I am done. No more cars. No really I mean that. No more cars. I cannot do any more cars, I don't want to do any more cars, cars drive me crazy. Old cars, new cars, I need to be done. I have a couple old cars. I love them. I am not a car collector, I am more of a dreamer I guess. I dream that I would have a cool collection and a big house with a barn to store my cars and I would have a bar and a coffee roaster in it. The bar would simply be to hang out with friends and have a beer or two while the bar-b-que is warming up and the coffee roaster is because I love good At The Auto Gallery, we like espresso and I have a history in coffee. The New Location

California Car Cover Simi Valley

ARTICLE and PHOTOS by Tony De Frank

After 30 years in the San Fernando Valley, California Car Cover relocated to its new home in Simi Valley, Ca in January. The new headquarters has some improved office space for our employees, plus some space for a showroom and our distribution center. We had been seriously looking for a new location in Simi Valley the past two years, so when the opportunity came up on Voyager Ave we jumped at it. Over seven weeks at the end of 2019 we gradually transitioned the operations of both our companies, California Car Cover and California Car Duster, to the Simi Valley community. It was a few weeks of around the clock work, so our staff is definitely glad to be settled into the new location now. Our team did an amazing job to sort, stack and pack 25 years of stuff we had accumulated on De Soto Ave. We chose Simi Valley based on its proximity to the San Fernando Valley for our long time customers and employees. We didn’t want to venture too far from our SFV roots. The new location is just off the Tapo Canyon Blvd. exit, so it is a 15 minute drive from our last location. It was tough to say goodbye to the West San Fernando Valley, but we are excited about the opportunity in Simi Valley. Simi is a close knit community filled with plenty of classic car and muscle car enthusiasts. Quite a few of our regulars have made the drive to our new location. Our new showroom is smaller that our Chatsworth location, but we have still outfitted the store and offices with the California Car Cover flair. In the hallways you will find some of our vintage gas pumps and nostalgia. The offices are decorated with some of the original trade show signs that we used to take to car shows in the early 1990s. One wall is dedicated to the history of our companies and the DeFrank family, so there are plenty of funny and unique photos on display here. Our monthly cars and coffee events, the Saturday Socials, will start up again in April. We will start to work with the city in the coming weeks to coordinate an open house/car show to let the Simi Valley community know more about us. Details for all of our events can be found on calcarcover.com or our Facebook page.

Hot Rod

Marque Supercar Sunday Article by Dustin Troyan Photos Steve Geldman, @ImagePhotoMotorsports

Hot Rod Marque Day was another huge success at Supercar Sunday. High-compression motors and high octane fuel were what it was all about. Hot Rodders and custom car builders from all over Southern California particpated in the Hot Rod Marque day and it was awesome! From early Fords with blown motors to late model Pro-touring Chevelles and Camaros, it was a tremendous showing of art and creativity. Some consider hot rodding the ultimate form of self expression within the automotive lifestyle and that what started decades ago laid a foundation not only for the car culture but shaped autmotive design, events, people and community. It is also great to see so many of the "original" drag racers and hot rodders together at an event! Telling storeis about racing at all the old drage strips to tall tales about Van Nuys Boulevard and Forrest Lawn Drive. It is always so special to be around the guys and gals who started all! It was a wonderful day of amazing vehicles and even better people. Supercar Sunday is a weekly event presented by www.Keyescars.com and Porsche Woodland Hills. The event is every Sunday at Pierce College in Woodland Hills.

The Ferrari F8 Spider The recently announced drop top from Maranello, comes in this spider edition of the F8 Tributo. The F8 Spider is the replacement for the 488 spider, bringing with it several updates over the outgoing model. Starting with a 710hp / 568 lb-ft tq, 3.9l

twin turbo V8, which uses a lighter crankshaft, connecting rods, flywheel, and lighter exhaust manifolds. The drivetrain comes in 40 pounds lighter than the one used by the 488. The retractable hardtop can take you from enclosed to open air in a mere 14 seconds,

all while the car is driving up to 28 mph. Joining the F8 Spider's electronic gadgetry is Ferrari's own Dynamic Enhancer + and the Side Slip Control system. The Dynamic Enhancer + uses brake vectoring to increase control through a corner, while the Side Slip Control system makes sure that you don't kill your-

