o after all these years, many people have no idea what it is that I do for a living. Many people will refer to me as ‘that car guy’, ‘the guy in the orange hat’, ‘the Supercar Sunday Guy’, etc. I suppose I have a lot of nicknames. So ‘What do I do?’ Is the question. I actually do many different things. There is no specific order to what I do, it is sometimes hard to explain to people but let’s just say, I do a lot of “automotive stuff...” Car shows. I put on Supercar Sunday. I do it because I love it. I love the cars, and more so, I love the people and the community. I think most of you who attend regularly or read DrivenWorld Magazine know how passionately I feel about that. Supercar Sunday was just a little idea all those years ago which turned into something much bigger. Back then, the car scene was totally different. Social media did not exist and mobilizing or selling cars. Not a broker, but assist in getting word to the right people, who might be people or motivating them to come to an event was much harder than today. It was lot interested. Over all these years, it ends up I have a pretty decent network of people. From of ‘pounding the pavement’, passing out fliers and persistence. So, indeed I put on a car the big car collectors to the guys that have a couple cars, to those dreaming of owning a cool car. I have a lot of people in reach, hence the “Connected Media Group...” We are show. Somewhere over the years, I started recording cars for movies and video connected to the car community and the community at large. You need a car, I can find games. It all started when a customer at Village Coffee Roaster asked me if I could get it. Old, new, project, whatever. I get the job done. Then there are the odd things. Well not really odd in the car world. For some cars to record for a movie. Fast-forward, I have sourced cars for just about every major studio and video game company. We record the cars a few different ways and I some clients, I work as a car concierge. Over the years I have created many lasting would love to share with you how, but I am bound by confidentiality. Needless to say, relationships with many great people in service and in automobile sales. One thing led when you hear a car in a video game or a movie, understand that great efforts were taken to another and I facilitate many different things for them. From car builds, to customto record this audio. From the world’s best sound engineers and recordists to major izing of cars, project management, maintenance management, logistics and automobile investments in capturing the sound, it would blow you away to know how much energy storage. A little bit of everything really. Design, Copy, Photography, Social Media and Website design. Yes, we handle that as well. The fun part of all of this is that since my goes into capturing these sounds. Then one day my phone rang from a research company, a short time later, life revolves around automotive, so does everyone at Connected Media Group. We are another research company. Over the years, I have become a resource for research com- all “car people.” I like to keep everything that I can within our own community if pospanies with a specific focus in the automotive segment. I assist in the placement of sible. Passions run high in the car community and the reality is, if you make a living in qualified car owners and enthusiasts generally into two segments; high-net individuals the car world, you are in the passion business. We all work so hard to have cool cars, cool who own specific models (Ferrari, Rolls Royce, Bentley, Lamborghini, etc.) or for men projects, long hours in the garage turning wrenches, it is truly about passion. Then of course, there are events. I put on a lot of car events. Supercar Sunday and women who are actually drive their cars like they are meant to be driven and/or are opinion leaders in their segments. I have worked with many different research compa- is just one. There have been days where I have done a private car event on a Saturday night, Supercar Sunday the next morning and another private car event for a Sunday nies all over North America. It is a lot of fun. Over a decade ago, I started Connected Media Group LLC, which was the brunch. Technically, three car shows in under twenty-four hours. It is easy when you love umbrella for all of this. “Connected” in terms meaning that I am connected in the car what you do and the people that attend. What a better business to be in, cars and people. Staffing: I help businesses in the hiring of qualified personnel. I know all world. That was the one of my “time to grow up moments”. Warner Bros., reached out and wanted to do stuff and I had to become a business. I think that must be close to this sounds crazy but after all these years in the “car world,” I have come across so many qualified people who would add value to organizations in which I faclitiate the hiring. fourteen years ago now that I think of it. How time has flown by. As many of you know I am the Founder and President of the Motor4Toys Then of course, there are my great clients. I represent a number of different businesses in a number of different capacities. From PR and Marketing, Social Media, Charitable Foundation. Those of us at Motor4Toys have started another Foundation Advertising/design and events, to actual daily operation. I suppose I could use the word called Motor4America, which is geared to help troops, veterans and service personnel. “consultant,” but sometimes it is a bit more than a simple consultation. The client list We are still in the infancy stage with Motor4America, but we look to grow it and help includes great business like: Lavaggio- The art of auto detailing, The Auto Gallery, Vista as many people as possible. We believe in giving back and trying to make our country Ford Lincoln, Sage Automotive Group, Coastline Motorsport, Superchargers Online, and world better…we want to leave it better than we found it. Connected Media Group has published Driven World Magazine for over Mustangs ETC and the list goes on. Great clients who are very passionate about their five years. The magazine, which we are proud of, is a specific area within the business we clients and the work that they do. Lavaggio: I spend a lot of time at a truly magical place called Lavaggio. It wish to grow. It is so fun highlighting people and events around Southern California starts with the owner who is one of the most amazing men I have ever met. Lavaggio, and having the opportunity to put out a good message. For 2017, we are looking to add if you are a car person, is a must. I have been a part of the Lavaggio team for over five content, as well as increase advertisers, the number of copies printed and increase our years. Lavaggio was a concept that previously didn’t exist. It is a state-of-the-art detail digital reach. It is nice to have an opportunity to be creative in our day to day lives. Time center that includes concierge services, a meal with each visit, car service, offices, board to get really creative! I am also proud to share, that for the second concurrent year I am the Presirooms, events, and then of course is the world class auto detailing. You can find me there dent of the LAPD Topanga Area Booster Club. The boosters help support the needs of about four days a week. With a great team, I help to operate the business, I keep an office there and the place is simply awesome. Think of it as Disneyland for the car lover. Over the officers at the station. For 2017 I was asked to be a part of the Malibu/Lost Hills the years, Lavaggio has become the hub for many automotive events and groups. Many Sheriff ’s Foundation, which I was honored to join, so I am on their board as well. Truly different car clubs call Lavaggio “home” for their club meetings and events and most of an honor to be a part of two great organizations. I hope that none you take this as a “look at me” letter, it was just that I was the local car dealerships also participate in many of Lavaggio’s offerings. We have a lot “sat down” by somebody I respect and he told me that I do a great job at promoting of fun there, it is truly a special place. If you are ever around, stop in and say ‘hello’. Consulting: When it comes to cars and people, I have a decent idea of what I am talking everybody else and a horrible job at promoting my own business. That I have provided about. Who knew? I have been very blessed to play a role at several automotive busi- so much to so many other businesses and that I need to focus on growing my business nesses when it comes to the marketing and PR. I’ll never forget the time I was headed as well and to tell people everything that I do. Now that I have two children, I really down the 101 freeway and I saw a slogan the Auto Gallery used for years on a billboard, need to spread my “business wings” and grow. He suggested that I had better get to it as “it’s the lifestyle...” That slogan was seen by millions of people over the years. It was on I have college to think about and so many other things. If my daughters ask for a pony, every single marketing piece they used. Was kind of cool seeing on a billboard. A slogan let’s hope it is a ’68 Fastback right! So, as I deeply respect the man who made this suggestion (almost an order), I came up with… So, I do a bit of consulting. I am sharing with all of you that when it comes to marketing and PR, Events and any of The challenge I have is that I am great at promoting other people, other businesses, events and charities, but horrible at promoting myself or my own business. Crazy your automotive needs, Connected Media Group LLC is pretty darn good. If you need isn’t it?! How could that be? I guess, I just didn’t want to be that self-promoting guy. I any type of business support we have the ability to do it, from back end IT, to web, to was once told by an associate, “pay someone else to promote you,” oddly, that is what I social media, to design, etc. We are always willing to take on new clients and help them grow. You want the car community, Connected Media Group is connected. If you need do for others! Kind of funny actually. Then there are other things I do. Many of you have seen cars for sale in my something, let me know…we get it done. e-mail blasts or in the magazine. I consult with different people in finding the right car 5

