Welcome to the first edition of Bentley Moments. 2014 was an eventful year, which saw many changes. Not least an increase in the team at Cambridge from six to fifteen teammates, with a large proportion of the newbies joining the Aftersales team. This has been quickly rewarded with Bentley Cambridge being nominated twice and picking up a special achievement award at the Bentley National awards ceremony in London earlier this month, at the prestigious Rosewood Hotel. 2014 saw the successful launch of the GT3-R, V8 Flying Spur and the Continental V8 S. As we look forward, this year sees the launch of the Concourse and Black Editions of the Continental GT and GTC, and the stunning Mulsanne Speed, (now in our showroom).

2015 will see our biggest and most unique range of events ever, with some of the most iconic names, Orient Express, Jockey Club Rooms, Blades Aerobatic team, Broom Boats, Goodwood Festival of Speed and the Concourse of Elegance. Also in this magazine we have an interview with a very good friend of ours, Le Mans winner Guy Smith, who is looking forward to another great year with the GT3 racing team. We have a customer’s test drive review of Bentley’s fastest road car, the GTC speed, plus a host of great offers to celebrate our first edition.

BENTLEY CAMBRIDGE PRE-OWNED

Bentley Cambridge, creating miles of smiles. Bentley Cambridge are celebrating a hugely successful three year charitable partnership as they announce that the dealership, their affinity partners and clients have raised more than £56,000 for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH). This long-standing partnership has helped provide 24/7 care for more than 1,000 children, young people and their families. The valuable funds raised are being used to support families and care for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk. The children and young people EACH care for may have been born with a genetic disorder, have a problem with the development of one or more of their body’s systems, had an accident at birth or later in life, or suffer from cancer. The charity also provide specialist support to their families as often caring for a child with complex needs can be difficult for a parent, sibling or carer. The support offered by EACH is tailored to meet the needs of all family members and delivered where families wish – in their home, at hospital, in the community or at one of the charity’s three hospices in Ipswich, Milton and Quidenham. The money raised will have contributed towards the delivery of a wide range of services including short-break care, emotional and psychological support, care at end of life, and many activities and therapies.

Bentley Cambridge joined EACH as partners in 2012, the same year that HRH The Duchess of Cambridge became EACH’s Royal Patron. The Duchess’s support helps the charity increase the awareness and understanding of the full range of services offered to children and families, and celebrates the great work being done by all children’s hospices across the UK. The funds raised are not only providing vital care and support but also helping children and families smile and create happy memories. The charity provides special days, art and music therapy, days out at the zoo to name but a few! EACH rely on voluntary donations for the majority of our income and need to raise almost £6 million to deliver their services this year. £16,000 a day, every day of the year. EACH would like to thank Bentley Cambridge for their continued support and hope that their affiliated partners and clients will continue to support this charitable partnership.

From Beverley... Being part of a winning 24 Heures du Mans race team is no small achievement. Back in 2003 the top two cars were Bentley Speeds, driven to victory in the ultimate endurance race by Rinaldo Capello, Le Mans legend Tom Kristensen and Guy Smith. We first met Guy back in January 2012 when he helped us launch Bentley Cambridge. Since then not only has he become an official ambassador for Bentley but also become a friend of Bentley Cambridge and the Vindis Group.

up, as he was for most drivers from my era. I was lucky enough to meet him on a couple of occasions which was a dream come true.” But what would Guy have done, had his career not of been behind the wheel? “My family runs Swift Caravans. I would probably be on the line making caravans and trust me, you woudn’t want anything I had built!”