Tips

For Maintaining & Protecting Your Ferrari From the Mattioli Automotive Group

DETAILING In addition to keeping a car looking its best, consistent detailing is an important step in protecting a vehicle’s finish. Contaminants such as dirt, pollen, tree sap, and bird droppings can scratch and deteriorate painted surfaces if left over long periods. Given the value of a Ferrari, It is important to ensure that “best practices” are followed when performing a car wash; here are just a few from Mattioli Automotive Group’s (MAG) very own detailing specialists. • Use the proper products: Ensure that the soap and other cleaning products being used have been formulated specifically for automotive use. Excessively strong chemicals and detergents will not only strip the wax off but can also dull the finish on paint and trim. • All Towels are not equal: Microfiber towels offer low friction and can absorb more than seven times their weight in water, making them less abrasive and more effective than other towels. It is best to use a separate towel for each function (i.e..washing, drying, applying chemicals, etc). Also, towels should never be used if they are contaminated or have fallen on the ground; washing your towels often will help ensure that they are free of debris. • Two bucket Technique: To help prevent the re-introduction of dirt and contaminants It is best to employ the “two bucket technique” when washing your car. One bucket should contain the diluted soap and a second bucket should have clean water. After each pass with the soap, rinse contaminants off of the sponge in the clean water before re-introducing into the soap solution again. • Nooks and Crannies: Dirt and water can gather in the seams of the doors, trunk, and hood. It is important to clean and dry these areas thoroughly to prevent dripping onto clean surfaces. • Avoid Direct Sunlight: Water evaporates quickly in direct sunlight which can result in watermarks. Is your Ferrari in need of a thorough and professional cleaning? Feel free to reach out to one of the MAG’s four service centers to schedule a complete detailing service. PROTECTIVE FILM Stones, road debris, chemical stains, and UV damage are all potential dangers when exposing your prized Ferrari to the road and the elements. But owners can save themselves from headaches and costly refinishing bills simply by installing protective film over their immaculate finish. This nearly invisible film can be applied just to the most vulnerable surfaces or the entire vehicle depending on your needs and driving habits. Protect your Ferrari against road hazards and the harsh elements before it's too late. The Mattioli Automotive Group contracts several of the top protective film installers to perform the service in our facility and can guarantee timely turnaround and flawless results. To learn more about protective film options for your Ferrari, or to schedule an appointment please contact one of the MAG’s four service centers. CERAMIC COATING Ceramic Coating is another popular option for protecting paint and other vehicle finishes. When compared to protective film, it can be a more comprehensive and economical alternative. Ceramic coating is a special chemical compound that is applied to various vehicle finishes to form a permanent bond with the surface. The result is a 9H+ hard coating that repels water and offers protection from UV rays, chemicals, oxidation, and corrosion. It can be applied to paint for protection against light scratches, wheels to prevent the build-up of brake dust, and glass for increased visibility in wet weather. The MAG contracts several of the top ceramic coating specialists to perform the service in our facility and we can guarantee timely turnaround and flawless results. To learn more about ceramic coating, or to schedule an appointment please contact one of the MAG’s four service centers.

Keep your Ferrari ready for your next drive. SKID PLATES The most common dangers for Ferrari owners are steep driveways and parking curbs. Even with the optional lifter, which is available on newer models, there are still some obstacles that are too big to maneuver over unscathed. To add protection against marring the underside of the front bumper, many owners elect to install a skid plate. This sacrificial piece of durable plastic polymer is precision cut to fit precisely on to the underside of the front bumper. The result is a nearly invisible layer of protection against costly paint and autobody repairs. To learn more about skid plates for your Ferrari, or to schedule an appointment please contact one of the MAG’s four service centers. Each MAG location stocks an extensive inventory of skid plates for various models and can complete the installation in a matter of hours. BATTERY MAINTINENCE The phrase “if you don’t use it, you’ll lose it” has never been more accurate than with regards to automotive batteries. When a battery is in a discharged state for an extended period of time the lead sulfate crystals inside the battery begin to increase in size. The bigger the crystals get, the harder they are to dissolve which ultimately blocks the chemical reaction that allows the battery to charge, and eventually leads to battery failure. For this reason, Genuine Ferrari offers Battery Re-conditioners which are designed to maintain a battery’s charge and combat the growth of sulfate crystals. A Battery Re-conditioner should be utilized any time a vehicle is parked for long periods of time. This is especially vital for new vehicles which contain more electrical components that put a drain the battery. For specific questions regarding the use of the Ferrari Battery Re-conditioners or to order one for your vehicle, feel free to reach out to one of Mattioli Automotive Group’s four service centers. "STICKY INTERIOR TRIM" Over time, environmental factors and harsh chemicals can take a toll on the interior components of a mature Ferrari resulting in sticky buttons, controls, and trim pieces. The only remedies to this condition are to replace the deteriorated components or have them re-finished. Either way, the process is very involved. Thankfully, the Mattioli Automotive Group’s service centers are very experienced with this issue and can help advise owners of their options when restoring their interior to like-new condition. If your Ferrari is in need of interior trim restoration, we invite you to reach out to one of MAG’s four service centers to learn more or schedule a service appointment.

