Hello! I’m Jonathan Borton, a street and documentary photographer. If I had to sum up my work, I would say that my goal is to rekindle a lost sense of awe about the world in those who view my work. In today’s visually-saturated world, it can feel like we’ve seen it all, like there is nothing that has not been photographed a million times before. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. There are a thousand empty locations that we choose not to observe as we go about our day, a thousand different sunrises that we don’t wake up for. Even among places that have been photographed in the past, there is always the potential to find new meaning in the apparently mundane or uninspiring environments we find ourselves in. I seek to find these places and experiences that we have ignored or forgotten and, through my photographs, to demonstrate that photography can still inspire a wonder about the world around us that we have all but lost.

Lego Ever since I was a kid I have enjoyed playing with, building, and collecting Legos. For some reason I was bullied for this interest in elementary school, and as I have grown older I, at times, tried to find reasons to justify my passion for this toy. For a while, this justification was photographing Legos; using these little plastic people to tell fun narratives was a great way to make my interest relatable to others. Even now, although I am not ashamed of my hobby, I find it fascinating to use story, color, and composition to create a photo that might make someone smile.
