five on the gearbox. His service team managed to change the gearbox under twenty minutes and set the flying Finn on his way to victory. Carl Tundo, his Mitsubishi EvoX pictured above, ended his recent run of poor form and finished second overall by a margin of 10 seconds after pipping current KNRC champion Baldev Chager, who had a narrow lead of 2 seconds heading into the last stage of the competition. Chager, in his Mitsubishi Lancer, was on course to produce one of his best performances of the season but slid off-track in the final stage to hand Carl Tundo the second slot. Dennis Mwenda extended his lead in the Division One Class inspite of facing two separate punctures and a damaged brake pipe that considerably slowed his EvoX down. Rajbir Rai in the powerful Ford Fiesta suffered a broken differential in the fourth stage that saw him having to retire. Uganda’s Jas Mangat was also forced to retire early with his turbocharger failing.
In the overall standings Jaspreet Chatthe maintains his lead atop the leaderboard standings at 128.5 points after finishing in fourth. Laukkanen’s performance has seen him go upto 2nd place in the overall leadership standings at 83 points. With two rounds to go till the season end, there are 50 points up for grabs at the top! We are all set for an enthralling finish to this season.