The Automobile Driving Museum hosted The Chevy Tri-Five Collector Car Show on January 14th. The show was a huge success. Tri-Five owners from all over Southern California turned up to share their classics with the community and each other. Over 100 cars on display, just about every model and variation of the Tri-Fives were on display. From perfectly restored “stock cars” to race cars to the latest “pro-touring” car with modern engines and transmissions, it was the total spectrum of classic Americana at its finest. The ADM was a great host and pulled off a great event. Coffee, donuts and snacks were offered to the attendees, the museum was a huge hit to all and the ADM also offered trophies for the different classes. The best of the best were picked and it was stiff competition. A great day was had by all.

About the museum: The ADM collection of over 130 vehicles is broad and diverse; it includes cars from the earliest days of self-propelled vehicles, through examples of muscle cars. The collection includes cars owned by such celebrities as Howard Hughes, Jean Peters, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Anthony Davis. The Museum features a historical line up of cars and marques from the 20’s and 30’s many of which no longer are produced such as Packard, Durant, Saxon and more. The fleet is fueled and ready to go! Each Sunday they select three cars and provide rides for our guests. You can get up close and personal with our cars, and our dedicated and informed docents are available for tours on the weekends. e call Supercar Sunday, Supercar Sunday for a reason. It is not uncommon for the rarest and most exotic of cars pull into the show and park like daily drivers, but then there are the other truly special cars that stop by. When the “Producer” first pulled into
Supercar Sunday a few years ago, it was a huge honor. Everybody and I mean everybody went crazy. Even though the “Producer” is a couple years old, it is truly a show stopper. Walking through the show on a “regular” day and then you see it. The car just grabs you and you know that you are looking at something truly special. Every
10
angle, every inch of the car is simple magic. Clean, fast, modern yet classic, this is what most of us would want in a car. The Producer won GoodGuys in 2012 and it is clear why. About the car from the RingBrothers: Well known for their ability to transform Mustang’s into modern masterpieces, the RingBrothers have set the bar even higher with Bowers ’65 Mustang. The body was widened an incredible four inches, highlighted by the custom BASF orange paint, and both the hood and roof are carbon-fiber – signature RingBrothers touches. Under the hood is high compression Keith Craft-built 427 cubic inch
stroker based on the 351 Windsor small block making 740 crank horsepower. The matte finish three-piece wheels designed by the RingBrothers were built by Forgeline. Baer brakes, Afco shocks and a suspension consisting of front tubular Aarms and a Watts link set up in the rear give the car razor sharp handling. The car gets its name from Bowers’ Waynesburg, Pennsylvania based Producer Supply Company.