As the turn of the millennium approached, Guy moved into endurance racing. He competed in the American Le Mans series and was awarded the title of Le Mans 24 Hours It is fair to say from Guy’s upbringing that Rookie of the Year in 2000. His Bentley Debut racing was in his blood from a young age. His came in 2001, alongside Brundle and Ortelli dad’s passion for both rally driving and the for Team Bentley LMP but unfortunately had cars themselves brushed off on Guy and he to retire whilst sitting in third place. After soon followed in his dad’s footsteps. He began being a test driver for Team Bentley in 2002 driving go karts at the tender age of five, and he then moved on to what he still describes in 1986 began competing in karting. It wasn’t as his biggest success in racing. long before he found himself on the podium and one short year later he was crowned “Racing wise winning the American Le British Junior Karting, Protrain Junior Karting Mans series in 2011 was great but, obviously, and Scottish Open Karting champion. winning Le Mans is without doubt the biggest win of my career. Initially there is a feeling of His success continued to grow rapidly until relief but then a wave of excitement takes 1995 when the dream became real. Guy took over as you start to understand what has just to the famous Silverstone track to test drive happened. It was pretty surreal. Of course you for the Williams Formula One team. He was do all the work, the training and the testing influenced by one of the greatest racing drivers with that goal in mind but when it actually of all time; “Ayrton Senna was my hero growing happens it’s like you can’t believe it.

to Bentley. “But to win in a Bentley at Le Mans, it doesn’t get any better, with all the history of the Bentley boys and their success there. It’s fantastic.”

Guy drives high speed cars on a daily basis, but when he’s not out on the track, he has the same enthusiasm for unique Bentley craftsmanship. “I currently have a Continental GT V8 as my road car. It’s got so much Guy and his co-drivers took two Bentley performance and great fuel economy and it Speed 8s to first and second place at Le Mans sounds awesome!” It’s clear from the passion in 2003, 73 years after Bentley’s last Le Mans he exudes when discussing his career that win. This iconic win marked a triumphant driving is what keeps his blood pumping. comeback for the Bentley Racing Team. In 1923, a Bentley 3-litre finished fourth at the Off the track, Guy is a keen family man, inaugural 24-hour race, and more honours with a passion for outdoors. “I enjoy going followed – a win at Le Mans in 1924; the to watch football, my local team is Hull City. twenty-four hour world record at Montlhery I enjoy spending time with the family going by a Bentley travelling at an average speed on walks, biking, anything really to unwind of 95mph. The 6.5-litre Bentley engine was away from the race track.” With his sheer launched in 1925, laying the foundations for determination and raw talent, things look to the famous Speed Six racer, the innovative carry on getting better in his racing career and 4.5-litre, and the glorious Le Mans triumphs we look forward to working with Guy as he of 1927 – 1930 when the fame of Bentley’s continues as a Bentley Brand Ambassador. racing domination reverberated around the motoring world. These were the years of the Bentley Boys, a decade of extraordinary adventures, technological advances and victory celebrations. Guy is still synonymous with the Bentley brand. He is a Bentley Ambassador and it is as part of this role that he began his relationship with Bentley Cambridge and the Vindis Group in 2012. “It’s a really exciting role that goes hand in hand with my racing activities and keeps me very much involved in the road car side of Bentley, just as much as the racing side. “I get to travel to some fantastic events, to talk about both Bentley Motorsport and Bentley Motors in general. I was asked by Bentley Cambridge to attend the opening of their brand new state of the art Bentley dealership. It was impressive to see the dedication and commitment, not only to the Bentley brand, but to all the products that they sell, which pretty much covers the whole spectrum of car buying.”

The future of Bentley design. The EXP 10 Speed 6.

The words of Sang Yup Lee, Bentley’s Head of Advanced Design, say everything: “When I judge a sports car, I have a simple logic. Unless you fall in love with it at first sight, the car is a failure.” Prepare to fall in love with the future of Bentley. The concept is a British interpretation of a high performance two seater sportscar. From the racing success of the company’s early years to the international motorsport success of today, ‘speed’ is part of Bentley’s DNA. This inspiration is expressed throughout the EXP 10 Speed 6, where iconic Bentley design cues are fused with progressive craftmanship techniques and modern technologies. The EXP 10 Speed 6 offers a thrilling, driver oriented experience. The future of effortless road presence is here. “Making its global debut at the Geneva Motor Show, the EXP 10 Speed 6 is the ultimate expression of our vision for Bentley’s future - a powerful, exquisite and individual concept. This one car showcases modern automotive design, highly skilled British handcrafting, the finest materials and advanced performance technology. This is not just a new sports car concept but the potential Bentley of sports cars, a bold vision for a brand with a bold future.” - Wolfgang Dürheimer, Chairman and Chief Executive of Bentley Motors. The Bentley Continental GT Speed Convertible: your review. We handed over the reigns to Bentley Cambridge customer, Rachel Kaziewicz, for a customer’s view on the Bentley Continental GT Speed Convertible. Rachel is most confident in the abilities of her stunning vehicle, and took some time out of her day to review ‘her’ for us.

