Welcome

As we begin a new academic year at Somerfords’ Walter Powell we welcome Oliver, Max B, Freddy, Logan, Max M and Lottie into our Reception class. We also welcome Leah into Year 2 and Lucas into Year 6. They are already settling in very well and we hope they will be very happy with us.
As we continue to adapt to the ‘new normal’ way of school life, we are delighted to inform you that all children are now back at school and learning in their new year groups.
During Term 6 the school work was focusing on the 7 Continents and we all enjoyed traveling around the world together (albeit virtually!). We also said goodbye to our Year 6 children and managed to make their last weeks in school memorable, if a little different. They all enjoyed their picnic in the Jubilee Gardens and their mini party when they posed for the socially distancing ‘Cheers’ photo and even did the conga around the school field!
Thank you so much to all of the parents for your continued support and hard work during this period of home learning.

Walter Powell Pre-school
It was lovely to welcome so many Pre-school children back during the Summer Term and we enjoyed many activities outside and all the children seem to have thrived being back with their friends again.
Pre-School Leavers
At the end of the summer term we said our farewells to Max B, Max M, Peter, Joshua, Oliver, Freddy and Logan. They were all presented with a pencil case and a leavers card as we wish them all well in their primary schools.
Welcome
We welcomed Larissa, Roman and Felix to Preschool this term. They are already settling in very well and enjoying all the new activities and toys.
We are delighted to announce that our Preschool will be open 08.45 –15.00 Monday to Friday. We accept children from the age of 2 years. If you are interested please contact the Pre-school on 07931 263909 or alternatively contact the school office on 01249 720797 or admin.swp@dbat.org.uk for more information and an application form.
Somerfords' Home and School Association (SHASA)
After an unprecedented few months, Somerfords' Home and School Association (SHASA) has been working hard on fundraising ideas to support Walter Powell School and Pre-school when the children return in September.
We are planning to run our ever-popular Harvest Cafe in the Jubilee Gardens on September 13 from 10 am - 12 noon. Social distancing will be in place and for the first time this year we will accept contactless payments (or exact change). Cotswold Coffee Roasters will be providing their delicious coffee and hot chocolate and everyone is welcome to bring picnic blankets and soak up the atmosphere. As ever, we would be very grateful for any donations of fruit, vegetables, flowers, jams etc. If you can help, please leave donations at 57 Great Somerford (off Seagry Road by the allotments) from August 10.
Village children and their families have been busy on their bikes, scooters and on foot over the summer holidays doing the ‘6 Weeks of Somer Challenge’ - completing 5K, 10K or in some cases, marathon distances. We would like to thank everyone who took part or sponsored family and friends. It is very much appreciated by everyone at SHASA, Walter Powell School and Pre-school.
We hope everyone is staying safe and we look forward to seeing you all over the next school year. Angela Parr 07946 015547