SPOTLIGHT MIKE Cavanah Interview by Dustin Troyn | Photos by Steven Chiu
M
ike, When I was at Motor4Toys I was running up and down the aisles and I saw your two cars, I stopped dead in my tracks...good grief! Mike, before we get to the cars, tell us a little bit about yourself, where did you grow up, what do you do and have you always been into cars? I grew up the West San Fernando Valley in the 70’s and 80’s. I started a mobile phone accessory manufacturing company in the early 90’s. I entered the mobile phone industry at the right time. As a kid, growing up in So. Cal, I saw a lot of 60’s and early 70’s muscle. My father owned several great cars while I was growing up….’63 split window Vette, ’71 C3 Vette, ’57 Chevy, ’68 Vette, Model A hot rod and a Model T hot rod. I have a great memory of my dad teaching me to drive at 16 on Stunt Road in Malibu in his ’68 Vette427, 4 speed. Shifting and maneuvering
that car on Stunt Rd was a test for a 16 year old rookie driver. From that moment on, I’ve had a love for all cars. I went through my European car stage. I owned a couple of Porsches in my 20’s and 30’s… a ’76 911S and a ’95 993 Carrera. About 10 years ago, I went back to my muscle car roots. Now the two cars that you had at Motor4Toys are really special cars. There are cars that are “done” and then cars that are “done right...,” Your cars are on a different level. Why did you decide to go with “Protouring” style? I was reintroduced to American muscle when the Dodge Challenger debuted in late 2008. I bought an 09 Challenger and really liked the look and the ride. After driving that car for a while, I knew I wanted the vintage look with modern technology. I bought a ’69 Camaro on EBAY that did not look or run like it did in the pictures. I drove the car straight to Timeless Kustoms in Camarillo, CA. I hit
it off immediately with the owner, Jason Pecikonis. Over the ensuing months, Jason showed me some of his past builds and educated me on different resto mod build styles. I really took to Pro-Touring. I liked the idea of a car that I can drive in the canyons or race. We ended up shelving the Camaro project. In 2010 I bought a ’66 Chevelle “roller” on Craigslist. This time I knew what I was buying. A rust free body that was going to be built from the ground up. Can you tell us about the Camaro... I never built the Camaro I purchased on Ebay. My current Camaro was being built for retired pitcher, Brad Penny while the Chevelle was under construction. I knew the car well. I knew the components Jason was using and that the quality was “top notch”. After Penny retired from baseball, he sold the car to another guy who had Jason make some awesome changes to the car. I really liked the way the car was set up. It also had different power train than
the Chevelle, which offered some variety. I bought the Camaro in August of 2015. Been enjoying it ever since. How about that incredible Chevelle... The Chevelle was finished in late 2013. It was a three year build from start to finish. Jason and I had a lot of “run ins” during the build. I was antsy to get the car finished and he was the artist who always made sure he did everything right. I’m glad he didn’t listen to me…The car was worth the wait. A true work of art on wheels. Why a Camaro and a Chevelle? I am a Chevy guy, like my dad. I had so many great times in his cars. The Camaro’s, Corvettes and Chevelle’s were my favorites growing up. I liked the ’70 Chevelle in particular as a kid. I chose the ’66 because they are more unique and a lighter car. Better for Pro-Touring.
Mar. And the Chevelle was on the cover of the Dec 2014 Chevy High Performance Magazine. Ok, from start to finish, how long to build each car and how far back did you take the cars...meaning were they total body off, blasted, bare metal builds from the ground up?
Did you have anyone else design the cars for you?
available today make these cars drive like a modern day sports car.
Jason and I collaborated on the Chevelle. We spoke or texted almost daily about the build. We never did a rendering of the car. We both had the vision in our heads and it came out the way we planned. We wanted to build a Chevelle like no other. A “one off ” car. Anyone can go into a dealer ship and buy a Ferrari or Porsche…They are amazing cars, but they all look the same. I prefer “one off ”…The only one that exists. The aftermarket suspension products

What would you tell anyone that wanted to build a car and a car at this level?
Both cars took about three years to build at Timeless Kustoms. They were both body off builds. All the way down to sheet metal. Every part assemble by hand. What challenges did you hit in the build along the way?

Most of the challenges were due to changes in direction, that in turn caused delays and extra work. The most significant was going to a supercharged engine from a naturally aspirated. This added time and many changes to the power train.
they drive? Both of these cars are amazing to drive. They both drive very differently from a power delivery perspective. They both handle like sports cars. I live next to the Santa Monica mountains… I love taking them in the canyons. The Chevelle has the low end power, which I really love for tight drives..a lot of “get up and go”. The Camaro needs some time to get going, but once it gets moving…Hold on! Have you had them on the track? Would you? I have raced the Chevelle several times….Optima Ultimate Streetcar Invitational- 2014, USCA Laguna Seca2014, USCA Fontana 2014, Goodguys Del Mar 2016, Street Machine Nationals 2015. What are you most proud of with these cars? I had a goal to own a couple of great muscle cars and I’m super proud to have two amazing machines in my garage. I can drive them, race them and take them to pick up groceries. Are you going to do any other cars? What
car and why? I have a couple of kids entering college soon. My wife has knocked some sense into me for the time being…No cars in the near future. Do you have any other cool cars in your collection? I own an ’04 Corvette Z06 in red with full LG motorsports suspension, cold air intake, MSD short throw shifter and Sparco seats. You clearly have a recipe for success with both your cars and your business. What do you consider the keys to success?
Work hard, get along with others, say what you are thinking (too much time wasted “beating around the bush” in business) and be transparent. There are no short cuts, be a long term thinker and you will outlast most of the competition. If you could leave our readers with a parting thought...anything you want...what would it be?

