Free and Easy Calming Nervous System Exercise

Help calm vagal nerve signaling by gently touching and holding these 9 accupressure points. Press each point and hold for up to a minute.

At any time, if you feel dizziness, pain, or any kind of discomfort, stop the exercise. It's okay to stop at any time.

When you try again, you may consider starting with less pressure or holding the point for a lesser amount of time. Do what feels good for you!

You can also do these off body. There's still electrical signaling that will go between your fingers and the pressure point. Do what feels good for you. Some people like a little more pressure, too.

POINT 1

Find point 1 on the crown of your head. It's the very center, like the top of a headband. This is a sensitive point. You don't have to press it. Just barely touch it. Take a deep breath in and release it slowly. Hold your hand very gently on the point.

POINT 2

Find point 2 in between your eyebrows. You can press this point with your fingers, or lean forward and rest your elbows on a surface in front of you. Use a very light touch or go off body if you feel any discomfort. Remember to take deep breaths.

POINT 3

TOO TRENDY!

Find point 3 at your inner eye brow. You can do these points together or separate. Do what feels good for you. If you have sinus issues, you may need to breathe through your mouth or go off body. Simply hover your fingers above the point if they feel too sensitive.

POINT 5

POINT 4

Find point 4 on the sides of your nose. It is between where your cheeks start, just below the bone for your eye socket. It's almost directly below point 3. Remember to take a deep breath and exhale slowly.

Find point 5 directly under your pupils on your cheek bones. You may find it easiest to slide your fingers out from the previous point. It doesn't have to be perfectly centered. Find the point(s) that feel good for you and relax into it.

POINT 6

Find point 6 under the bottom of your nose, above your top lip. Close your eyes if you feel comfortable. If needed, keep your eyes open. If you feel dizzy, you may need to start smaller. It's okay to stop here or during any of the previous points.

POINT 7

Find point 7 where the bones for your thumb and index finger come together. This is one of the most tender points so go off body and hover above if you need to.

POINT 8

Find point 8 on your breast bone near your fourth rib. You may want to try counting down from the top at your collarbone. Take a deep breath and ease into it.

POINT 9

Return to the crown of your head. Some people like to hold points 8 and 9 at the same time to finish. Hold it for as long as it feels good.