Mattioli Automotive Group’s service centers are happy to help with any inquiries about these and other services offered to help protect and maintain your Ferrari. NSX CORRAL DAY at Supercar Sunday Story by: Dee D’Orazio with Photos by Ted Lighthizer

Miraculously, the 3rd Annual NSX CORRAL DAY at Supercar Sunday took place at Pierce College as scheduled but only after barely dodging the threat of an early morning rain shower. I’d like to imagine that Aryton Senna, looking down, had something to do with that! Come to think of it, he’d probably relish the idea of rain since he liked racing in it! Nevertheless, by 7am there were several eager NSX owners already positioning their

polished, prized possessions into the exclusive cordoned-off, NSX corral. Mario C. jockeyed his 800 hp, raceprepped 2017 Curva Red Gen II adjacent from Anthony V’s highly modified 2001 Silver Gen I with the outrageous rear spoiler!! Then, Jack & Yolanda A. cruised in from Tehachapi (some 103 miles away) in their brand new 2019 Thermal Orange Gen II acquisition. Whilst Ken Cheung showed off those “dihedral doors” on his 1992 Gen I, Avi Novel (a new father, congrats!) arrived

fashionably late in his Red & White wrapped “powered by Honda” 1993 Gen I (originally Spa yellow) with his wife! All the owners seemed proud to display their fine examples of Japan’s 1St Super car. And, to say there was a good cross section of all years & colors representing the marque would be apropos! In fact, I counted 25 Gen I’s (1991-2005) and 6 Gen II’s (2017-19). After a leisurely 3 hours of kibitzing and telling tall tales

of track days and sharing upgrade modifications, we headed off to the Malibu Hills on our customary somewhat spirited-drive led by Greg W. The view at the top of the Topanga Lookout is a great place to relax and take pictures if you ever get a chance. But we still had the last leg of our NSX Sunday to complete. Cruising down from those majestic hills, we finally arrived at our final destination – Lavaggio - the Art of Auto Detailing!

Once there, we were greeted with an elaborate buffet spread of fruit, cheese, various wraps & drinks. As a side note, Desmond W. who came up from San Diego attended the Show, the Drive and then drove his 1993 Formula Red Gen I directly into the Lavaggio facility for a complete detail job while he relaxed over a delicious brunch. With much appreciation, the Brunch was provided by Acura Honda Motors in Torrance c/o Jon Rivers & Matt Sloustcher. All of the attendees had an, wait for it, NSXceedingly terrific time! Supercar Sunday was the inspiration of Dustin Troyan some 15 years ago and continues to flourish with great partnerships and a passionate car community. And The Hits Just Keep Coming….. The modernization of the automobile has brought great pleasure in using a car as a mode of transportation. Many creature comforts have made the automobile the first chosen mode of travel. Improved ride, heating and air conditioning were great advancements, but the most appreciated achievement was the car radio! The Galvin Manufacturing Company (today known as Motorola) introduced a commercial car radio in the 1920’s. They weren’t inexpensive, about $130.00 back then, but they sold like hot cakes. 1952 saw the FM radio birth, but AM kept the high profile with top 40 stations like 93 KHJ and “Hit Radio 11, KRLA”! FM made its break thru with album rock in the 1970’s, and then surpassed AM radio in popularity.

1953 saw the creation of the “Search Function”. This was the beginning of the “luxury” options in automobiles. You could press a button on the radio or on the floor by the dimmer switch, and the radio would advance to the next station. To boost the popularity of car radios the aftermarket and the manufactures introduced 8 track and cassette players. The 1980’s saw the demise of tape players, and the introduction of the CD player by Sony. Today the radio is in competition with downloaded music and internet information. The radio can entertain with music, educate on PBS stations, and inform us on traffic and news, all in the comfort of our automobile. What’s next, televisions when we have driverless cars? The future’s so bright, we gotta wear shades!

