Facelift Surgery in Boston, MA A facelift can improve the most visible signs of aging by lifting sagging, wrinkled, sun damaged skin, redraping the face with a fresher, younger look. A facelift will help redefine the original bone structure of your face that can be lost over time as a result of the aging process. This surgery rejuvenates the aging face, especially in the cheek and jowl areas, as well as redefines the neck and jaw line where excess skin and fat can settle over time. This type of surgery is often referred to as a lower facelift. A full facelift often includes other procedures that are performed in conjunction with the facelift, such as eyelid surgery, forehead lift, or aesthetic chin surgery. While a facelift can’t stop the aging process, in many cases it can turn back the clock.

A facelift is a very individualized procedure, that can be performed alone, or with other cosmetic procedures such as eyelid or forehead surgery, or nose reshaping surgery. Depending on the area to be treated, facelifts usually involve small incisions made along the hairline, which extend around the ears to the lower scalp. The skin is lifted away from the fat and muscle underneath, and excess fat and skin are removed. The remaining muscle and membrane are tightened, and the skin is then replaced and secured with sutures or clips. Facelift recovery is dependent on the individual, but most patients are back to work within 2 weeks. More strenuous activity is limited for 4-6 weeks. Bruising can last from 2-3 weeks and sun exposure should be limited. Because a facelift is such a customized procedure, the surgeon must evaluate many variables such as bone structure, skin elasticity, the effects of aging and other factors. We encourage you to come in for a personalized consultation with our Plastic Surgeon to define your needs and help you to optimize your ideal look. Back to Facial Procedures
