SUMMER 2020 “Keep cool when the heat is on” self-care and mindfulness strategies for you and your pupils The aim of this course ‘keep cool when the heat is on’ is to enable teachers to develop and share activities, approaches and learning modes that foster a cooperative settled classroom.
The format will be: • Gaining knowledge and understanding about the importance of social emotional learning (SEL) and how to incorporate these skills into the daily curriculum • Learning about the basis for a ‘trauma informed’ classroom- managing challenging behaviour • Generating materials and sharing ideas in small breakout groups • Creating a physical portfolio and materials for activities; we will use card, colours, paint glue etcaccording to the activity. • Creating a digital record of the article and ideas • Exploring multi-media approaches to SEL
We will be sharing knowledge and experience and developing a portfolio of skills and activities to use in class in September. There will be video presentations, articles to read and discussions in breakout groups. I will make every effort to maintain the supportive, interactive group that has made this course so successful in the past four years. It will be interactive and enjoyable!

SUMMER 2020 Restorative Practices Skills for Positive Classroom and School Norms Restorative Practices (RP) are both a philosophy and a set of skills that have the core aim of building strong relationships and transforming conflict in a simple and emotionally healthy manner. This Course Will: • • • • •
Provide participants with knowledge and understanding of the use of RP in schools; Skill participants to use RP to support their teaching practice; Skill participants to use RP to support their work and life outside the classroom; Inspire and enable participants to use restorative skills in their work and life; and Explore the potential of a Restorative approach for creating and maintaining a positive relational environment in the classroom and school as a whole.

The overall aim of this course is to support the teaching of water safety as part of the Strand Myself, Strand Unit Safety and Protection (Personal Safety) in the SPHE programme. It aims to increase teachers’ knowledge and awareness of water safety at sea, on inland waterways, on the farm, in swimming pools and at home, through the use of factual information and local evidence of water safety incidents. Teachers will explore lesson content exemplars and teaching methodologies and provide a variety of resources suitable for teaching and discussing water safety. Learn how water safety lessons can be evaluated and assessed and how it may be situated within the context of the school self-evaluation process. The course will also enable teachers to enhance their awareness of their own safety when in, on and near water.