Bruce Meyer’s All-American Cruise-In The Peterson Automotive Museum Hosts in Celebration of Ford v Ferrari Article & Photography by: Steve Geldman @ImagePhotoMotorsports

On January 26th, the famous Peterson Automotive Museum in Los Angeles hosted the spectacular Bruce Meyer’s All-American Cruise-In. The morning event included free Cruise-In access for spectators, complimentary coffee and bagels, and attending a Panel discussion with a group of legendary automotive aficionados. A massive turnout of

Shelby Cobras, Mustangs and other vintage as well as late model Americana, were laid-out on the 3rd level outdoor parking area. The Shelby themed occasion naturally focused on the hit movie, Ford v Ferrari, which was nominated by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for Best Picture, Best Film Editing, Best Sound Editing

and Best Sound Mixing. Despite being critically acclaimed as one of the best ever racing films, the movie missed winning Best Picture but successfully snagged two Oscars, one for Best Film Editing and another for Best Sound Editing. Automotive collector Billy Stabile, from Hollywood Movie Company, was the builder and supplier

for many automobiles used in Ford v Ferrari and brought in his1966 #1 GT40 ‘Miles Hero Car’. Two other Ford v Ferrari movie vehicles from Stabile’s collection were recently sold to fellow collectors and also made an appearance. One of those, now owned by Randall Richardson, was his 1964 Penske Chevrolet Corvette Stingray track car. Lastly, new owner Steve Woods exhibited his 1964 Porsche 906 movie car. It was very cool to see these vehicles up-close and personal as well as having Stabile, Richardson and Woods present to answer nonstop spectator questions. Two vehicles also drawing attention and worth mentioning were a 1999 Shelby Series 1 and a 1966 Shelby G.T. 350H. Automotive collector Sandy Bettelman motored in with his mint condition Shelby Series 1 from Shelby American. Many are unaware of this model's existence as only 249 were ever produced. It’s the first and only vehicle that Carroll Shelby made from the ground-up in his Las Vegas facility. It’s powered by a modified Oldsmobile Aurora 4L V8, naturally aspirated, having a DOHC and 4 valves per cylinder. Rated at 320 HP and 290 ft. lb. of torque at 5k RPM, in 4.4 seconds it reached 60 mph with a top speed 185 mph. Not too impressive against

today’s high performance standards, but in 1999 is was rated the fastest production car in the world. How was a car with only moderate horsepower able to achieve high performance speed? The body is 100% carbon fiber and built onto an aluminum chassis. The Series 1 total weight is less than 2,700 lbs. and has a perfect 50:50 front-to-rear weight ratio. Shelby Legendary Cars brought in a 1966 Shelby G.T. 350H. Folks, some interesting history on this model as it was perhaps the fastest automobile ever available from a U.S. based car rental agency. In 1965, the General Manager of Shelby American, Peyton Cramer, and the Hertz Corporation came to a brilliant business agreement: They would offer the 1966 G.T. 350H as a rental car through the then-famous Hertz “Rent-a-Racer” Program. This deal created 1,000 Shelby Mustang G.T. 350H's for use in the Hertz rental fleet. If you haven’t already figured it out, the ‘H’ in 350H is for Hertz. Members of the Hertz Sports Car Club who were 25 years of age or older would simply pay $17 per day and 17 cents per mile and get to drive away from the Hertz lot in a performance 306 horsepower Mus-

tang fastback. It is rumored about 85 G.T. 350H’s were available with four-speed manual transmissions. Sorry, don’t expect to ever see a ma-

jor American car rental agency to offer something like this again in your lifetime! The Panel Discussion was mod-

erated by the great Bruce Meyer, Peterson Founding Chairman. The Panel featured Shelby American VIPs who discussed Ford v Ferrari

portrayal of the real-life events leading up to the team’s unprecedented victory at Le Mans. Pictured in this article, from left to right, is Bruce Meyer, Allen Grant, Shelby race driver, Lenny Shabes, film producer, Peter Brock, Shelby auto designer,

