The science behind PNOĒ
Breath analysis measures three fundamental signals: oxygen concentration, carbon dioxide concentration, and flow volume. By collectively analyzing them combined with power output and heart rate variability, we are able to compute 23 biomarkers that paint the picture of some of the most critical systems in human biology.

After decades of longitudinal studies, the American Heart Association, in its 2016 scientific statement, highlighted breath analysis as one of the most essential biometric assessments of one ’ s annual medical and one of the best predictors for longevity, morbidity, and mortality. Until recently, it had seen little adoption despite its value due to the complexity of existing solutions. Unraveling breath analysis
The Basic Principle
At a fundamental level, breath analysis measures three variables: oxygen concentration, carbon dioxide concentration, and flow volume using three distinct sensors. These waveforms above are examples of how the raw data from the three sensors actually look. As one exhales, volume flow spikes upwards, and as air from deeper into the lungs is analyzed, O2 concentration drops and CO2 concentration increases The deeper within the lungs the air comes from, the lower the O2 concentration and the higher the CO2 concentration as it has been given more time to interact with the lungs and for O2-CO2 exchange to occur with the lungs’ surface. Conversely, as one inhales, volume flow spikes downwards, and as ambient air is analyzed, O2 and CO2 concentrations revert back to the atmospheric values of “20.9%” and “0.03%” respectively.
