Is adrenal fatigue real

IS ADRENAL FATIGUE REAL? Is adrenal fatigue real? I’ve heard that question from a number of friends and colleagues over the past few days. The premise is simple – the symptoms are so common and so like other commonly diagnosed conditions, there is doubt around the concept of adrenal fatigue as a standalone condition. Yes, it is true that some conventional medical doctors will diagnosis fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, generalized anxiety, etc. routinely. That said, in many of these cases adrenal fatigue is often over looked and under diagnosed. Personally, I believe that it is easy to underestimate the importance of the adrenal glands in our daily lives. Very few people are taught to respect and provide support for the adrenal glands. As such, their importance is diminished and in some cases, wholly ignored. It is easy for someone to say that they have chronic fatigue or some other conventional diagnosis. It is hard, very hard, to take a step back and assess lifestyle choices that are very likely contributing to chronic adrenal fatigue. To help “doubters” make the mental connection, what follows is a brief summary of the important functions your adrenal glands accomplish in your daily life.

Word cloud for Adrenal fatigue Your adrenal glands, as part of the endocrine system, are responsible for the flight or fight response of the sympathetic nervous system. As part of this process, the adrenal glands are involved in the secretion of epinephrine (adrenalin) and nor epinephrine (noradrenalin). In addition, your adrenal glands are involved in the areas of tissue repair, sex hormone production, and body rebuilding via the production of DHEA, pregnenolone, progesterone, estrogen, and testosterone. Further, your adrenal glands support blood sugar regulation, immune response and anti-inflammatory reactions via the hormones cortisol and glucocorticoids. Finally, your adrenal glands are involved in hormone production that regulates sodium potassium and overall body fluid volume – aldosterone and mineral corticoids. As you can see, your adrenal glands play vital roles in major bodily functions. In the last post I encouraged you to seek proper professional medical diagnosis for unexplained symptoms. In this post, I challenge you to think about all of the critical hormonal functions in your body that are dependent upon proper adrenal gland function. Do not doubt or dismiss the importance of your adrenal glands. Until next time, to your continued excellent health.