“What can I say about my Bentley GTC Speed? Well, I find this car incredibly comfortable, and my kids are sound asleep within minutes. They normally can’t sleep if a car is too noisy or bumpy so this is bliss! The performance of this vehicle is another strong point; it’s absolutely fabulous, and puts my husband’s Rolls Royce to shame (which he hates!). With regards to the handling of this car, it’s like it’s glued to the road, no matter what the weather throws at it. I have complete trust in this car to throw it around roundabouts and I recently got the chance to try her out in the snow and ice. I have one word; amazing! I always choose to drive my Bentley over my 4x4 because it’s safer to do so. Having a father that used to race for Jaguar, I have naturally grown up as a huge petrol head, and I can truthfully say I have never come close to losing control of this car. I like to drive when i’m feeling stressed and this car just handles every situation that I throw at her. I have an interesting story regarding my Bentley’s 4x4 capabilities, that Steve can back me up on as I had to bring it in to be valeted shortly afterwards! I went to the playing field to watch the kids play sport and witnessed all the other mums in their 4x4’s having to be towed out of the mud. They were all begging me not to attempt to move my car, because like me they love her, but of course, me being me, I got in, stuck her into drive and drove straight off the field. This has also happened to me at a play date at Sacrewell Farm near Peterborough. My Bentley handles everything, effortlessly.

Having always had horses and especially now I have the kids I have always owned 4x4s. However, since buying the Bentley I have sold mine. The Bentley does everything and more, and I feel a lot safer in my Bentley for many reasons. The main one, as mentioned, is the way in which she handles the road in all conditions. It is an amazing car, and I’m sure my husband will follow suit and have one next time round.” - Rachel Kaziewicz

What do the others have to say? The Bentley Continental GT Speed is undoubtedly a machine that is the dream test drive of automotive journalists. For those lucky enough to get behind the wheel of this car many have commented on its impressive performance, a capability that makes an excellent contrast to the refined, and luxuriously graceful drive you will experience inside. Though a convertible, wind and engine noise is never problematic inside the cabin, as Rachel has proved with the above picture of her beautiful son, fast asleep in his seat. The What Car? road test agreed that “The Bentley Continental GT Convertible has serious visual drama, and the mighty performance and capable handling prove it isn’t just an act. It’s comfortable, refined and hugely luxurious...The fabric roof gives excellent insulation from exterior noises too. At UK speeds it’s no louder than the coupe when cruising. That’s really impressive.” Having road tested their fair share of exquisitely beautiful cars the Top Gear test team also found themselves appreciating the raw power under the bonnet. “It also sounds more demonic, the exhaust having been retuned to resonate more deeply as well as flowing more gas, and if you drop the ‘box into Sport or Manual, extra baffles are opened for the full blare. It’s got a brutal bass note which sounds brilliantly threatening.”

The Bentley Bentayga. Pushing the limits of luxury. “The Bentley Bentayga is a name that reflects what we know our SUV will do better than any other car in the world - combine the best automotive luxury with outstanding performance to take the Bentley experience to new environments. - Wolfgang Dürheimer, Chairman and Chief Executive of Bentley Motors Bentley promised to introduce to its range the most uncompromising SUV available on the market. The sector-defining SUV will introduce Bentley’s renowned modern British luxury to limitless destinations with an impressive combination of on and off road performance. Combining beautiful handcrafted features with the effortless performance you expect, the Bentayga bridges the gap between the comfortable journey you demand, and the unforgiving terrain beneath your wheels. Taking inspiration from the Roque Bentayga, the beautifully imposing mountain peak that stands above the Gran Canaria backdrop, its name conjures images of rugged beauty, an aspect that has made its way into the SUV design. To place a deposit or to express your interest in the new Bentley Bentayga, before its official launch, please do not hesitate to contact the team at Bentley Cambridge on 01223 423515.
