James and Aleisha Pisaturo were crowned Clermont Cattleman’s Challenge 2022 King and Queen.

CLERMONT SHOW

CONGRATULATIONS TO Aleisha and James Pisaturo, Almafi Droughtmasters, Inga Downs, on their success at the 2022 Clermont Show.

Their pen of 5 DroughtmasterCharolais cross steers won this year’s Clermont Cattlemen’s Challenge and James and Aleisha were crowned Cattle King and Queen.

The 12 month competition entails 5 steers being entered at the previous year’s Clermont Show where they are judged as a pen of 5. All competition cattle were sent to a paddock generously donated by Bart and Tegan Wilkinson at Walton Downs, Clermont, where they spent 250 days before being trucked to Paringa Feedlot to be fed on grain for 100 days. Placings were then given for both grass and grain fed weight gains and competition points for overall weight gain. Competitors then selected one steer to be judged as a carcass and three to be judged at this year’s show as a pen of three steers most suitable for the 100 day grain fed market. The final hurdle is the taste test which is assessed by 5 judges. “It’s a tough competition with some of the biggest and best operators in the district vying for the title,” said Aleisha. “The mother of the carcass steer is by an Almafi Droughtmaster bull, so I was really proud of the results.”

Image & Story Kent B Ward

Glenlands D Bells N Whistles and calf after taking out the Supreme Interbreed Female award at the Rockhampton Show with Darren and Tayla Childs, Glenlands D Stud, Theodore and one of the three Interbreed Judges, Lawson Cam, Cambil Stud, Proserpine. IN ONLY her third appearance in the show ring, Glenlands D Bells N Whistles took out the Interbreed Female Championship at the recent Rockhampton Show. Like many of her compatriots the three-year-old was not shown as a junior due to the cancellation of many of the regional, Feature and Royal Shows as a result of Covid-19.

Nursing an impressive heifer calf, Bells N Whistles took out the Grand Champion in the All Other Breeds category and then contested the Interbreed awards.

Under judges Brett McCamley, Fern Hills, Bajool; Lawson Cam, Cambil Stud, Proserpine and Kent Ward, Rockhampton, Bells N Whistles secured her Interbreed title against the Brahman female, Raglan Miss Brooke and the Miniature/Compact Breed winner. It was a great two day outing for the Glenlands D prefix and the Droughtmaster breed with a trio involving Bells N Whistles, Danzer Zone and Drummer Boy taking out the Interbreed Breeders Group against the two other groups of contenders. In the run up to the Interbreed competition and under judge, Brett McCamley, Fern Hills, Bajool, the Glenlands D prefix took home Grand and Senior Champion Female with Bells ‘N’ Whistles, Junior Champion Bull (Danger Zone), the Reserve Calf Champion Male (Drummer Boy) and the Breeders Group in the ‘All Other Breeds Ring’.

COMMERCIAL CATTLE:

ALSO OUTSTANDING results in the Commercial Cattle Section with John Atkinson, Atkinson & Co, Glenavon, winning the Champion Pen, Grand Champion Single Steer and Grand Champion Exhibit, and Cliff Mylrea, Needmor, with Reserve Champion Exhibit and Champion Grass Fed Heifer.