Drive your cars! So many car people sit around and look at them. That’s fine, but get out and enjoy them too. A nick or scratch never hurt anyone. Enjoy!

hen I first heard of Lavaggio, I didn’t believe what I was told. “The most amazing detailing facility ever built!” That was the quote. Years ago, I had an auto detailing business and all of us know, auto detailing is a bay or a trailer. So, when I heard about Lavaggio, I just wrote it off. Over the next couple of months, I kept hearing about Lavaggio and it always followed with “you must go see it, you will not believe it.” So, curiosity got the best of me and I headed over. Exiting the 101 fwy at Reyes Adobe, I was told I could not miss it, “turn right off the freeway and make the first right onto Canwood St. and you will see it on your left.”
So off the freeway I went, turned right and right onto Canwood Street. But, something must be wrong. All I see is a spa or a medical building, everything else is residential. There is no detail center around here? So, I drove back and forth a few times and I kept seeing the Lavaggio waterfall and signage by the street, but where was the facility? All I see is this stunning building that is reminiscent of a Tuscan villa. So, I turned into the medical building or villa or whatever it was and my jaw dropped, IT WAS LAVAGGIO! A little intimidated, I pulled into the parking lot. I didn’t understand. This was the detailing facility? I walked up the marble steps and entered automotive nirvana. Allow me to assure you with 100% certainty; there is no other detail facility
on the planet like Lavaggio. Everything I was told was true, and more. Lavaggio is an entirely new concept in auto detailing. It is not a bay or a body shop, it is quite possibly the nicest automotive venue that has ever been created. Lavaggio is dedicated to one simple principle: Exceed your expectations. To fully understand Lavaggio, you must visit. No expense has been spared in providing your vehicle and yourself with the finest experience possible. So what makes Lavaggio so special? It begins when you pull onto the property. As you pull in the lull of waterfalls immediately puts you at ease. Lavaggio’s service advisor, Gabriel greets you with a friendly smile and an extremely high level of expertise. Once you have
agreed upon a service, you enter Lavaggio’s state-of-the-art building. The concierge greets you, not unlike a five star hotel. She asks if you are “staying” or if you would like to be “transported” back to your home or office. Now here is where it starts to get very interesting. Included in the price of every service is a meal made to order and a ride to your home or office if needed. Do you need me to repeat that? You pull up to get your vehicle washed or detailed and you have your choice of a freshly made meal and/or a ride back to the office! NO EXTRA CHARGE! If it is the case that you decide you are going to stay at Lavaggio while your vehicle is being cleaned, you have your choice of relaxing on their stunning patio, watching the flat-screen TV inside, using
one of three iMacs or your own wireless laptop or device. And, this is only a small portion of the facility! If it is the case that you have work to be done or want a little more privacy, just head upstairs and there is a desk and a private sitting area as well as offices that are available to you. At no extra charge! Ok, ok, sounds great, but if I am getting a ride home and a return pick up to get my vehicle and a complimentary meal, this place must cost a fortune right? WRONG! That is the most amazing part of the Lavaggio experience; it is priced at a level that anyone can afford! In fact, it is price better than most other quality detail shops and mobile detailers. Throw in the lunch, amenities and pampering, it is a no-brainer. Back to exceeding expectations, the base service is the Lavaggio Signature Wash. Now, what you have to understand here is that their wash is everybody else’s mini-detail or detail. That signature wash which is expertly executed by detailers, is
fully customized to each vehicle, meaning that it is not a conveyor or a line, it is two detail professionals using mineral free water (R-O water) in a dedicated wash bay utilizing the finest products available. After the car is washed, it is pulled into the detail bay. Oh, the detail bay. Again, I assure you with 100% certainty that you have never seen such a detail bay or work area (see next page). Your vehicle is pulled into the bay and the detailers go to work on the inside and exterior of the vehicle. Your floor mats are put through a state-of-the-art washing and sanitizing machine. Your steering wheel, shifter and door handle are sanitized. From your wheels to your windows to your gas door, the attention to detail on the Signature Wash far exceeds the norm. To ensure the paint looks great, the detailers finish the vehicle with a liberal portion of detail spray. Yes, this is the wash! Upon completion, your vehicle is inspected three times. THREE TIMES! This ensures that Lavaggio lives up to its promise: Ex-
ceeding your expectations. If this is just the wash, imagine the detail! Also worth noting are the big, sound proof bay windows, which are incorporated into the structure. Every step of the way you can observe the skilled technicians perfecting your vehicle! Nothing is hidden and the entire process is there for you to see. The entire approach at Lavaggio is to ensure that you are 100% comfortable with every aspect of your experience and the services being rendered on your vehicle. When I tell you that you have to experience Lavaggio, you really must. I believe it actually takes a few visits to really understand the scope of what Lavaggio has to offer ant the vision that has been recognized. Lavaggio is truly redefining auto detailing. When one publishes a magazine, space is a precious commodity. I figured I would dedicate three pages to Lavaggio, but I could not tell the whole Lavaggio story in just two pages. I could actually
dedicate a whole magazine to really elaborate on the level of detail at Lavaggio, but if you are a car guy like me, check out this one of a kind detail bay. To detail properly, you must have an environment, which is conducive to detailing. Environmental factors like temperature, wind, fallout (overspray, dirt/ dust in the air, other pollutants) all play a major role in the preparation, application and execution of detailing. At Lavaggio, the detail bay was designed to guarantee that Lavaggio had the perfect environment. From the climate controlled bay to the “clean room” air treatment system to remove dust and pollutants in the air, to the natural lighting, and the finest and most modern equipment, Lavaggio is truly one of a kind. The detail team at Lavaggio has been trained, retrained, trained again, some more training and they are always training. Enough is never enough and to stay sharp, industry experts are in constant contact and are being flown in from all
18
over the United States to ensure the Lavaggio team is current on all new techniques, products and information. At Lavaggio, detailing is more than detailing, it is keeping you and your family healthy! Lavaggio has researched and found that there is a direct relationship between time spent in a car and illness. This is often attributed to contaminants in your vehicle. Research shows that if you eat in your vehicle, have kids or animals, your vehicle can be as dirty if not dirtier than your toilet. It’s true, Google it! To combat this, Lavaggio has taken a “health approach” and again, invested in training and equipment to kill germs and bacteria in your vehicle. The purpose of this “Health Approach” was simply that the Lavaggio management felt it was their responsibility to keep their guests and the guest’s families healthy. The lift in the corner. Yup, you got it, concours detailing. There was such a high demand from guests that wanted more than just the top and inside of their vehicles done, that Lavaggio decided to put in a lift with extra-low ramps (for the sports cars owners out there). Lavaggio offers concours detailing and under-carriage detailing. They offered a story about a set of wheels that they were preparing for a guest. The wheels were to be put on a vintage Ferrari that was to head up to Concorso Italiano. So Lavaggio went to
work on the wire wheels and the vintage tires. Having completed the “Concours wheel and tire service”, what did Lavaggio do? They called in a local certified concours judge and had them inspected prior to delivery to the client. The vehicle took a trophy! What types of vehicles frequent Lavaggio? On any given day, you will see a mom pull up in a SUV or a Prius owner pulling in. The irony is that most people think that Lavaggio is only for “certain cars,” but truth be told, every type of car imaginable pulls in on a daily basis. I have been there when a boat pulled in, followed by a Carrera Gt, then a couple “soccer moms” in SUVs and then a Harley. Lavaggio was created to suit the needs of every type of vehicle owner and every type of vehicle. I have seen 4x4s covered in mud from weekend in the desert to real 440 6-pack Cudas to Hondas, Toyotas, Kias and everything else under the sun. Lavaggio is such a value and an experience, once you visit, you have found a new home. Lavaggio has also reached out to the car community. From offering their facility to car clubs and charitable foundations, to holding private events at to partnering with dealerships and manufacturers. Lavaggio has hosted guests like the Santa Barbara Porsche Club and parties and receptions from Lamborghini
Aventador Launch parties with the Auto Gallery, Vista Ford Racing Mustang drives, McLaren Beverly Hills test drives, Tesla test drives, and so on and so forth. Lavaggio is becoming a central hub for everything automotive. Back to the detailing. Lavaggio takes such great care of your vehicle and they take it so seriously, every vehicle is inspected three times by three different trained experts. The technicians wear white cloth gloves and lab coats. Upper management even does “spot inspections” to ensure the highest level of work possible. And, within 48 hours, a follow up call is made to the guest to ensure that their experience was of the approval of the guest. At Lavaggio, the experience is in the details and they are in the detail business and trust me, it shows. Being very immersed in the automotive world, I have never come across such an organization and operation. Lavaggio has truly set a new bar that will be very hard to replicate if it is even possible. Again, I have to stress, you have to visit the location to fully understand what has been created. The Platinum Club at Lavaggio: Lavaggio has had such great demand for a “yearly program”, which they came up with a concept called the “Platinum Club.” The Platinum Club is a yearly program in which you enroll your vehicle.
19
The program allows you to get your vehicle unlimited Signature Washes. Yes, that does mean every day. It entitles you to a meal with every visit, concierge services, local car service, use of the business centers and offices, invitations to private events and product launches. It also entitles you to (4) Ultimate Details, A Lease Return Detail & A New Car Detail (in the case that you trade in your vehicle), VIP treatment. You might ask if anyone gets their car washed every day and the answer is “yes”, they do. The value of just the washes once a week is well over $2500.00, not including the Ultimate Details, the meal with each visit, the New vehicle and Lease return details and all of the amenities. The true value of this programs is somewhere over the $4600.00 mark. But in classic Lavaggio style, they have priced the Platinum Club around $2,000.00 and even have payment options available to you. In essence, your vehicle is guaranteed to be clean and resale value or trade-in value is realized. I have personally enrolled two vehicles and have to tell you that it is the finest experience ever. I would suggest joining to everyone. For more info on Lavaggio & the Platinum Club: 818-584-3240 www.lavaggio.net

