TITLE OF PROPOSED CHANGE: Entertainment Effect DESCRIPTION: The Entertainment Effect Caption will consist of a total of 20 points. Points will be awarded to a corps based on the art of communication with the audience. The effect captions’ combined total points still represent 40% of a corps score and that will remain the same as it has been but the number allocation would be changed to: MUSIC EFFECT 10.0 VISUAL EFFECT 10.0 ENTERTAINMENT EFFECT 20.0 PURPOSE: (Why make this change-what are the benefits?) An Entertainment Effect caption will recognize a corps ability to communicate with the audience. By setting up this specific caption this proposal gives more than lip service to the relevance of our audience by actually designating an adjudicator(s), sheet (s) and assigning numbers that give an importance to the competitive outcome. It rewards groups that communicate entertainment values to the audience. EDUCATIONAL IMPACT: (How does this benefit the students educationally?) This change will expand the appreciation of the art of communication with the audience and make the corps members understand the value of performance. CREATIVE IMPACT: (How does this affect the creative aspects of the activity? How does this affect designers/instructors?) By assigning numbers this makes the design team take into account the importance of audience communication. FISCAL IMPACT: (How does this financially affect individual corps and the DCI organization?) This proposal will have a financial effect by making the activity potentially more accessible to a larger mass-market audience. Additional benefits include increased merchandise sales, escalation of public awareness and overall potential growth for the activity. AUDIENCE IMPACT: (How will this affect our audience and their perceptions of the activity?) Having the audience invested in our product can only strengthen every facet of this activity. Entertainment Effect will recognize both their contribution and support. SHOW PROMOTER IMPACT: (How will this affect the show promoters-financially and logistically as it relates to contest production?) It could impact the amount of judges assigned to their show. LOGISTICS IMPACT: (How will this impact the operations of the individual drum corps and the DCI organization?) Changes would need to be made to existing sheets to reflect this new caption and the creation of a new judges sheet for Entertainment Effect. There would also be a redistribution of numbers for the Music Effect and Visual Effect caption. JUDGING IMPACT: (How does this impact the adjudication process and individual judge?) By adding this sheet it could have ramifications to the total amount of adjudicators needed to evaluate a contest. Representing:
