Detoxification Phases
Phase 6: Proper Elimination
Daily bowel movements and healthy urinary habits are the final step in removing toxins from the body and are fundamental for good health. Effective waste elimination resulting in multiple daily bowel movements can shift a sluggish system toward balance and harmony.
Phase 5: Add a Gut Binder
One of the significant issues when trying to eliminate toxins is their tendency for recirculation, which is linked to slow intestinal emptying, hormone imbalances, and constipation. Adding a binder helps ensure toxins do not re-enter your body’s circulation. Binders are nutraceuticals that bind or adhere to toxins to facilitate removal from the body and are a vital step in every detoxification program.

Phase 4: Flushing the Gallbladder
The gallbladder is a digestive organ that stores bile produced in the liver until it is needed to break down fats and shuttle excreted toxins into the intestinal tract for elimination. Gallbladder function and adequate bile production are essential for effective detoxification. Dr. Conners recommends performing a mild gallbladder flush regularly.

Phase 3: Support Bile Excretion from the Liver
Toxins enter the body through absorption through the gut, skin, or lungs and circulate through the bloodstream. They travel through the liver, combine with bile, and make their way into the gut. Keeping the common bile duct clear and free from build-up with bitter herbs and phosphatidylcholine helps keep the toxins flowing down and out of the body.
Phase 2: Conjugation

Phase 2 enzymes in the liver are regulated by a transcription factor called Nrf2. When Nrf2 is activated, it “turns on” the genes associated with Phase 2 detoxification and manages enzymes like sulfur transferase that convert toxins into water-soluble, less reactive substances. You can support optimal Phase 2 detox by eating organic sulfur-rich foods and running a genetics lab panel to hone your specific nutritional needs for promoting liver function.
Phase 1: The P450s
Numerous enzymes and processes are involved in Phase 1 detox, but the 58 known cytochrome P450 enzymes are the most important. Their primary function is toxin metabolism and conversion to substances that can be processed for elimination. Supporting Phase 1 detox primes the detoxification pump and promotes effective toxin elimination.

Phase 0: Pulling Garbage Out of the Cells and Intracellular Space
It is critical to have the six previous phases working well before provoking stored toxins. If these steps are not taken, your body will redistribute toxins around your body. Adding a chelator (click here for chelator suggestions) helps clean up the bloodstream and extracellular matrix. Avoid using strong chelators if you have amalgam fillings or metal dental implants.