t doesn’t look any different, said no Mustang owner ever. This isn’t another revolutionary styling step for the Mustang like we saw for the 2015 model year, and it’s not just a facelift. It’s more than just a re-designed grill and taillights, it’s a total refinement of an already revolutionary and iconic car. Ford first officially revealed the new 2018 Mustang at the Detroit Auto Show on 1/17/2017 but a few days earlier, b-roll of the new Mustang was leaked on YouTube. DrivenWorld Magazine contributor Ken Latka has seen this new Pony first hand and here’s his take on the reveal.
“On Tuesday January 17, 2017 the 2018 Ford Mustang was unveiled in Detroit, Michigan and Los Angeles, California. The Ford Motor Company worked with the Television Motion Picture Car Club to find a suitable location for the public unveiling in Los Angeles. The location chosen was the famous “Original Farmers Market” at Third and Fairfax in Los Angeles. The car that was unveiled to the media and the public was the S550’s midcycle refresh of the 2018 Mustang GT with the Performance Package option. Many improvements have been
made inside and out, including more horsepower and torque from the direct injected 5.0L Coyote power plant, as well as more torque for the 2.3L Eco-Boost engine (how much of an increase for both engines was not stated during the unveiling). A 10 speed automatic transmission will also be available, as will an Active Valve Performance Exhaust system, Magna Ride dampers from the GT350 and GT350R, a completely redesigned and more aggressive nose (that takes cues from the Shelby Mustang) with
redesigned front fenders, a lower hood and grille and functional hood vents. There are 12 wheel choices available, as well as a more aggressive rear valance, an available rear wing and much more. The interior boasts a user programmable 12” LCD instrument cluster, a more refined interior with leather covered center console and contrasting dual stitching which puts it more on par with its European rivals. A convertible version of the new Ford Mustang will also be available in 2018.” As with many vehicle mid-cycle
refreshes, it is met with skepticism and negativity as many come to know and love the current form of a vehicle. Many on-line commenters that have graduated from the YouTube School of automotive design bashing called it everything from a ‘retarded catfish’ to a ‘Dodge Challenger Wannabe’. Whatever your opinion on the new design of the exterior of the car, it is still unmistakably a Mustang, and with refinements throughout the muscle car, it is better all around. The front end is the most controversial of all of the changes on the new Mustang,
and is the area that has received the most criticism. Who knew that lowering a grill 20cm and reshaping the headlights would bring about such a reaction? Inside sources say that this front end is much closer to what the Ford designers originally intended for the 2015 Mustang. I wonder if this version came out first, and the 2015 styling was revealed today if there wouldn’t be the same exact comments being made. In addition to the new lower grill and Jaguar F-Type-esq headlights, the hood on the GT model is now equipped with
larger, and functional hood extractors to help keep the 5-Liter-Heater cooled off. Surprisingly, the 2.3L Ecoboost equipped Mustang does not have an option for hood vents even though the running temperatures of the turbo-4 can get as hot as the V8, but with less displacement and a turbo, can suffer more power loss from heat soak. The front end is also now missing the option for fog lights! Well, the traditional fog lights are gone and replaced with smaller, more efficient, and blindingly bright led projectors on the insides of the turn indicators. The rear of the Mustang also received
a refresh that is more aggressive all around. The triplet taillights have been made more angular, and the addition of standard quad exhaust tips lets everyone know that this car means business. Continuing the more aggressive theme down low is an all new lower bumper diffuser which is reminiscent of those found on high dollar supercars to channel air properly for high-speed stability. It’s unclear if this new diffuser is functional or not, but if the other updates to the car are any indication, then yes they are. Even if there were there purely for styling, I say ‘Please and Thank You’. Did I forget to mention a GT350R inspired spoiler?

