DIRECTOR’S NOTE When I first selected Godspell as the Theatre Director at Catholic Central High School back in 2015, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I had a small cast, small space, and needed to provide a spark after two middling shows Turns out, it was the show produced the most times in CCHS’s history and had a loyal community following. Everyone came out of the woodwork for that show. I learned an incredible amount and it was the first time I really felt myself coming into my own as a director. Fast forward to today and the 2020-2021 school year. In a year marred by distance from friends and family and ramped up political divisions further complicating our theatre season, Godspell seemed like the perfect fit. The music is great, the “story” is timeless, and the potential for connection with the audience make this a show a prescient choice for this moment. Very accidentally, this is the 50th year of Godspell and it feels wonderful to honor such a unique and moving show in the way we are, especially with our all-female cast. We follow the Berkshire Theater Group who made Godspell the first professional musical staged after the shutdown and my colleague, Abby Galstad, at Catholic Central who also mounted an outdoor production last month in the long legacy of bringing this story of building community to life. Thank you for joining us outdoors and embracing this unique and once-in-alifetime theatrical experience for our students. We look forward to building a beautiful city with you! Special shoutout to all of the families of our cast and crew who have supported DSHA’s theatre department throughout this difficult year. We appreciate you!
