Yoga and Adrenal Fatigue I have been practicing yoga off and on for thirteen years. I’ve turned to it again. Because I’ve been focusing on my adrenal fatigue condition recently and studying what I can about it, I’ve had another ahha moment. I’ve realized that during the times when I practice yoga regularly, I am in the better health. I feel better, look better, eat better, and act better. This is most likely because yoga relieves stress. Yoga requires and gives the practice a mind-body connection that enables one to feel relaxed and at peace. The beauty of yoga is that that relaxation and peace don’t end with a yoga session: they carry on throughout the day. So how does yoga help someone with adrenal fatigue? I think it’s because, as I said, yoga allows you to release stress, so it lowers cortical (stress hormone) levels in your blood. Adrenal fatigue causes a person to crave sweets and other foods high in carbohydrates. Because yoga relieves stress, it reduces the effects of the exhausted adrenal glands, so it makes you stop craving carbohydrates. Other hormonal issues come into play with the condition, and because yoga helps improve the condition, it probably also results in the other symptoms to be improved as well. When I’ve done yoga in the past, I have craved healthy foods (which mean I am able to listen to my body’s needs, not the wants of my adrenal fatigue). I’ve also had the better skin tone and a better libido. This could be because of the improved function of the adrenals or because of the better diet.
I’ve done yoga for the past three days, and I’m already feeling a little better. I’m able to fall asleep at a normal hour these days and get up in the morning without feeling groggy. I look forward to reaping the benefits of yoga, as it improves my adrenal fatigue, and as my healing adrenals allow me to deepen my yoga practice.