On top of all of the changes to the body, Ford has also announced that there will be an unprecedented 12 different wheel options available to choose from across the platform. New colors, new wheels, new styling, should make it easy for buyers to get a unique vehicle from all of the others, while at the same time giving dealers a headache when trying to choose which wheels to put on which cars and in what color. There hasn’t been any images yet of these new wheels as the only images so far have been of the Performance Pack wheels which are currently available on the 2015-2017 models. The interior looks mostly the same as the current model year, but does have some very notable updates including a leather wrapped center console, up from the current textured plastic, contrast double stitching, and the coolest feature for the gadget and tech nerds, a slew of new features within a 12” gauge screen cluster including programmable colors, track timer, g-meter, horizontal tach, and all with the looks and feel of the supercar that this style came
from, the Ford GT. Now onto what makes this a better pony car. Sure, styling is very important to the success of a vehicle, but what about the performance? What has Ford done to make the Mustang great again? Starting with the suspension, Ford was feeling the pressure from GM and the new Z28 Camaro to step up their game in the handling department. The suspension of the S550 platform was already revolutionary for the Mustang, but the addition of magnetic assisted suspension in the GT350R took the chassis to a true supercar level of handling. Now, this mag-ride is available in the GT and Ecoboost packages on the Mustang, which means it’s available to the masses without having to pay GT350R prices. The lowly V6 option has killed off, which we can all agree....that pony needed to be put out to pasture, while the Ecoboost 2.3L Turbo and the 5.0L Coyote V8 are both getting gains in horsepower and torque. Ford did not release any official numbers, and we’re not expecting
any significant increases over the current power plants, but a gain is a gain, and more horsepower is always a good thing in the muscle car world. The debate of a manual transmission versus an automatic has been argued since the first drag race between the two happened. Fast forward to today, and a whole new set of variables comes into play besides just 0-60 times. The introduction of a new 10-speed automatic gearbox may sound excessive (or harken back to the days of 10-speed bicycles), but CAFE laws and increased gas mileage demands are forcing manufacturers to try new ways of squeezing every last mile out of every last drop, while at the same time, giving you the power and performance you demand. The new Ford F-150 raptor and standard Ecoboost F-150 are already available with a 10-speed automatic and it does take a bit of getting used to with all of the shifting, but this allows the engine to stay at its optimal rpm band for maximum performance. These days, automatic transmissions can shift faster than any human ever could. To the purist, this
all doesn’t matter. The 6-speed manual gearbox is still an option, and will prove to be, once again, the transmission of choice among owners. The last of the notable changes is a bit awkward for the Mustang. I can’t tell if it was put on as a joke (a good one at that), or if government safety regulators watch too much YouTube. The newest feature in the Mustang is..... Pedestrian Detection and Avoidance. Were the videos that bad that the government had to step in and say that Mustangs need this feature, or did Ford lawyers do it? Or did the designers just get tired of seeing their beautiful cars get busted up by bad drivers driving into crowds? I’m really curious to see how well this feature will work when a Mustang owner decides to hotrod it out of a car event and loses control towards a crowd. It’s only a matter of time before this technology in the Mustang gets put to the real-world test, and I hope it’s successful. Perhaps then we can finally hold a Mustang Marque day at Supercar Sunday without fear of massive wide-spread death and destruction.
We’ve heard about the new Mustang GT, Mustang Ecoboost, and the death of the V6, but we haven’t heard anything about any of the special edition Mustangs. Shelby? Roush? Saleen? Boss? Mach 1? Bullet? California Special? GT 500? Ford has not announced anything officially, but their marketing department has given us a big hint into one new special edition. In the background of one official Ford image of the new 2018 Mustang, another car can be seen through the windshield. Even the model in the image is looking at this mystery car instead of the main focus of the image. Could it be? The black diagonal fender stripe is unmistakable,
and you can just about make out the markings “BOSS 302”. Could this be our first look at the new BOSS Mustang? It’s not there by mistake, and the placement is pretty intentional, so it’s safe to say that Ford is working on releasing some new heritage special editions in this new body. The image doesn’t show much of the car and doesn’t give away any design hints as to what will be different on this new BOSS, but we do know that the iconic stripes are going to make a comeback. Our sources from inside Ford have also told us that this new body style will also be the
chassis to hold a new Mach 1 edition. It will be interesting to see how they incorporate a shaker hood onto a design that is more sports car, and less muscle car, but Ford has been on a roll lately with design, and we’re beside ourselves as we wait for what’s next. On-line leaks from Ford testing facilities have shown images of a new possible GT500, backed by leaks from Ford stating that the GT500 will make a comeback, so there will be plenty of editions to choose from, no matter your taste or budget. There are also all of the aftermarket com-
25
panies that will be taking on the new Mustang and creating their own special editions. Steeda will no doubt have a track-ready edition, and I’ve already started my work on the new design for the next VFR Mustang, seen on the cover. This next step in the evolution of the Mustang may come as a step back for some, while others will embrace the changes. It’s the same story as with all Mustangs in the past, and it’s doubtful that anything will be different when the Mustang is updated again in a few years. For now, we can still enjoy the current Mustang in all of its greatness until the day the last one rolls off the showroom floor of the last dealership to make room for this newest iteration.