Charles Agapiou, Shelby crew chief, Peter Miles, son of late Shelby racing driver Ken Miles, Aaron Shelby, grandson of late Carroll Shelby, and A.J. Baime, book author of ‘Go Like Hell: Ford, Ferrari, and Their Battle for Speed and Glory at Le Mans’

which inspired the production of the film. As Meyer moderated, each VIP addressed a huge audience of automotive enthusiasts with interesting stories, many rather humorous. The Peterson Automotive Muse-

um hosts a themed cruise-in event the last Sunday of every month. To see what is coming up next, visit their website at: www.petersen.org/ events

The Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Roadster

"The Aventador SVJ Roadster inherits all the power, performance and ground breaking aerodynamic technologies of the coupé, but with its own iconic presence and prowess," says Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Automobili Lamborghini, Stefano Domenicali. "It is as fundamentally exciting to drive as the Aventador SVJ but with an added exclusivity: the option of the open air. With the same extraordinary performance roof on or off, the Aventador SVJ Roadster incorporates the dynamism of the coupé with the

unique spirit of a Lamborghini roadster." The SVJ Roadster sports the 'Super Veloce' for superfast and 'Jota' suffixes, signifying the car's performance and track prowess: its coupé stablemate took the Nürburgring-Nordschleife production car record lap-time and the roadster is no less a futuristic, driver's car. Benchmark performance comes from the most powerful series production V12-engined car produced to date by Lamborghini, outputting 770 hp (566 kW) at maximum 8,500 rpm.

The SVJ Roadster delivers 720 Nm of torque at 6,750 rpm, with a weight-to-power ratio of 2.05 kg/hp. The SVJ accelerates from standing to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and from 0 to 200 km/h in 8.8 seconds. A top speed of more than 350 km/h is complemented by a braking distance of 100 km/h to 0 in 31 meters. The roadster roof, constructed from high pressure RTM carbon fiber, is removable via quick-release levers in the cabin, and securely stored under the front hood. Weighing less than 6 kg each part, the road-

ster adds only 50 kg to the SVJ coupé's weight of 1,525 kg. Just 800 units will be produced of the Aventador SVJ Roadster. The car shown in Geneva in the new matt color bronzo zenas (bronze) features a special Ad Personam livery in bianco phanes (white). The livery emphasizes the sharp lines of the front and rear bumpers and further enriches the specifically redesigned engine bonnet. For more information: www.lamborghinila.com

What Will The House of the Future Offer With the increasing cost of housing and the modern technology amenities expected by today’s buyers, houses of the future are expected to incorporate practical architecture, ‘Smart’ design and space efficiency.

cial, biomorphic wall skins (shapes inspired by forms found in nature) will change color depending on the weather - dark for cooling in summer and clear on dull days to maximize light.

Is Big Really Better?

Even Smarter Appliances

Increasing prices and an extreme shortage in housing underscore the need to live in smaller spaces, including modular and portable housing designs. The trend in designs of mobile houses and converted freight cars will require adaptability in a clever, practical and even luxurious way.

Appliances of the future will capitalize upon existing technologies. Built-in kitchen coffee hubs will allow you to pour a cup of your favorite brew from anywhere in your home via a smartphone app. You may already be familiar with induction hobs - stove tops that generate heat directly through the pan base to assure no energy is wasted and only ignite when the correct pan is placed on the burner, assuring maximum safety. However, there will be no need to worry when too tired to cook—robots have already been developed that will prepare dinner while you are still at the office and greet you with your favorite beverage as you walk in the door.

Ecological Housing Design Wafer thin solar-paneled roofing with rainwater channels are expected to replace the cumbersome solar panels now in use; and solar roofing advancements developed by Elon Musk have resulted in a strong and attractive solar roof tile made of glass that looks like a normal roof. According to First Street Finan-

Tech-Free Lifestyle Backlash Due to the need for a break from the increasingly fast-paced technological world we live in, the ‘tech-free living room’ concept is growing in popularity with builders and designers. (Of course you still may want that robot to pop in every now and then to deliver your beverages.) Another trend will be garages designed to convert into outdoor living rooms to expand family space. Digital Wallpaper! First Street Financial reports, “Redecorating your home will become a touch of a button with internal walls featuring digital wallpaper.” Decor can be changed whenever desired by uploading scenes from your smartphone, and advanced 3D technology will be able to turn walls into a giant cinema! Changes can be challenging, but they can also be exciting. The future is here, so hold on for the ride!
