Thanks for the Memories

We do hope that many people enjoyed our Easingwold Singers Anniversary Concert, held on Saturday, 20th May, and will join us on the afternoon of Saturday 2nd December 2023. This will be something that little bit special as our Christmas concerts always seem to be. More details will follow in the next publication and thanks to everybody who so kindly support our Choir.

“The Mowbray Singers next concert takes place on Saturday 15th July at 7:30pm in St Oswald’s Church, Sowerby. The concert, “Songs of Thyme and Tide”, features a selection of well-known folk and traditional songs from England, Wales, and Hungary in arrangements by Vaughan Williams, Paul Simon, Mátyas Seiber, and the choir’s conductor, Trevor Wilson.

The choir’s special guest instrumental group, the acclaimed Byland Rigg Ceilidh Band, will add some scintillating traditional numbers to the first half of the program, and Elgar’s captivating six songs “From the Bavarian Highlands”, with piano duet accompaniment played by Helen Proudley and Evelyn Wilson, will be performed in the second part of the concert.”

Top tips for pets to have a cool summer

Following the extreme heatwaves in summer 2022, Blue Cross is advising pet owners to keep pets indoors and let them ‘flop’. Even walking early in the morning or late in the evening will be too hot as temperature’s last year remained over 30C.

Consider investing in cooling mats and fans to keep them cool, placing a bottle of frozen water in front of the fan will help the spread of cooler air. Alternatively, wrap a bottle of frozen water in your pets blanket to keep them cool and make ice cubes containing their favourite treats. Place a cool (not cold) wet towel over dogs to cool them down.

When the weather is warm – not scorching, it is a good idea to avoid walking your dog in the middle of the day. Take them out in the early morning or late evening to avoid them overheating. Also monitor their playtime in the summer heat, dogs might not realise they are overdoing it when they are having a good time!

Pets may like to sunbathe but those with pale ears and noses are prone to developing skin cancer if they spend too long in the sun. Make sure there is plenty of shade if the like spending time in the garden or try a pet friendly sunblock..

Always have plenty of fresh, clean and cool water available for your pet and if taking your dog on a long journey or on holiday make sure they have regular water and regular toilet and fresh air stops.

Sadly, despite warnings by animal welfare charities every year dogs are still left in cars on warm days. Even with windows rolled down, cars effectively act like ovens and within minutes dogs overheat to fatal levels.

New Mindful Photography GroupStarts September in Easingwold

“Remove that judgement and tell your story through your image,“

Is it a good photograph? Does it really matter ?

Rebecca from Mindful Photography explains: ‘‘Over 14 years ago I started my own method of facilitating photography workshops - one which was accessible and had the participants at the centre of it. Move to this year and I am still sharing the process with so many like-minded people, helping them to support their own wellbeing through this simple and low cost process.

I have worked with dozens of participants who want to slow down and take notice, who would like to see how photography can support their wellbeing, so much so, they tell me they use this method in their everyday lives.

Mindful Photography is part of a process called therapeutic photography and you can find out more here www.mindful photography.org.uk

This September, I am delivering sessions in Easingwold on Saturday mornings from 10-11am, with the cost of living in mind, participants can attend for a small optional donation. Numbers will be very limited so that you can have plenty 1:1 time, all you need is something to take an image on; a camera, smartphone or tablet.