What do you drive?
Article by: Dustin Troyan | Photos by: David Rosenthal
This is Alex’s Mustang. Alex has been a “regular” at Supercar Sunday for years. He recently finished his Fastback and we were just blown away. When Alex drove into Supercar Sunday for the first time, he stopped the show! The Fastback looked great, but once he popped the hood, we saw the full extent of the build. Many of the regulars insisted that we do a story on the car and that prompted us at DrivenWorld Magazine to make a decision that we want to include more of our readers rides and to tell the story of your builds. In next month’s issue, you will see a story on Alex and his amazing Fastback. But, what do you drive and do you deserve to have a story told about you and your car? Here is the fun part, the car doesn’t have to be a show winner, it just has to have a great story. We want your story! Or perhaps it is your friend’s story, your dad’s story, you get the drift... Shoot us an e-mail and let tell us your story.... we all have a story! Please e-mail your story to: Dustin@connectedmediagroup.com

Remembering the “Hood” Long before “Al Capone” and the “Crypts”, the only thing that ruled the hood was a hood ornament. Hood ornaments were the descendants of the motometer. The motometer was a thermometer that screwed into the top of the radiator cap. The driver could see the mercury rise in the motometer and knew when the car was running hot. Over time, the motometer became a work of art. The invention of the dash gauge however, ultimately made the vehicle motometer obsolete. In an effort to keep the motometer’s artistic look within the automotive design, hood ornaments were developed as a replacement to the motometer. In Europe, the hood ornaments were referred to as a “mascot”. Much effort was put into the design and creation of hood ornaments. The 1920’s thru the 40’s saw ‘art deco’ works of art created for ornamentation of the automobile. These designs included things like winged goddesses and graceful birds. Soon, the designs evolved into logos for the manufacturer. Remember the Indian Chief on the Pontiac? The longest lasting design is the “Spirit of Ecstasy”, created by sculptor Charles Sykes in 1911 for Rolls Royce. It’s still used today! The 50’s saw automakers move to a smoother hood design with hood ornaments resembling objects such as rockets and jet planes. The use of hood ornaments began to decline in the 60’s. Today, they’re reserved for large luxury vehicles, both foreign and domestic. Antique hood ornaments have become collector items. An original Bugatti Elephant is worth over $3,000.00.

Turn Your Back on the Scale

he dreaded scale! How many of you close your eyes, keep your fingers crossed before you step onto the scale in hopes that you’ve lost a pound or two? How many of you are crushed after you look down at the scale, and either noticed the pin did not move at all, or it moved up from where it was last week? It’s crushing isn’t it? Especially when you have diligently watched your diet, focused on your workouts, and developed a healthy relationship with food. I see it many times, over and over again. It’s heartbreaking when I have a client come up to me in tears, telling me they don’t know what’s wrong. They do everything right and yet, the scale doesn’t say anything different. I go through the exact list every time to see what is going on in their life? How are you feeling about food
choices and control? How do your clothes feel on you? How are your workouts? What is your stress level? Are you sleeping? How do you feel about yourself and lifestyle choices? Do you feel fulfilled with your personal time and relationships? After we have a sit down, and the client answers, I then tell them, “Then should the number on the scale matter?” What’s important is to have a goal, but you should have fun with it! You should not assign your entire self-worth to it. The more stress you put on yourself to accomplish the goal, the more stress you’ll feel. What does this mean? It means it’s okay to focus on self-improvement and have an idea of how you want to achieve the goal, but the feelings about who you are should not hinder the rate of progress that is being made. It should not make you feel worthless or feel like a complete

failure if progress has slowed. It is not the end of the world when a week goes by and you have not stepped foot on the scale. Better yet, why not just put the scale in the closet so it’s not glaring at you as you walk into the bathroom every morning. Things that are worthwhile, take time to gain momentum, and sometimes there are more steps in the process that may derail you, but they are stepping stones to the overall goal. What I always tell clients before they begin is, they need take some time to dig deep, to feel happy and content with their body. What I mean by that is, if you spent years dieting, starving your body of proper nutrition and self-love, you need to retrace your steps and begin the process of loving the body that you have. Yes, we’ve all been there, when you look down at the scale and the pin had not moved or it moved to the right, and you feel like you’ve

