She wants to thank the cast for making her last show amazing. Thanks to Mr. Z and Mrs. Marsala for the opportunities they’ve given her. Shout out Elayna, Caelinn, and Liz <3. DSHA theatre, you’ll be missed.
Antonis Ybarra | Cedric, Mr. Voldy
Antonis is so excited to be a part of Puffs! Getting to work with the cast and crew has been an absolute blessing! Although he is not sure if he'll do theater in college, thank you all for coming and making this an excellent final show!
PRODUCTION TEAM BIOS Zachary Ziegler | Director Zachary is in his second year at DSHA. He is celebrating his duodecade of teaching performing arts. He has taught band, choir, and theatre in public and private settings across Wisconsin, Alaska, and Colorado. Recent directing credits include Freaky Friday, Godspell: 2012 Revised Edition, It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Show, and CTW’s Disney’s Newsies. Zachary is thrilled to be at DSHA! Amanda Marsala | Scenic Designer and Technical Director Amanda has been at DSHA since 2006. Prior to working at DSHA, Amanda worked at The Skylight as a Scenic Carpenter and Deck Chief; at First Stage Children’s Theatre as a Scenic Carpenter; and at the Betty Brinn Children’s Museum as an Exhibit Technician. Here at DSHA, Amanda has the honor of creating over forty theatre productions with the students, parents, volunteers, and production teams. The energy and enthusiasm the students put into each production never ceases; your dedication keeps this department running! A few of Amanda’s favorite productions here at DSHA are Clue, Legally Blonde, Peter Pan, Into the Woods, Mary Poppins, and The Little Mermaid. Mike Van Dreser | Lighting Designer Mike is a 2004 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. He has done lighting design for many Next Act Theatre shows including, Big Boys, No Child…, I And You, and One Time. In spring 2019, Mike started his own production company called Stage Right Designs. His company mission statement is to bring professional technical support to all levels of theatre from elementary schools to professional theatre. In 2018, Mike was nominated for a Jerry Award for Lighting Design for Bye Bye Birdie and a Footlights Award for Lighting Design on Next To Normal, and in 2019 was again nominated for a Jerry for Little Shop, and two Footlight awards for Millie and Hedwig. Gwen Ter Haar | Costume Designer Gwen is excited to costume her fifth show at DSHA! Being a part of these shows is like being part of a big family, and she loves being part of that!! Gwen is a director for local area schools and community theaters. She also owns a voice studio and the Sprouts program! Cheers to a wonderful show full of absolutely wonderful humans! Brandon Gregory | Sound Designer Brandon is the owner/operator of BGREG Audio, LLC. He has been involved with hundreds of events since 2016, including club shows, large corporate productions, and high school theatrical performances and concerts.
DIRECTOR’S NOTE Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!! I just missed the Harry Potter craze. Although the first book came out when I was eleven, I must have been too busy playing baseball or finding something to…you know…read. My friends all loved it though. My first post-college roommate would read all seven books on a loop claiming to find more intricate details and connections each time. Eye roll. It wasn’t until I moved to Alaska that I even put on the audio books—four hours to the nearest grocery store sure helps with that. It was such a good story! I immediately regretted missing out on such a classic. Flash-forward to this summer as we struggled to find a play for this school year. I read over a dozen scripts that weren’t quite right when a colleague suggested I try Puffs. It took only a few pages before I was hooked! So many characters, such a fast pace, an opportunity to engage lots of students, plus MAGIC! It was a win-win. I, myself, am a reluctant “Puff.” Even though I wasn’t a part of the Harry Potter scene, I knew the desirable choice to be was a “Brave” (Gryffindor). I’d have even been fine with a “Smart” (Ravenclaw). But, alas, I was put with the “Puffs.” Directing this play has really helped me cope with my “Puffiness.” Deep down, I truly do value friendship, justice, hard work, and loyalty. Badgers are great, and I would definitely be stoked to be close to the kitchens. Fine! I’m a Puff! Sometimes, we have to bloom where we are planted. Our heroes discover that in this show. They discover the deep bond of friendship, of relying on others, and maybe…just maybe…love. Our show is inspired by M. C. Escher, Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In, and the 1990s. Paying homage to Puff’s start in improv theatre, our students may employ good British accents, bad British accents, or none at all. We strived to bring the feeling of an intimate black box theatre to our main stage. Thank you so much for coming, and I sincerely hope you enjoy this absolutely bonkers show! Zachary Ziegler Director of Theatre, Choir, & Liturgical Music
VOLUNTEER THANK YOU Thank you to the families of our cast and crew who have spent countless hours volunteering to help make this production possible. Your help and support is tremendously appreciated. We couldn’t do it without you! - Zach, Amanda, and the entire Production Team