failed because you’ve been working your butt off. I’ve been there! But you need to be okay with looking at yourself in the mirror or stepping on the scale and still think you’re an amazing human being. It’s time to change the habit, heck 2017 is coming up, why not start the change at the beginning of the New Year. It’s a great opportunity to make a decision to quit looking at what the scale says, and focus on feeding your body healthy nutrition and love. At the end of the day, no one sees what’s on the scale but you. Look back at the questions when you’re feeling like your progress has slowed, answer the questions yourself with honesty. The number on the scale is not your life score. Be kind to your body, and mind. When you do that, things will begin to change, and you’ll take drastic steps towards achieving your goal.
Scenic Hideaway Poinsettia Wall

ou have likely driven past this scenic spot many times before without any idea that it sits just a stone’s throw away from the 101 freeway. Tucked away is literally a wall of Poinsettias about one third of a mile long hugging the winding road of a quiet Avocado and Orange ranch. What a location to shoot some pho-
tos of your ride! Especially during the Christmas holidays! (Does a Christmas card come to mind?) The site is easy to get to and find—no Map Quest, no Siri, no Alexa required—heading Northbound on the 101 at the bottom of the Conejo Grade you take “Camarillo Springs Road” and stay to the left—that’s it! There is however a short window of opportunity—Poinsettias typically bloom from mid-December to mid-January.
These pics were taken in the afternoon on New Year’s Day. I am not much of a camera guy but I was lucky a professional photographer, Raffi Hadidian [my new BFF] happened along and voila— his work—thanks Raffi. You can view his works on flickr and Facebook. Now, a bonus—a little further down the road is a beautiful country park— ideal for a car club destination or event. “Camarillo Grove Park” boasts BBQs,
a nature center, a dog park, and covered seating areas—you will forget that the 101 freeway is just a stone’s throw away. Enjoy! P.S. Should you need the services of a professional photographer—Raffi offers services in Product Photos [among his other services]—here is the link to his website www.raffix.com I certainly recommend him.

Decking Out Your Home Gwen Banta

or those thinking of adding a deck to your home, now is a good time to solidify those plans so you’ll be ready to fire up the grill when Memorial Day arrives. Decks, like any addition, should be well thought out. It is important to have a style that not only is a complement to your home, but also is in proportion to the size of your home. A heavy redwood deck may not necessarily enhance a Victorian home, and an oversized deck that leaves no yard space could actually reduce the value of your home. Always consider the orientation of the barbecue area to the home’s exterior door. Yes, it is ideal for the cooking area to have convenient access, but it is advisable not to place the grill so close to the entrance that smoke from a cooking disaster could blow back into your home. If you’re considering adding a spa to your deck, be sure there is enough space around the perimeter so that a tipsy guest will be less likely to take an unexpected plunge. Choose materials that weather well. The extra expense will be well worth it in the end. So start stocking up now on wood and steaks. We’ll bring the beer! 35
V
ista Ford Racing has been putting out some incredible and unique vehicles since its inception. The one vehicle that has been the most popular has been by far the Ford Mustang, and since the release of the current body style in 2015, keeping them in stock and coming up with new ideas has been somewhat of a challenge. I guess it’s a good thing that it’s the most modified vehicle among
all of the makes and models of cars in the world which makes a very robust aftermarket selection of goodies. This 2017 Mustang GT is the last of this current generation of Mustang to be modified by the VFR Team, so they took this opportunity to select all of their guilty pleasure modifications all on to one car and this is the result after 4 months of planning. This specific car was carefully selected by the VFR team with certain OEM options
36
direct from the factory, which as many of you know, can take quite a bit of time to build a special order vehicle from the factory. Once it arrived, a buzz in the VFR team kicked them into high gear to get all of the parts in for this one-off build. The design team worked hand in hand with the technicians on a daily basis during the build to ensure that the overall vision was achieved, and achieve they did! It’s more than just looks! Its perfor-
mance suspension as well as performance under the hood and under the car! Starting in the front, a new urethane front lip was installed for a more aggressive look, but without too much concern about future scrapes since urethane is flexible enough to not crack at the first sign of a curb. To give it extra support and a more race car look, turnbuckles were added and attached to the lower front bumper cover. Even at high speeds, this front spoiler
isn’t going anywhere. Under the hood is mostly stock in order to retain factory warranties, but they were able to squeeze in a VFR Coolant overflow tank produced by Granetelli Motorsports which looks leagues better than the stock plastic bubble tank. Under the car is a monstrous sounding S-Type Borla Exhaust which roars from start up, but allows a drive without drone. The VFR Stage 1 Suspension gives the car an aggressive drop with
Eibach Sportline springs and allows the 20” Verde wheels to complete envelope the wheel wells and give the VFR Stang a perfect stance while still allowing daily drivability. The gas cap was replaced with a black textured aluminum cap with a carbon fiber inlay and yellow Mustang logo to continue to tie together the black and yellow theme without going overboard by adding stripes or graphics. The two pieces that give this car that perfect look are the
two main parts in high gloss black. The roof was special ordered on the vehicle from the factory to tie in with the biggest guilty pleasure part on the car; the GT350R replica wing. It almost felt as taboo and that the purists might claim that the car was attempting to be a Shelby clone. Having seen it sit next to a Shelby in the showroom at Vista Ford in Oxnard, I can safely say the cars look nothing alike, while both looking fantastic in their own
37
respects. A yellow Mustang with black accents isn’t a car that everyone would run out buy, but this car is something that every can appreciate and admire. It’s aggressive, visually and audibly loud, sleek, sexy, and dare I say... mildly wild? Hopefully once the car is taken home by its future owner, they decide to bring it out to Supercar Sunday for all of us to admire up close!
